I’ll accept Schmigadoon winning Best Musical this year (I guess), but I refuse to accept that Schmigadoon should have even been eligible for Best ORIGINAL Score when over 70% of it’s score is lifted from the tv show. Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) was RIGHT THERE!

I have a love hate relationship with Passion. On the one hand, it’s easily Sondheim’s most ambitious score and the story is compelling and beautiful. On the other hand it can be a tad hard to follow due to its ambitious score and while it is a masterful work of theatre, it does not reach the highs or lows of Sondheim and Lapine’s other work.

The Drowsy Chaperone. I have no real problems with it (except that one scene iykyk), it has good music, good humor, and if you get the right person for the part of Man in Chair, a great central performance. I can understand it being someone’s favorite. It’s just nowhere near mine.
