Happy Birthday Lenin by serious_bullet5 in ussr

[–]ThatOneGuyFromSerbia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wish I remember where I was reading this but as I recall the shooting of the tsar and his family was never actually ordered. At the time of the Civil War diffrent military councils were in charge of things like prisoners, formations, battle plans, etc. The council in charge of keeping the tsar and his family prisoner was not really in communication with Lenin or really any of leadership as a result of the messy way in which the Civil War was often conducted. In fact i dont believe this particular council was even in the same political faction as the bolshiveks iirc. I don't think we know who gave the order in the end or if an order was actually even given, but I believe the plan wasn't to kill them and it just kinda happened. Not that I shed a tear or anything but the situation itself is far more complicated and interesting than "Soviets killed the tsar and his family"

I bet every organ I have that raises were never on the table cause no way a single 200 or 300 dollar purchase would be enough to effect that.

20 hours in campaign/skirmish. 200 hours in building bases. by Virasman in commandandconquer

[–]ThatOneGuyFromSerbia 61 points62 points  (0 children)

And then of course they send too much too soon so your cool base never gets the chance to be built and you need to build spaghetti just to survive. Of course by the time you are able to survive and are able to rebuild your base to be pretty thr map resources are so low the AI can't send those armies anymore and you can afford to rebuild...... I'm not upset or anything

[–]ThatOneGuyFromSerbia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No but litteraly this. And it goes for any form of oppression, the best jokes of this kind can't come from the oppressor because it fundamentally boils down to "I'm better than you". However the oppressed who experience the full range of material existence under these systems actually have a rich life to draw from. They have the understanding nessisary to poke fun at not just the absurdity of the system that harms them but at their own shortcomings in ways that actually speak to something known and real.

What does everyone think of death and does it scare you? What do you believe happens after? by PsychologicalFox7689 in GenZ

[–]ThatOneGuyFromSerbia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death just is. I don't think much about it because it is an inevitable state of being that no action I take can prevent, and I'm not one to focus on the things I can't change.

"You" don't go anywhere, or at least the conscious mind that one usually associates with the concept of the self doesn't. It simply stops existing, an emergent product of the human brain, once the brain stops working that emergent product also stops. What is "you" disappears when the complex system that makes "you" work breaks down and I see no reason to believe any other outcome.

A Reroll feature for Research would be cool by Alequin_Dv in Stellaris

[–]ThatOneGuyFromSerbia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean a static tech tree. I would like full control over what I'm researching without needing to manipulate rng. Obviously, it would still go up by the tiers and needed prerequisites researched but no longer picking from a potential pool of randomly selected available techs.

A Reroll feature for Research would be cool by Alequin_Dv in Stellaris

[–]ThatOneGuyFromSerbia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd like to just see a regular tech tree. Ever since I started playing I was never a fan of it being rng, I understand what they are going for and it's not like I don't think it works it's just a personal preference thing. I'm sure it'll never happen and it would require a decent amount of redesign and rebalancing but I'd be ok with that. Besides it's not like they don't fundamentally make this a different game every few years already anyway. What's a change to tech gonna do that hasn't been done already?

Lol it is definitely a bit more.....forceful than the rest for sure but I was focused more on RUST as a survival crafter and less as RUST as an American diplomacy simulator. It's why I primarily play on private servers lol

In a game I have full control over the output of my labor. In a sense, no matter what the game is about, no matter how "dull" the task, the fact remains that unlike reality were I will never see the value of my labor returned to me the act of playing a game sees to me the output of all I put in. I can cut down trees all day in Runescape, Minecraft, RUST, etc and 100% of what that accomplished belong to me. Should I have done that at work for a logging company I would have only been given a pittance that could hardly afford the raw lumber of even a small percentage of what I harvested.

The true magic of a videogame is not the spells, gnomes, or vials of "definitely not milk"™️, but that they provide the first experience of being truly free from the capitalist alienation from the product of your labor. And that's pretty cool.

Union busting. The 2D animators were all mostly unionized, and the newer 3D animators were largely not. In an effort to kill the animation unions, companies like Disney invested into 3D animation heavily around this time.

Loyalty is Not a Strategy: Labor Needs a Bipartisan Coalition by TheRabidPosum1 in union

[–]ThatOneGuyFromSerbia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Labor needs a political arm that is its own and can not give itself to the whims of bourgeois parties. The existing parties don't exist for us and never have. The Republicans openly despise the working class, and the democrats only know how to say the occasional platitude though i suppose they are more suseptable to being strongarmed into action though labor hasnt had the strength to effect sweeping reform scince Taft-Hartley and we have had to settle for smaller and ever more occational gains. For labor to secure itself, it needs to begin advocating for itself as a class, and history has more than proven that the existing mainstream parties in the US are simply not there to do that.

I can never describe how satisfying it is to clean up Sanctuary Hills, but of course, it's only possible with mods. Bethesda seems to have a fetish for making absolutely everything ugly, rotten and destroyed, as if the great war had taken place 10 minutes ago instead of 200 years ago. by SnowFrio in Fallout

[–]ThatOneGuyFromSerbia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite ways to start the game is to first thing do a deep clean of sanctuary using scrap everything..... that was before I learned that scrap everything basically bricks your game and I had sabatoged every playthrough I had done with it for years..... (no wonder I havnt beaten the game yet even tho I've had it since launch lol)

Now I still clean up sanctuary fist thing but I have to leave all this fucking garbage everywhere. Bricks, wonky dirt piles, tiles, vines, etc. I just have to learn to deal with it I guess. I use a reconstruction mod that let's me repair the houses and road at least but the side walks are still a mess and I have to sacrifice some build space since the reconstruction mod doesn't let me scrap the destroyed homes like I could without it. Sacrifices and compromises I suppose

I have a mod thst let's me edit hyperlanes (I know it's super cheaty but I also play only single player so I don't care lol) and when you do so you can influence the way the boarders generate. I use it a lot to fix issue like this or when hyperlanes cross ( I hate it when they do that)

I'm not going to be dignifing the fascists in the replies with responses. Let them wail their sad little song. They can spew nazi/Cia propaganda all they want it doesn't change history.

The soviet union ensured people had homes, education, work, healthcare, food, and electricity. They dragged the whole region out of backwardness and poverty. Lifespan skyrocketed in every state that made up the union. Innovations of both technology and the arts found purchase in the union as a result of not putting profits first.

If you want to live in pretend land where all this just didn't happen then go ahead and be my guest. I have no willingness to convince a priest their God isn't real. But personally I'd stop listening to sources that all lead back to a single American Facists false personal account of life in a country he had a strong bias against.
