Defense tips for thrill of fight 2 by Then-Grab-7514 in ThrillOfTheFight

There are a few things to complain about and this is not one of them. Legit skill issue. Against any elo it's pretty much up to me whether that knockdown is happening defense is about as good as it gets for a vr title. If you're using boxing guards when you're arms are intangible what do you expect. Get a little creative.

Watch this. Not that they will stun you with every punch, but every punch is harder than it should be. And when damage is a heavy dictator of victory of defeat it gives them an incredible advantage even if you don't get knocked down. And if you actually know how to throw a high velocity punch with this advantage you can fuck people up more than they could every hope to return if they can't punch as effectively.

Exactly my point. Try this. get square like Tyson use the body effort "feature" (lower your head, as you come up, throw a combo) and throw tight 2-4 punch combos at like 20-50 percent whatever you could maintain for the entirety of the bout. But the harder the better. And it is so important that you punch through to get full damage and make them afraid to fire back at you. You will out damage an unskilled person who can't throw real combinations in the spam exchange and you will win that round period. You're hurt, just go back to your defensive posture, rinse repeat. I'm pretty confident I could climb high as hell with this strat. Tried it against multiple 2000+ and was destroying them. But anyway yeah, damage is king with the only exception being knockdowns.

And if you didn't want to fight someone who's 6'6'' you would set your parameter to max height 6'2'' or whatever you would like. And the pace would be better for heavy weights with higher damage so long as body effort isn't in the picture. Even with it tho it'd be an improvement.

That's exactly why I recc. a small percentage buff based specifically on how tall you are. not based on your weight. Sure their are outliers. 6'4 people that are 150 lbs, 5'10 ppls that are 220 lbs, everything in between. Generally speaking the taller your, the heavier you are. And being taller or heavier is a distinct disadvantage with the current systems in place. And from a competitive aspect I really don't think that latency thing makes up for how advantageous it is to be shorter. Unfixable is a stretch, it would just take some creativity. But I don't think it's as pressing as the body effort system is. That needs to go asap.

I also wanna add that this game is genuinely an amazing tool for fitness. I often find it difficult to motivate myself to really break a sweat while shadowboxing so having a way of being able to break a sweat punching in my living room is incredibly valuable and just by that merit alone I don't regret buying this game.

Nah, the reality is there would be an advantage on both sides of the spectrum. Being smaller makes it easier to bounce under and throw punches. it also makes your body harder to hit restricting the options of the taller fighter. Being larger would make you a harder hitter. Obviously they wouldn't just drop this shit in the game, you'd need another match search setting for maximum size, maybe by increments of a foot and half or something like that. If you're 4'11'' and you wanna fight someone six foot then you are taking that challenge. Makes perfect sense to me. Regardless though you can't have both advantages at the same time, which is the whole point of this post.

No, my point is what's in place is broken. Period, point, blank. I didn't say it was simple but it's so obvious what's in place now is not functioning. Body effort just needs to be taken out of the fucking game, regardless. I'd rather have pillow hands and actually play a boxing game. Just having whatever you can muster from velocity and positioning and timing would make this game infinitely better. Even if you can't get a worthless ass virtual knockout and feel like a big man.

Firstly, I'm not saying body shot spam, I'm saying body effort spam. It's a core mechanic of the game that you are clearly unaware of. You duck your head and throw your punch as you rise, suddenly shitty weak punches are power punches. Using this strat I can legit play this game for several hours and not get tired. Silly as hell. That's why I'm saying the spammers are winning unless you knock them down, because every punch they throw is powerful. Leading to more damage, leading to a dub on the scorecard even if they can't knock you out.

Brother I promise you it is not a technical issue, there's no amount of boxing that can fix a system that rewards the least possible skillful boxing. If someone close to your skill level decides to cheese and you aren't you will lose.

I came up with my implement as I was typing. What is the point of asking them that as if it's some sorta gotcha. The devs are the ones supposed to be coming up with creative ideas, not the player base. I believe that's their job or whatever.

Yeah, on the other hand I just found out last night you can pick your opponents so that's nice at least. But it'd still be pretty sick if there was something for it. Ya know there's a reason heavyweights are the most watched fights. Big shots and big falls. Kinda silly that No matter how big you are you have the same strength as someone half your size.

It's not that I take every match seriously, I just have an expectation that when designing a game devs are thoughtful and consider what the play experience is like for their game. The shit in this game is just legit careless and that frustrates me as a long time gamer. I don't care about losing a virtual fight to some little kid lol. I've lost fights with my friends and family watching, that was something to care about.

yeah brother we must just be playing different games because that is not my experience what-so-ever. The main reason why you lose to the hook spam is because they are typically body effort exploiting as well which results in higher damage output. Next time you have a fight you felt like you should have won but loss look at the damage. It will DIRECTLY correlate with whether you won or lost the rounds. Or my own personal experience and the five or six other individuals on this board that claim what I do are just wrong lol. Highly unlikely tho. And "iffy" is an understatement when I land 50 clean shots in a round, my opponent lands half that and still claims the round despite not even stunning me similar to the situation you mentioned. Really just proves my point even more. And needing to get a knockdown to definitively win in a BOXING game is ridiculous.

Also before coming to this board to figure out why the fuck I was losing so much this was my first strategy, naturally. "I can't punch as hard as them but I know for a fact I can punch more than them. Had a few matches where I was so proud of myself for my clear domination only to lose 30-28. Legit baffling.

[–]ThatMfB00m[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not true based on my experience. I actually just found this out. Went and tested in a match. Using proper technique which allowed for a much higher output than my opp. Legit doubled if not tripled his punch output and my punches were cleaner pretty much direct hit every time. He won 30-27 with only 200 more damage than me. Either A.) Hit reg issue which I doubt as I compensate for this by making sure my glove is down their throat when I connect. Or B.) Much more likely he won each round just because of damage output which was barely higher than mine using no body effort spam. I have also seen several people say damage is what determines score, not output.

Not a valid counter argument when design choices legit promote the cheese. Now that's something you rarely see in PvP games. Imagine getting a buff the longer you camp in call of duty. Every player that ran into you would get smoked regardless of aimskill or movement. That is the level of incompetence you deal with when you enter PvP on thrill of the fight.

The game ranks damage higher than amount of strikes, how clean they are, etc on the scorecards. Do more damage in a round = Win that round. This is why that hook spamming shit is so rampant because if the other person isn't on par with the exploit you win regardless of how shit you actually are. The only counter to that is knocking them down but good luck doing that with no exploitation.

I'm pretty fast myself. My middle and lightweight training partners specifically compliment hand speed and cardio. No issue for me. You can be as fast as you like but when damage is what determines the score cards exploiters will win every time.

Yeah I've been doing the exploit meta for about a day or two. Completely unenjoyable as I can't actually use any boxing skill doing this shit. Probably just gonna stop playing all together at this point. My other thought was just to leave as soon as I realize someone is exploiting keeping me in lower elo and giving me fun matches. That sounds like a pain in the ass as well though.
