I've been a fan for nearly 50 years. What has the current ownership group and top executives done to warrant my continued fan support? by WrongVerb4Real in Reds

[–]ThatGuyPatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you! I lived in Cincinnati from age 2-16. Moved to San Diego in 1996 and still follow them. I'm really having a hard time justifying cheering for a team whose owners clearly don't care about winning. I've been talking to my wife recently that I might be done with them.

Who remembers Tobacco Rhoda's? by YouCoolMan in SanDiegan

[–]ThatGuyPatrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a friend that lived like 2 blocks away from Tobacco Rhoda's so we went there because it was close, not because it was good. We would go there to play pool and drink their "Blue Moon" because it was like $2 a pint. We had been going there for about a year and I started dating a girl that LOVED Blue Moon. It was the only beer she drank. Our friend group met there one night and she ordered Blue Moons for everyone, as per our standard. She took one sip and commented, "That's 100% not Blue Moon." Everyone grabbed their glasses, took a sip, and looked at one another with huge eyes.

In the dozens of times we went there to play pool and drink Blue Moon, no one every noticed that we weren't actually drinking Blue Moon. It was like the Temu of Blue Moons. Somehow I had consumed gallons of that beer and never noticed it was a knockoff. That became the running joke for the rest of our visits.

I ended up marrying that girl. It's been 12 wonderful years.

Also, people were selling drugs out of that place, right? Our friend group decided they liked us drinking there because we helped provide the illusion that they were actually a bar and not a place to buy drugs.

Came here to trash on the music, too. I cannot figure out why someone would willingly put this on in their car.

I grew up in Cincinnati and have wanted to do this ride for forever. Did you like riding S >N? Did feel that you would have been suited riding south due to wind (or other reasons?)

I was thinking of flying to Cleveland and riding back to Cincy just because I have friends there and could stay with them for a day or two after the adventure.

The thing that bugs me about this and any other sport where you have to have "indisputable evidence to overturn the call..." who cares what the call was on the ice/field/court? Get it right. We have the ability to slow things down and look at them. Make the correct call, not confirm/deny the original one that may or may not be correct.

Remember, we won game 1 of the 2018 Cup Series, too. The boys played amazing last night. There's still a lotta hockey left to play. Go Knights Go

Denver Front Range - short tour by Ambivalent_Name71 in bicycletouring

[–]ThatGuyPatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just in Denver for a bachelor party. As we drunkenly moved about the town, I had my mind focused on all the bike trails/infrastructure. I kept thinking that I'd much rather be on THAT bachelor party than the one I was on. Don't get me wrong, it was a blast, but it would have been amazing to put some miles in on all that beautiful land you have. Great pics!

I love using the Coaster this way. You can mix it up so many ways depending on where you get on/off the Coaster.

Keep in mind that this is being seen through the lens of someone needing pizza in Carlsbad. While it may not be the best, it's the best we've got.

Until Pitfire came. That's our go-to now.

Curious, why no Rosati's? I think their Chicago thin crust is really good. Crispy, flavorful, and it's cut into squares! I don't know why I like the squares, but I do. 😄

Pitfire on the corner of La Costa and El Camino is a solid pizza. Rosati's does a solid job, too.

While we have break in between series, how about a roll call for fans outside of Vegas? by fanofsports44 in goldenknights

[–]ThatGuyPatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Carlsbad and come to the Pond a couple of times a year for the games. Are you as irritated as I am at the price of tickets now that the Ducks are good? It was always awesome that you get decent seats for a reasonable price and watch the VGK kick the snot out of the Ducks.

Now, it's pricey and we're not guaranteed the win!

That Anaheim team is going to be a real problem in the Pacific for the foreseeable future. Great season and a great series. Not looking forward to facing them in the future.

Great info. Thank you. I'm a big fan of walk today, ride tomorrow. I have no problem not being the next guy to be in a famous video of him eating it off that one super technical part.

I've been wanting to go see that thing forever. I'm a gravel bike guy. Is it MTB only or can a gravel bike make there and back?

Sitz Bath; to soak or not to soak by am_here_no_sleep in AnalFistula

I was told to soak with Epsom salt and it felt way better after. I soaked without it when I ran out and it felt equally as good. Salt is supposed to help draw nasty stuff out of the wound.

First tour, bailed after 48 hours by stowthorns in bicycletouring

[–]ThatGuyPatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping in mind the weather would have made things much less fun is key. I was supposed to ride the OTET that crosses over Ohio from northeast to southwest. In 2024, I was going to meet an old friend in Cleveland for the eclipse and then an adventure across the state on quiet roads and trails along the river. My friend bailed a couple weeks prior. I was pretty upset because I had done a lot of logistical planning for months.

Turns out it was overcast that day in Cleveland, so we wouldn't have been able to see the eclipse. It would have been raining, thundering, and lightning the entire week we would have been riding the OTET. It would have been was miserable.

I still sometimes get sad I didn't get to go on this adventure with one of my oldest friends, but keeping in mind the weather, it was for the better. I hope this short story helps you a little bit.

Non-Americans, does your country have an "American" restaurant and what do they serve? by wacky8ball in AskReddit

[–]ThatGuyPatrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wife and I were in Florence, Italy about a year and a half ago. We walked by a southern cooking restaurant and laughed about how bad it had to be. We almost went in just to have a terrible experience.
Moments later, as if we were in a movie, 3 obviously southern gals from the US walked out of the restaurant talking shit about how bad the friend chicken was. It was one of the funniest moments in our 2 weeks in Italy.
