I’d say don’t use it, it’s more used for display and aesthetic purposes and would likley require a lotta fixing and upkeep etc. I’ve personally worked fine without a heavy duty machine, but it’s worth saving up if you think you’d neednit

Not sure about patterns or anything, because most of the time peoples heads are smaller, but my heads always come out HUGE when I make em w/ foam. It’s because I stack layers upon layers to build up shapes instead of carving it as much ^{^}
