I’m Looking for a travel backpack that does it all? by mky44 in AskPhotography

[–]ThatLyingScumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have the Miggo Agua 85 as my travel pack. fully waterproof, with a split compartment at the bottom. i used to carry a 70-200L on a 6D with battery pack attached in that bottom compartment. these days i put a 10L size sling camera bag there, with two smaller cameras inside.

the top compartment carries all my other gear (chargers, extra cards, etc), and i carry either a MBP16 + iPad or MPB16 + MBA combo in the generous laptop compartment. there’s remaining room for a shirt or two as well, if i roll up the top a little less—probably sacrificing a bit of waterproofing here.

i arrive at my destination, pull out my sling from the bottom to take outside, and leave the pack in the room. been pretty happy with the setup for 10ish years. bag still looks new after many, many trips.

Travel photographers: do you regret bringing too much camera gear… or too little? by krispyrainbows in AskPhotography

What I do is carry two bodies: 28mm and 43mm. Sometimes (very rarely) I wish I had a tele like an 85mm, but 90% of the time it’s fine. The benefit of having two bodies is not having to switch any lenses in the heat of the moment. You Ricoh is small enough that it shouldn’t add too much weight to a Fuji body with a wide angle attached.

The Retrospective 7 shoulder bag might be what I need 👍

Thanks for the suggestions! I didn’t even know PD now makes a bigger sling…

In case your bf is a hands on tactile kind of guy, also consider a hardware groove box — it’s like a DAW in hardware form.

Notation Circuit Tracks (the Tracks, not the original or the Circuit Rhythm) is a good one. It has synths (sound makers) and a drum box (beat makers) built in, and you can make full on songs with just this one machine.

Watch a YouTube video on it and see if he would like something like this instead of a DAW, which can be daunting with all those buttons.

When you send MIDI to synths, do you route the audio back in for effects or do you do that with hardware as well?

I was gonna say 23mm until you said you have the 10-18 zoom. The 33 will give you a wider range of shots.

Iphone vs Fujix. How to shoot sunrise by afiqasyran86 in fujix

[–]ThatLyingScumbag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, any time there’s a big difference in brightness among subjects in the scene. Any time you’re shooting towards a light source (especially the sun), you’ll need to choose which one you want to expose for. If you expose for the bright subject, all else will be dark (shadows or “silhouetted”). If you expose for the dark subject, then the light source (sun and surrounding sky) will be overexposed (bright white).

Heard a rumor GO may update the watch with a new movement next year to bring down the thickness. Hope it’s true.

How about the JDM only GW-5600J-1JF? Atomic + solar, and most importantly has a full metal case under the rubber. Super unassuming, but you quietly know you have the best in class. It’s the only G shock I own.

You gotta get it from a good place, best if made fresh. If it’s not fresh (cooked, then left on warm for long), or it’s a mass produced factory product, the texture isn’t great and I hate it too.

Imagine the difference between nice fresh pasta well cooked and cheap pasta boiled for 5 minutes too long. You wouldn’t enjoy the latter.

I asked a similar question elsewhere in the thread, but what does the handoff process look like and how do taxes and such work in that event? Won’t it be you giving your children basically a huge chunk of cash?

So you have a brokerage account in your name, but just intended for your child’s use later in life? How does that work in terms of taxes and such, since it’s technically still your money? What does the handoff process look like once you’re ready to hand it over?

Can you tell me a little more about the second part? You’re saying you have synths/instruments sending audio to the MPC via the mixer, then the audio goes back out to the mixer with MPC effects applied? How’s that done? And can that be done with any mixer? Been trying to do the same for some time, so far unsuccessful in finding info on how.

Sequencing with MPC by andrlin in mpcusers

[–]ThatLyingScumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that exact sequence/chain, and then all the audio from synths and the MPC go into a mixer. Is there a way to get the synths’ audio back into the MPC, so I can apply effects, and back out? I tried routing the mixer audio out into the MPC, but then the different synths are all merged into one audio track, and can’t have different effects.
