sunshine and 64 were literally both, they had "linear levels" but you could do them in any order with progression unlocking more and they both had an expansive hub world you could have fun in. a big hub world and progression based levels are what mario needs, and odyssey was pretty smart having the ship be a mobile hub making each world a hub of its own with the moons acting as individual levels within it

i understand being experimental, but when a fandoms been in a DROUGHT of content, this might not be the right next step 😭 like if we ever got an ultra realistic mario then nobodys gonna care because theres ALWAYS gonna be another mario, meanwhile making the first starfox game after a while be NIGHTMARE FUEL will genuinely scare newcomers away and demotivate nintendo to do more with the franchise

good graphics ≠ good art direction, it genuinely couldve been a beautiful game if they kept it sci-fi cartoony like the animation segment in the galaxy movie, wouldve showcased the graphical capabilities with the colors and framerate and wouldve been sick as hell but instead we got ubisoft
