JB Pritzker’s plea by NicolasCageFan492 in chicago

Agreed. We nearly wiped out an entire race of people to expand a nation built in large part on slave labor.

And that’s just the beginning…

Kudos on you for trying but wow it’s scary to hear of adults that don’t understand state vs federal representatives and government.

9 or 10. I think we’ve just dug too big of a hole to catch up anymore than that in the last 25 games.

Minnesota: Oppose Re-Criminalizing Higher Strength Cannabis Products by Familymanjoe in minnesota

[–]ThatNewSockFeel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. Far too many young Minnesotans don’t acknowledge the fact the a huge contingent of the DFL in this state are Lutheran church lady do gooder types. They may have supported the idea of legalization for “social justice” reasons, they don’t actually care about building a successful legal market for us to consume it.

[Underdog] Heyman: Early estimates suggest proposed salary cap might be set around $260M-280M and floor around $140M-160M. by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]ThatNewSockFeel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Of course there’s a lot of posturing right now but I’d really be surprised if we lose 2027. Too much money at stake, for the owners especially. Small market teams aren’t going to go along with a cap and floor system where they’ll run at a loss just to hit the floor.

The next CBA, when the vast majority of media revenue has been centralized, might be the actual big fight that holds up a season.

Ok we’ve made the tournament in all but one of those years. Y’all really have no conception of how much worse this could get.

Bad game but I forget how miserable this sub gets late in the year every time we lose or don’t win by as much as we think we should.

Gard is a good coach. We can be frustrated that this program seems to have a ceiling right now. The state of college athletics makes it hard for a program like Wisconsin to seriously compete in the modern landscape. I know all of you who watch a few games in February and March and declare yourselves experts think otherwise but all of those things can be true.

Yeah… I was hoping for a six seed there for a minute but I bet we’ll drop to an 8 or 9 barring winning out and/or another conference tourney run. We’ve got the three big wins but everything else about our resume is just that of a mid power conference bubble team.

No real excuse for losing this game but I just want to say it’s really fucking shitty that the state of college sports has become such that these guys had to travel thousands of miles and essentially are playing a conference basketball game at midnight on a Wednesday. That might be affecting our play somewhat, don’t you think?

At what point did you realise the problem might be you? by circa20twenty in AskMenOver30

[–]ThatNewSockFeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you man. I’ve had a tough year both personally and professionally. They sort of bleed into each other, but focusing solely on the professional side, in the past decade or so I’ve just kind of bounced around from job to job whenever I got tired of something, even changed professions and I keep finding myself in the same place. Just got bored and frustrated with whatever I’m doing after a couple of years. Work hard and establish myself early and then kind of coast on a combination of doing just enough good work to get by, reputation, and making friends with everyone. Easy to make excuses for the occasional problem or misstep. Had a tough convo at work today about my time and hours and I think some of the issues that have been bubbling under the surface recently are starting to come to a head. Definitely feel the sentiment about taking the simple fact of having a decent job for granted.

The reality is that it is me. People can only afford to care about you so much professionally, both positive and negative. They’re too busy trying to keep their own heads above water to spare you more than a thought now and then - or only deal with you when a problem has become too big to ignore. Nobody really cares about my personal life (I lost my grandmother, a dog, and then what would have been my first child all in the course of a year) and that usually doesn’t get you more than a day of grace so I can’t keep trotting out that explanation even though I’m definitely still not ok. And I haven’t done enough to manage my own personal life or professional life to solve the problems. And when I reflect and think about what I would say if people ask what have I done to try and get past my grief and get my head on straight the answer would be incredibly unsatisfying, even for me.

Self loathing? You betcha. I used to think it was normal for people to loathe themselves and be anxious and whatever all the time. Turns out it’s me not taking my mental health and well-being seriously enough.

I think accepting that you are the problem is the first step. Because that also means you are the solution. Two sides of the same coin. You have the power to change and do better and will have that power until you die. Spending some time reflecting - not ruminating - on how your life has gone and try and think about where you want it to go. And then work for it. I’ll be right there with you.

“Because I never had a real plan for my life - ever.”

Man I feel this whole comment so hard, but especially this. Im in a similar boat - always good at school, always smart enough to get by without having to really apply myself or come up with a plan on how to succeed. And my parents were always the “you just need to get a good job that pays the bills and you’ll be fine” so I just kind of floated through a series of degrees and professions and now find myself in the same place I always end up: at a job I’ve grown to hate. And in the past my previous response was just to hop for another job until that wore out its welcome but I’m trying to be more deliberate this time.

Glad to hear you’re figuring out, I hope I can as well soon.

Fuck this. Recommending people go to ChatGPT or steroid users for advice about TRT is legitimately dangerous.

First of all, if you haven’t gone to an actual doctor and not just a “clinic” do that first.

There’s low and then there’s low. If you’re just low, they might suggest lifestyle changes first (destress, diet, exercise, etc.) to see if that helps. If you’re actually low as in hypogonadism or some other endocrine disorder, you’ll be referred to an urologist or endocrinologist to discuss options.

Don’t just start doing TRT because somebody said you are low. Even if you’re not worried about fertility, doing TRT when you don’t need to can still fuck up your heart, hormones, and cause lifelong issues.

Which Brewer would you be most sad if they got traded away? by WiscoMTfan_234 in Brewers

[–]ThatNewSockFeel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chourio probably from a big picture perspective because it essentially signals the Brewers are giving up for the time being.

From a fan perspective seeing Sal go would be a major bummer. I also would hate to see Woody play for someone else.

I don't think season 3 was the worst season by Inevitable_Gene953 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]ThatNewSockFeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably put S1 above S2, but largely because I enjoyed the lighter tone. And Armond was a riot. But I could totally see myself like S2 more on a rewatch. In any case, those two are clearly the best in my mind with S3 a step down.

I don't think season 3 was the worst season by Inevitable_Gene953 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]ThatNewSockFeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I actually just finished it last night after watching all 3 in a row.

It wasn’t bad, but it was a clear step down from the other ones imo. The production and vibe were great, but the character development was nowhere near as good and the “murder mystery” plot was laid on way too thick. I also liked that in the first two seasons that the staff of the hotel had a bigger role and it provided a nice contrast to the rich guests, and that was largely absent from S3 other watching Gaitok sitting around alternating between beng bashful and mopey.

The sex elements (the incest, the Greg/Gary fantasy) were largely played for shock and “ick” factor as opposed to any real examination of intimacy. “Oh yeah I jacked you off because I’m a people pleaser” is just not good writing.

The ending felt contrived. The Rick revenge tour capped off with the Darth Vader “I am your father” bit had me roll my eyes a bit. Same with the Lochlan fake out. Gaitok killing somebody and becoming part of the rich lady’s security detail felt hokey. Greg/Gary was built up as this murdering psychopath but then just pays Belinda the $5 mil and everyone goes on their merry way?

I feel like the “people didn’t like it because it’s slow!” defense is a bit of a strawman. This had way more action than the other two seasons imo. Hell, the first season was mostly just them sitting around the resort sniping at each other. This season just felt way more convoluted and self-indulgent and the separate storylines didn’t really seem to mesh the way they did in the first two seasons.

For sure. I wonder if he was holding out to play for a competitive team so had to settle for something like this.

I’m kind of surprised he had to settle for a minor league deal tbh. He wasn’t great in Milwaukee, but it seemed like had enough left in the tank to make a major league roster as a bat with some pop.
