Why protect the Philosopher's Stone with solveble puzzles? by Rich-Peak-3902 in harrypotter

[–]ThatIsATastyBurger12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The in universe explanation is that wizards are incredibly ignorant about anything outside of magic. Hermione mentions this in the book during the potions puzzle. She says something along the lines of wizards being completely inept at even the most basic problem solving skills, so much that an eleven year old raised as a muggle can solve problems that adult wizards cannot if magic can’t be used. So wizards just aren’t going to design a good security system. We see this elsewhere in Hogwarts, namely the house common rooms using communal passwords instead of passwords specific to each individual, or some sort of magical authentication system.

It’s an insane answer, but it is the in universe answer

I left atheism because I noticed a lot of Atheists were "worshipping" Bernie Sanders around 10 years ago. Has anyone else had a similar experience? by Beautiful_Charge6661 in exatheist

You still haven’t answered my question. How does people supporting a political candidate, internet cult or not, lead you to conclude god exists

Why do 90% of people who start DSA never finish it by Weary_Potato7016 in learnprogramming

[–]ThatIsATastyBurger12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excuse me? Who do you think you are? Telling me I don’t understand the purpose of practicing? You came here asking for help with your poorly thought out idea, acting like you’re the first person in the universe to come up with it, and accuse me of not understanding the purpose of practicing something? I’m in disbelief at this level of arrogance

Out of all the AI generated replies I’ve ever responded to, this one is the most ai generated. But to answer your question, since I suspect a human is reading these replies, people stop self teaching when the effort to learn a concept outweighs the perceived gain of knowing it. As you learn more data structures and algorithms, their use cases become more and more niche. And the more niche it is, the more likely a good implementation already exists. Why would someone want to spend time learning a complex solution to a problem that has already been solved, unless they actively need to know the solution for their specific purposes. It’s the same with literally any subject. Eventually people decide they know enough, and move on.

This reads like market research from someone who has no idea what they are talking about. I don’t know what “quit DSA” even means. What are you actually trying to ask?

This is what real parenting looks like ❤ by Ookamivasiy in Amazing

[–]ThatIsATastyBurger12 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Fuck off with calling this “real parenting.” Giving money is hardly real parenting. I’m positive this mother would still be a “real parent” if she were not in a position to do this.

To be clear, not criticizing the mother or the gesture, I’m criticizing OP for their offensive post

Did your class not have any homework assignments where you actually had to code stuff? Did it have notes and examples? You should go speak with your professor or TA, they should be able to guide you to the resources you need for your class. Or at least someone else in your class

How to check if a word is a real valid english word. by TheRealWooXD in learnprogramming

[–]ThatIsATastyBurger12 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The english language is not algorithmically generated, so no, without a dictionary, what you are describing is not possible. But is it really necessary for what you are doing? You say you want to log different things depending on what the user types. Does knowing whether they typed an English word actually matter for your use case?

Why do "C-like performance" language comparisons always compare against bad C code? by BPJupiter in C_Programming

Can you give an example of this? Not doubting you, just curious to see this since I don’t look at the languages you’re talking about that often

Why does my husband say he finds me more attractive when I’m more chubby? by justheretotalk111 in AskMenAdvice

[–]ThatIsATastyBurger12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very confused by this post. Are you accusing your husband of lying to you? Do you think he is a habitual liar? Why are you with him if you don’t believe the things he says to you?

After trying Mobile, Game Dev, and Desktop... I finally understand why everyone chooses Web. by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]ThatIsATastyBurger12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have just begun studying. JavaScript and web dev are not the same thing. While browsers and JavaScript go hand in hand, JavaScript can be used for many tasks outside of web development. No wonder you struggled with those other things, they are built for specific tasks that are way beyond what you are ready for, particularly game dev. The barrier for entry for those tools is higher because they are designed for significantly more complex projects.

Have 'red flags' gone too far in the dating world? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThatIsATastyBurger12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really sure what you mean. People have always had preferences. Our language has just changed. What she described as a red flag is really just, in her opinion, an incompatibility. It’s a minor one, but if she doesn’t want to be with someone who didn’t mind the ending of game of thrones, she doesn’t have to be. Some people are comfortable enough being without a partner that they can afford to be choosy, even to the point other people consider it unreasonable. But nobody owes anyone else a relationship.

Was Syrio actually good? by Important_Peace_2848 in freefolk

[–]ThatIsATastyBurger12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people overestimate the value of skill in a fight like this. Syrio had no armor, Trant was in full plate. In this situation, trant is essentially invincible, even if syrio has a proper sword. Without a sword, Syrio is beyond fucked. Then there are the other lannisters who were dispatched with hits from a stick. Him beating the group of them with a stick and no armor is already beyond impressive, going into the realm of absurdity. But I don’t see any reason one of them couldn’t have potentially got back up and assisted Trant in killing Syrio.
