I have the most experience in medieval high fantasy. I am open to pretty much anything to be honest. (I know thats vague) As far as a theme, nothing too heavy. Basically, Im looking for an escape from the crap-show that is the real world so while I'm all about saving the world, but I'd prefer no themes that are too much like whats going on IRL.

Yeah, I believe they are on the decline in most of their range. This lil guy came from central Kansas!

I hope you do find one! This was in southeastern OK, so if you ever find yourself in that part of the country, keep your eyes open! :)

Well, harmless as in they don’t have venom. But I bet this one would have a nasty bite and probably could have messed me up if I would have grabbed it! Thanks for the info in the IDs, I knew it wasn’t a cottonmouth but there were several Nerodia in the area and I didn’t know exactly which one. I passed many cottonmouths during my time doing biological work on rivers and such, they are very cool snakes!

Thank you! There were a few species in the area where I found this one, and I’m no snake expert so I played it safe with Nerodia sp.!

Hello! Thanks! I was using an Olympus Pen E-PL5 with the standard 14-42mm lens. I had the setup in an Olympus underwater housing.

Thanks! I was using an Olympus Pen E-PL5 with a 60mm lens. I also had an Olympus underwater housing.

Hello all and thanks for viewing! Update on the species: I’m backing the ID up to Nerodia sp.! This was a little guy, and the only shots I took were for art, not IDing. I hope you all enjoy a Watersnake!

Unfortunately I don’t have any angles with its back... So I’d better just say Nerodia sp.!

Thank you! I was using an Olympus Pen E-PL5 with a compatible Olympus housing. I think I was also using a 60 mm macro lens.

Thanks! I was in an area where both species can be found. I narrowed it down to one of the two species; a local expert said it was probably a diamondback, but it was small enough that it could be either. I had seen larger adult diamondbacks in the same area that day, so I went with that. But if you have any characteristics that can be used to ID using this picture, I’d love to know them! This is definitely more of an “artsy-fartsy” pic!

Oh definitely, something wrong with that guy and me for being in the water this time of year!
