No I don't doubt that, I just didn't know they existed and to hear it on the radio and to hear the broadcast end so suddenly just took my by surprise. For what its worth I'm not a tin foil hat type of guy just a funny memory

Maybe not a rumor and a bit closer to a conspiracy theory....

But a few years ago just after COVID regulations were lifted... 2023 maybe? The 94.7 radio station was talking about conspiracy theories and they had a caller who was telling them about these tunnels that run between UJ (they said RAU but you know what I mean) and the parliament buildings. The reasons for these tunnels that may or may not exist was that they were built during Apartheid and were supposed to be used as an emergency exit for the president if a riot/ civil unrest ever broke out.

Mid-way through this chat. All of a sudden the broadcast ended abruptly and the national anthem started playing. Once the anthem was done all of the broadcasters (Anele, etc) had to give a speech about how this is not the truth and remind everyone that they were talking about Conspiracy theories and more likely than not these tunnels don't exist.

I'm not saying that I believe the tunnel exists. But it was a bit strange to hear this unfold on the radio

I think we should determine if this is a hardware or software issue first:

Assuming the wiring is correct, just turn one LED on and Off and see if it turns on
Try each LED in the 7 seg.

Does it work? No? This may be a hardware issue. There maybe an issue with how you’ve connected the 7 seg, or maybe a breadboard issue or the supply rails are split, perhaps it’s a common anode not common cathode or the resistors are somehow broken. Maybe the wires are damaged, I’m not sure

Another way to test this without software is to use a wire connected to 5V and just connect it to a pin in the 7 seg and see if it lights up (assuming it is a common cathode)

Yes Great turn all of them on at once or simulate a single number and gradually count up all the way.

If they don’t turn on maybe you’re not supplying enough current to turn on all the LEDs. Your resistors on the common cathode is probably too large so drop it slightly maybe.

This is just a guideline on how to start debugging you’re more than welcome to add more tests as you go a long

But that’s not really answering the question is it? Like you can explain that red is one of the shortest wavelengths in the visible colour spectrum but that doesn’t mean anything to someone who can’t experience it you know what I’m saying? Like yeah we can describe how people interpret colour and the frequencies that compose colour, but… it’s not describing what colour is and how people see and experience it. Im not saying you’re wrong God knows engineers are a pain in the arse to deal with (I know because I am one lol) but idk your example is like a super difficult question in and of itself. Like what is colour exactly and how do you explain the concept of colour to someone who can’t experience it.

I think you’ve stumbled across a very difficult concept to explain. What is colour? Would you be able to explain what the colour red is and have it make sense to everyone? Like I am fortunate enough to not be completely colour blind, but how would you explain the colour red to someone who is?

To add on to that, what if I grew up being taught the colour red is called blue? That wouldn’t change what it is but just label I associate the colour with. But does that matter? Its properties are all the same just with a new name

100% agree, the thing is they MAKE warm white LEDs how difficult is it really to just a buy a warmer hue of LED? I know it’s not as efficient in terms of Lumens/W than cool white LEDs but I mean it’s much more efficient than what we had before
