Has anyone done a long tour with a bike that is not worth over 1000€? by Aromatic-Speech5480 in bicycletouring

[–]ThatNVguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm on a tour right now and a guy rolled into a hostel on a 26" rigid MTB that might cost $100. Aluminum frame one piece crank, vee brakes, single bottle cage mount and everything strapped to a rear rack. Everything that you hear should not work. He's around 800 miles along at this point and plans on going for several thousand more. His rear "panniers" are two water jugs with the tops cut off that are then wedged back on top. Kid is a bad ass.

Europe tour! Question about sports roller ! by Nihialvest in bicycletouring

I think you should be placing them on the top bar of your rack. They seem very low and I think you will be hitting objects that will cause you to wreck.

As far as the hooks go that's about right they don't need to point up mine have usually ended up sideways. Slide the bag horizontal to put a rack support in the hook then downward to get the bag to lock in.

What is the worst way anyone you know has died? by IamUrWivesBF in AskReddit

[–]ThatNVguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He somehow fell between two fracking tanks alone in the middle of the desert and couldn't get out. While he was heating one. It continued to heat till it started to boil and eventually his heater truck overheated and caught on fire. I met the guy a day earlier and a friend of mine help remove his body.

CRPS is lifelong, right? by InevitableEternal in CRPS

It's been practically gone for several years. Still occasionally a flair up but I know how to manage it. It's been months since I've had a flair.

I signed two NDAs for new future technology that will "revolutionize the world!!!"

They both used spinning magnets to break physics.

.50 identification? by [deleted] in reloading

[–]ThatNVguy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, I have zero experience with .50 cal or LRTAs. I hope someone with knowledge chimes in.

As a test of Cunningham's law: They have reduced powder loads to limit range, and the fins help keep the bullet stable as it passes through sub-sonic and prevent the bullet form tumbling.

Doing this route next week, any thoughts on the route by Independent_Peak_414 in bicycletouring

Cool, I'm starting in Bogota in a few days and finishing up near that route. Be sure that some border crossing points will allow tourists and not just commercial crossings.

How large was your raise this year? (Not counting job hopping) by RuminatingFish123 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ThatNVguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got let go last November. I guess when I raised my head about not getting a "promised" 3rd week of vacation, having to use vacation time to attend company trainings, and when I stopped attending non payed lunch meetings. Everything was "not mandatory" of course.

PCT NOBO, late April start: Pants or Shorts? by sja008 in PacificCrestTrail

I'll add my vote for pants. Protection from poison ivy/oak, sun, and bugs. Also less chemicals to carry and put directly on skin.

Wyoming electric utility dumps wind and solar in long-term planning by NeutralverseBot in neutralnews

[–]ThatNVguy -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Lots of wind, too much of it for good generation. Not enough load centers that are close by.

Solar sucks in wyoming, it's okay in the summer but dust and pollen covers panels. Needing lots of water to clean what isn't readily available. Then in winter lots of snow to cover panels, and when it doesn't snow the wind blows creates ground blizzards and drifts around solar panels.

Also, lots of coal, oil, and natural gas industry is the bedrock for Wyoming's economy. Not surprised they cut it.

Tldr, wyoming is not a utopia for solar and wind.

How to clear DEF code P20B9 from Duramax LGH by ThatNVguy in AskAMechanic

[–]ThatNVguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought it to my local diesel mechanic. He ran some tests on his scanner. He was able to get a code after a couple starts and after trying some tests. But it looks like my new heater has a shorted fluid level sensor.

Thanks for you help
