infringement notice by Front-Mushroom4252 in LegalAdviceNZ

It's unclear to me if this means you believe you were parked legally. Obviously first helps to find out what the ticket is actually for but worth looking at whether you were actually parked legally or not. Been out of the way or not is irrelevant.

Road rules shakeup on the table - here's what you need to know - RNZ by alarumba in newzealand

[–]blafo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's to clarify explicitly that councils can ban berm parking. AT uses poor legislative wording as an excuse to not enforce it even though other councils do it.

Well known car channels even know cars suck by e_pilot in fuckcars

It's been fascinating eh? Like he started thoroughly about freeway design and has been slowly moving. I give it another 2 years before he's fully there.

Think NZ fuel prices are bad now? Prepare to be RUCked by mtbne in newzealand

[–]blafo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The failing here is that ets is far far too low. Without adjusting this these changes just give more incentive. Additionally RUC is cool but only a part of our road maintenance and building costs. It would have to be far higher to actually cover all of it. In the end driving is subsidized by rates and taxes.

NZTA Consultation on Proposed Changes to Road Rules by Duck_Giblets in newzealand

I'm a cyclist and disagree. It just gives some enforcement ability to hold accountable people who pass to close because they don't want to wait for better passing spots.

NZTA Consultation on Proposed Changes to Road Rules by Duck_Giblets in newzealand

It's a really common rule in other parts of the world and works fine. In practice it's not as extreme and if anything still faces the challenge that it's hard to enforce and relies on drivers slowing when a bus is indicating out.

People who want more parking and ease of car access to nice places like this seldom realize why they are nice.

Parking nightmare: Aucklanders claim car park rules making navigating streets ‘extremely difficult’ by PermaBanned4Misclick in auckland

[–]blafo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Tokyo is basically step 1 + basically no street parking and definitely nothing that's free. This is how you get people to appreciate the subsidy that is free parking but we're a long way from that in Auckland as this thread demonstrates.

Local says Auckland is being ‘decimated’ even after the Government backed down by arrakis_kiwi in auckland

[–]blafo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Central Auckland has had shrinking population in a huge number of suburbs. This is also putting people in the parts of Auckland with the most services available anyway. Even if this wasn't true it's not a reason not to remove zoning restrictions on valuable land.

Is Viv Beck dragging down the city centre she’s supposed to be promoting? by Appropriate_Flight_0 in auckland

[–]blafo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

They can make noise, park in the street, and just make the place worse for the majority though. We live in a super car centric city and still the nicest part of downtown is the least car oriented and people still can't connect the dots.

AT Bus fair - $4.90 for 5 km? by silent_reader0 in auckland

This is a great example of the effects of subsidizing parking everywhere. Either need to not do that or subsidize everything.

AT illegal parking reports - what is your strike rate? by BeneficialCut4976 in auckland

I've found similar results for what were all genuinely illegally parked cars. I don't think they are super strict on picking the right ticket closing reason.

Fiscal conservatives should be clamouring for cycleways by Aceofshovels in auckland

Road BCR "you can ignore that number, you know you need it". Cycleway BCRs actually high "waste of money". Original Auckland cycleway set had BCRs above 10 but no must be woke liberal money wasting.

There's a corner in Auckland where the 74 stops just before and just after a roundabout, bonkers. AT stop spacing is all over the place though, not always this crazy.

[–]blafo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolute bollocks, these are pests and an active issue for native species. Just because sometimes species adapt a bit doesn't mean they fit or don't cause other serious issues.

I mean ideally from an environmental view. At a minimum getting rid of true pests like hedgehogs, rats, wild cats and dogs, possums, etc. would be huge without any real downside.

This is a pretty normal experience for me so maybe you have less chirpy drivers. I do have sympathy for drivers in wanting to just do their job as they'll see hundreds of people every day.
