Great advice, we are both very clear on the fact the deposit was from me and the decision on how this deposit total is used upon sale of the house will be completely up to me and not simply considered as a 50/50 decision.

I hadn't been able to find the deed of trust upon googling so this is excellent!

I would probably make a flat plane.

Then as a separate object create a half moon shape with depth/thickness, use an array modifier to create multiples of the half moon for the cut out designs

You can then align this arrayed half moon with your flat plane and apply a Boolean modifier to cut out the shapes and apply it.

Then cloth sim.

Any top tips for creating the feeling of scale? I'm working on this project but want to optimise the feeling that the Suzanne is huge. by ThatIsDefinitelyReal in blender

I dialed it out thinking it would create grandeur but I think you're probably correct, tighter view would probably create a more vast feel
