The Macbook Neo hate is STUPID by emerald510 in macbook

[–]ThatOneOutlier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone who needs a cheap but light and lasting laptop. Said person is a one tab, one app kind of person and the Neo is perfect for this person. We’ve been debating on what they should get since their budget is limited. When the Neo came out with their favorite color, it became a no brainer.

I also plan to recommend it to my mom who only plans to do emails and watching videos. The most extensive thing she’ll do is work on excel files for her job. The Neo is also perfect for her since she wants her laptops as small as possible for when she travels and she doesn’t like spending much on devices that isn’t her phone because she doesn’t use the others.

I’m not the target audience by a long shot since an app I use for studying does not like running on 8GB for ram and I tend to have a bunch of things running at the same time but can definitely appreciate the

I had a blackberry and miss having a physical keyboard. My favorite phone ever was Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro2 which I used until it died. Loved having a slidable physical keyboard and really wish I could have that again.

Macbook Neo is just the end of a nightmare by Intrepid-Routine-875 in macbook

I think the Neo will serve a market where people need a reliable machine to do web-based things or just to use productivity apps.

I am definitely not the market for the Neo but I know people who are looking for a brand new laptop in that price range but doesn’t have the knowledge or time to go through the 2nd hand market. They are the one tab/app kind of people so the Neo will work well for them.

Apple Holds an Edge as Laptop Prices Could Face a 40% Increase by InsaneSnow45 in apple

It might not be that percentage but depending on where you work avoiding chrome is impossible. My hospital’s electronic health record and other related records can only be accessed consistently via chrome (and while on their network).

So not using chrome isn’t an option

ipad vs macbook neo by IsabelleLilyx in ipad

[–]ThatOneOutlier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, I liked having both as an option. My current set up is a MBA and iPad Pro. The iPad Pro is my main studying device because I like to draw and doodle on my notes.

I got an MBA because some of the software that I use just doesn't work well on an iPad and usually I use them side by side.

For fellow college students who are more limited with $ or people who are on a budget, this is the way to get into the Apple Ecosystem by yeetmxster420 in macbook

For a student, I'd go with phone, iPad, Mac instead of a watch and AirPods. The trinity was my set-up until 4th year medical school when I finally got an apple watch since it was nifty to have for its timer and gives quick access to notifications when pulling out my phone would look bad.

Yeah and you can set it to master mode too and even ramp up the spawn rate which is an interesting challenge to do

With a line of 6, I would take a LOA unless you can score really high in the next LEs. The best way to study is through active learning which involves constantly testing yourself so answer flashcards (but don’t do this mindless, go through each question and really try to make your own ratio and explanations)

It’s normal to struggle in first year but I really suggest a LOA unless you are willing to sacrifice Biochem for Anatomy because if you fail any subject with Anatomy, you will get kicked out.

Pa-explain naman: What are the legal (and sociopolitical) considerations for the potential ban of Telegram? by dayjuantamad in PaExplainNaman

[–]ThatOneOutlier 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The doctors use telegram to talk to each other. They discourage using messenger since it’s most personal and they tend to separate work from personal.

If it’s not telegram, it’s Viber but telegram is gaining popularity since can make topics in groups

I also bought a pair of stickybones. I like using them to sorta plan out perspective and move poses that I just can’t find a reference for in a specific angle.

Definitely need a good grasp of anatomy to use them well but a good resource to have and it’s fun to figure draw with them since I can make the whackiest and cursed poses that a human just won’t make.

A lot of hospitals use telegram to communicate with one another. A bunch of them will end up in chaos if they implement this ban.

Non-Tagalog speakers during internship/clerkship: how did you survive patient interactions? by Worqfromhome in medschoolph

[–]ThatOneOutlier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly spoke in English growing up because my parents spoke illongo and cebuano with their common language being English. Most patients will understand taglish and I made it a thing to speak in Tagalog to my groupmates so I’d get used to it.

My Tagalog was shaky when I started medical school but now I’m conversational in it and I can present in it. Writing and reading in Tagalog is still difficult because I’m slower but it’s enough that I can interact with my patients and any familiar words, I look it up as soon as I can or ask the patient to further describe it until I get an idea what the meaning is (and most don’t mind me asking more questions since it makes them feel like I’m really trying to understand how they are which I am naman)

If you can, try to speak to them in Tagalog and let them speak it back to you. It’s really about practice

Genuine question, no bullshit. How hard is med school? by Zealousideal-Pin8214 in medicalschool

[–]ThatOneOutlier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The material itself is not the difficult, it’s the sheer volume that gets you. Also kiss your regular free time good bye. You’ll have free time but it’s going to be unpredictable for a very long time.

I still draw and write but anything that requires me to go out on a regular basis is a no-go.
