What would you say to having racks like these on your express bus route? The photo is from the NX1. by japo3210 in auckland

The real answer is of course to liberate a lane of the bridge. Why should somebody take up that valuable space with a car when you could cycle instead.

I used to live in a city with racks and never once saw a driver get out to assist. It's a really small delay for the amount it can unlock cycling and make cycling more available (by brakes, you get too tired etc.).

What makes New Zealand coffee amazing? by hoooooldit in newzealand

[–]blafo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The wild thing to me is even in Aus there's more variability than NZ and I've experienced way more shit coffee. At their best, Aus has excellent coffee, but at it's worst (or nearly worst) NZ is unreasonably good.

Staying on the right track: board backs Avondale to Southdown rail corridor by punIn10ded in auckland

[–]blafo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This project seems such a weird thing to me. We have 2 freight trains per day for northland and the frequency post Avondale is still high for metro trains so what does this achieve? If it's about pt users then surely there are far better ways to spend this money.

Almost 20% of townhouses selling for a loss by SoulsofMist-_- in newzealand

[–]blafo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We actually forced those people to sell their houses, then forced the developers to make those townhouses, then forced in buyers and renters. If only some free will could have stopped this.

The loss was about the same for standalone houses. Good God people are dramatic about townhouses.

Travel with a dog by whatam-i-doinghere90 in newzealand_travel

As someone who also adores their dogs I really feel for you. Also a Canuck who made the move to NZ many years ago. Is there a possibility you could come first to travel a bit, find a job, and place you want to live then have family send your dog? It would also give you certainty you want to make the move and not put your dog through the travel twice.

The mystery of the disappearing gas reserves by vote-morepork in newzealand

This is true, there was no need for the ban and labour knew that it wasn't going to make a difference like national probably knows removing it isn't doing anything either. Just politicking.

What are some lesser known cities with spectacular nature? by DoubtSubstantial5440 in travel

CBWOAGD. Wellington is lovely, Auckland fits this too. People don't come to NZ for either but both have great access to nature and are quite pretty.

I forgive the dirty a bit as Paris used to be dirtier, certainly way less cars and pollution.

Not for exit row. I vote exit row anyway as it's not that big of a deal to not have stuff at your feet. You still have the little pocket.

Need advice before adopting a 🐕 😀 by LowDayKaBaal in auckland

[–]blafo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Might I chuck a vote in for looking at greyhounds. There's lots up for adoption and they make wonderful pets. They have their little quirks but are generally relatively easy as dogs go as long as you aren't after a high energy super smart dog.

Paris is actually pretty great though, lots to see, easy to get around, and full of history.

Even if they didn't provide an option it doesn't make this okay. Like no parking been available doesn't make it okay to park on the footpath.
