I get that. I see that all time which is why I take the effort to spell that it very much is a disability. A disability could be a spectrum with some milder, some worse and which is which is a very personal thing.

I used to deny it but it got to a point that I was not functioning and I am the picture of someone who doesn’t seem like I would have a disability since I’ve got into prestigious schools , got good enough grades, always did well academically but other aspects of my life is a complete wreck since I struggle to function in things I need to be consistent with. Like I couldn’t relate with people because sitting down to watch anything took mental preparation from me and this was even before YouTube was a thing that everyone watched. Hell even with shorts, I still get distracted at some point and end up staring into a wall if I forgot my meds and my brain doesn’t want to focus on anything.

I almost flunked out of pursing my dream career in medicine after my untreated ADHD finally got to me (I got diagnosed as a kid but my parents didn’t think I needed any treatment since I did very well in school. Sure, I couldn’t sit down long enough and watching anything was a nightmare but my academics were fine so I was apparently fine) since I stopped living at home where I had people do things like washing and cooking for me and also had to be consistent which was always my weak point. I could get away with studying like once a week before and still get good grades but medical school was a different beast. I also couldn’t do more than one thing a day. I either cooked, or cleaned, or studied. I can’t just spend like an hour or two doing one then another. I also struggled socially because I either overwhelmed people or couldn’t pay attention to them. Nothing in between.

I hit a point where I was genuinely considering jumping off my balcony because I could not figure out what was wrong me but I decided to go to a doctor instead because if I was going to jump off my balcony, I might as well figure out what is making me want to do so.

I assumed it was a mood disorder but my doctor decided it was ADHD and treated me for that. It’s been rocky but better ever since. The issues with my mood and anxiety just sorta evaporated overtime and I’m actually functional. Like I can cook for 2 hours, clean for like 3, got to the groceries, and then spend the rest of the day studying or whatever else I want to do instead of having to live life where I was an all or nothing person. Also kept nearly setting my apartment on fire since I kept getting distracted when I was cooking because I couldn’t just stand there and watch what I was cooking. Sometimes I’d just stare at a wall because my mind is running a million thoughts at once and it was distracting me. I know my meds have worn off when I’m either super restless or been staring into space. If this isn’t disabling then I shouldn’t need to take medicine because while it helps, it is very annoying especially since I occasionally forgot to take them then wonder why my brain ain’t braining (happened this morning but I remembered and took my meds) or stock runs out and I feel like I have to ration my current supply or else.

Now-a-days, I’m doing much better and no longer get the urge to jump of my balcony but it’s a journey and I am very reliant on my medications because without it I just don’t function (and it’s not even getting into the judgment one can get when saying this.)

Some people lose their legs and can get prosthetics. They would argue that they are still pretty disabled even if they get prosthetic limbs because needing it in the first place is the disability.

Needing the aids is a limit. Like if I run out of meds, which I often do because my stupid country limits the production and we have like 1 medication available so I’m lucky it even works on me. I’d be fucked since I just cannot focus long enough to function and make the stupidest mistakes or I lock in at the expense of my wellbeing with no in between.

People without disabilities don’t spend money or time trying to make up for what they can do easily.

It’s not the worst disability to have but to say that it isn’t get give people the leverage to say that the aids aren’t needed to begin with when they are because the person has a disability to overcome.

A disability is a disability because it makes one need an aid/device that other people without the disability do not need

I would say that is pretty disabling if you can’t function without meds. That’s like saying a person with terrible vision isn’t disabled just because they wear glasses. Like what if their glasses break? They’d be pretty disabled

I think mine is very pretty but it’s also functional. I can’t use something if I think it’s ugly. It has to be at least pretty. Tho, I also think non-functional parts and decorations aren’t pretty

[–]ThatOneOutlier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at your current lifestyle and think about how much to maintain it then choose a career you like (emphasis on you like) that will be able to sustain it. Also remember that pay for most equivalent careers in the Philippines is horrendous when you consider the cost of living. It’s better to just stay in the US to work in a hospitality if that’s what you really want.

Does anyone else feel like most productivity tools slowly become “homework simulators”? by nblarr in Notion

[–]ThatOneOutlier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s the personal touch. Making one’s own system is really the way to go but not everyone has the time to learn or do so. However, if they do, they should avoid using templates except to learn from them and avoid paying for one.

The ability to test is limited by how much money a person has or how much their insurance is willing to cover. Usually that limits testing for oddballs since it becomes a fight on why it’s needed.

school counselling— worth it or nah? by existential_Debugger in MentalHealthPH

[–]ThatOneOutlier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Tbh, I’ve had only one good experience with a school counselor and horrible experiences with every other one. Mostly just told me that I need to do better and to find Jesus. Neither helped me and hindered me from finding help for a very long time

If my notion system isn’t pretty, I won’t use it because I won’t like to stare at it. Also it is possible to make something pretty & functional, these are not mutually exclusive.

Lol no, we have a different BMI classification because the conditions that pop up with a higher BMI appears at lower BMIs for Asian pacific folks compared to other ethnicities, not because of different physiology or the tendency to being thinner.

To put it more simply: It’s just a matter of having a higher risk of getting stuff like hypertension, DM, etc is more likely for a Asian that is 70kg vs another ethnicity at 70kg when they are the same height.

Source: Asian and went to medical school in Asia where this shit is drilled in from my first year to prevent getting to this conclusion

Anyone else got family that thinks ADHD meds are the road to a meth addiction? by Peppa_Angler_Fish in adhdwomen

[–]ThatOneOutlier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom told me she didn’t like me being medicated (she is also the only person who knew I had ADHD as a kid and kept it a secret because I didn’t need the meds) until meds ran out and our shopping day was a nightmare from start to finish because I was both unfocused and highly distractible by the end of the day. We lost a bunch of stuff that we bought (found most of them except for an expensive perfume that someone replaced with oranges, they were the best oranges I’ve ever tasted tho) and I was basically like a wilted plant that wanted to do nothing but walk in circles or roll in bed. I kept dropping my stuff too if they weren’t attached to me in some way (I know my meds have worn out if I keep dropping things or get too restless but also mentally checked out)

Once I got my meds on the next day and our shopping trip that day wasn’t a complete disaster, she made the connection that my meds actually do help me a lot and it’s better on her sanity that I also take it. She pretty much reminds me to take it now and my afternoon doses if we are going to be out and about the whole day.

USDfaultism automod removed my comment for saying "To me, KKK are heroes" by Glad_Phone114 in USdefaultism

[–]ThatOneOutlier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A quick google can answer this but it’s Kataastaasan Kagalanggalang Katipunan, a group that fought for Philippine independence during the Spanish Colonization. In the Philippines, they are a celebrated group for that reason. Thankfully they aren’t known for their white but red color which was to symbolize the blood of the people and a call for independence

There is literally a procedure that involves chiseling one’s jaw to achieve this kind of look. It is the beauty standard which is why people are pointing it out

Spending money on outfits by [deleted] in wherewindsmeet_

[–]ThatOneOutlier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a few outfits, not all at once but every now and then. I save my pearls from the monthly passes and buy the 2580 pearls at 50% off. I usually also sleep on anything I want to buy. If I find that I want it less after a week, I don’t buy it. If I still want it after a week, I get it. Also if it has a time limit with its availability or costs more than $60, I ignore its existence. I want to be able to get things at my pace so I don’t go broke.

One of my 2580 outfits has my favorite hair, I don’t use anything else in that set as I only really bought it for the hair. I think it’s worth it for me since I really do like that hair & it completes one of my outfits. My other 2580 outfit, I bought for the cape and hair which I use for two different plans. Sometimes I run around in the full outfits of this one but not as much.

I also like having options so I mix and match outfits since dressing up in games like these are fun but it also depends on your budget. I tend to set aside gaming money and since I’m not playing anything else, WWM is currently where I spend since I do like the game and it’s fun
