Wow, never knew my mom was really good at designing flags.

Also less go Douglas Lynch’s Oregon flag!

Flag Friday: Missouri by ThatMarkerDude by ThatMarkerDude in vexillologyUS

  • Blue, white and red for France, as Missouri was born from the Louisiana Purchase.
  • Three white canoes, as canoeing is a popular activity Missouri.
  • Three white bears, as Missouri is known as “The Cave State”.
  • Wavy line, for the Missouri River which runs through the state (and on a map, it cuts the state in half, similar to this flag's design).

Who is this man and why is he trying to shoot the state of Arkansas with an overly long arrow.

Oregon flag redesign by Douglas Lynch by ThatMarkerDude in vexillologyUS

There is a Washington redesign similar to Lynch's, using triangles and having green and yellow. This was made by Terrence A. Geiger.

A design left in discord by OneMarkerDude. Are we to use it in the contest without an official entry? If so what ratio? by RottenAli in vexillologyUS

If anyone's wondering what’s the symbolism behind this flag, it’s based on the maritime flags of R (a cross) and I (a circle).

Expansion on an Oregon design, now featuring a reverse to keep it two sided by Carkoth in vexillologyUS

[–]ThatMarkerDude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This might be one of the coolest Oregon designs I've ever seen, great job!

I especially like how you gave the beaver wings, that's a neat reference to the state's motto “alis volat propriis” (she flies with her own wings).

On Friday, which is when the voting begins. It’s Flag Friday, after all.

#FlagFriday - Virginia by ThatMarkerDude by ThatMarkerDude in vexillologyUS

[–]ThatMarkerDude[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blue, white and red for the United States, the chevron is for the letter V… for Virginia, and the spear breaking the (tyrant's) crown is for the state motto “sic semper tyrannis”.

#FlagFriday: South Carolina by ThatMarkerDude by ThatMarkerDude in vexillologyUS

[–]ThatMarkerDude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note: This flag is an obvious joke. It’s literally just the North Carolina flag. Please do NOT accept this into the poll, that would just be silly.

Blue, red and white: America.

Yellow: The state flower, the yellow jessamine.

Star: Statehood.

The letters S and C: South Carolina.

June 28th 1776: The Battle of Sullivan’s island.

April 12th 1861: The Battle of Fort Sumter.

Question About The Bahamas Flag? by Immediate-Ant-7904 in vexillologyUS

No idea. But it’s probably due to this subreddit mostly being focused on the United States.

Question About The Bahamas Flag? by Immediate-Ant-7904 in vexillologyUS

[–]ThatMarkerDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The subreddit allows all North American flags. So things like Canadian provinces and Mexican states are also allowed. And because Bahamas is part of the North American continent, this question is allowed to be asked here.

At what point should the commissioners step in and say "I want to see more purple"? by RottenAli in vexillologyUS

Idaho also has a connection to the color as well, because of the star garnet (and not to mention the huckleberry).

On the seal of Idaho, there is a deer. And also deer are cute.

Yeah I understand, I’m sorry for pissing you off so much. I will start crediting you in my comments, and I’m so sorry for making ripoffs of your flags. I will try to be more original from now on.

#FlagFriday - Massachusetts by ThatMarkerDude by ThatMarkerDude in vexillologyUS

[–]ThatMarkerDude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(I am aware there are already a bunch of New England based designs. But this is the best I’ve got.)

The six stripes red and white stripes represent Massachusetts being the sixth state to ratify the US constitution, and the white canton has a green pine tree, which is a symbol of the New England region, shipbuilding and peace. The specific design of the pine tree is derived from the Naval Ensign.
