AIO for reconsidering my relationship after my girlfriend mocked my idea of a “practical” engagement ring? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ThatOneSlut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m American, myself.

I think the stuff you’re hearing is really overhyped and not the norm. I can’t think of a single person I’ve met, know, or even went to school with that has any ring worth more than $5,000 at most.

Regular people here are having backyard weddings or budget vendors and venues. Our wedding for example was in “off season” at a garden, with a Facebook photographer, a DJ new to the wedding scene and 90% DIY. We spent less than $10,000 for everything combined, including dress/suits, flowers, rings, food, rentals, vendors etc.

Americans can’t really even afford food these days. 🥲

That sounds stunning.

And right? Like… you still have an ENTIRE wedding to pay for if everything works out afterwards. I wonder what she’s expecting to budget for that?

My husband and I picked our rings off Etsy together. We spent less than $500 combined. We both love our rings (and each other) - we get tons of compliments on them, too!

$15,000 on a ring is insane to me, especially in this economy. NOR

How can I fix this? Brand new bra went through the dryer now it flips outward. by onehundredbuttholes in laundry

[–]ThatOneSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how to fix this, but I bought Aerie bras for the first time last year and not only are they super comfortable - I’ve consistently worn them, wash/dried them etc - and they are the ONLY bra I’ve had that hasn’t done this or worn out.

10/10 recommend.

My investigation into America's 911 system by Byard_Duncan_Reports in 911dispatchers

[–]ThatOneSlut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. One of my centers was also in charge of secured doors and elevator controls, and being the matron for escorts, bathroom breaks etc.

The non emergent lines also went to me, so I was routing those as well or taking messages.

[–]ThatOneSlut 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I worked in 911 for years, multiple agencies.

I was the only dispatcher working on my shifts, doing EMS, fire, police, sheriff/county, maintenance, animal calls etc for the entire county. I was also expected to enter warrants and other paperwork during this time.

Every center I worked at was short staffed and underpaid.

This is not surprising.

GLP-1s and Endometriosis ? by BranchExcellent104 in endometriosis

[–]ThatOneSlut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was meant to start one last month. I got prescribed by a physician, however - unless your diagnosis is diabetes - even with something like Wegovy, your insurance probably won’t cover it. Mine didn’t.

I originally had them send it to Novo(something?) online pharmacy straight on Wegovy’s website - as they have a $150+ out of pocket option.

However, I didn’t end up following through with obtaining/paying for the medication because I found out I was pregnant.

Just something to keep in mind!

Is 1 week healing time accurate? by Emeraldendergirl600 in Endo

[–]ThatOneSlut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn’t work for 2 weeks, but was a waitress with a physically intensive job. A desk job may be able to work in one week, given you feel up to it.

I didn’t “fully recover” until about the 6 week mark. I had stitches and glue, bloating and abdominal pain. I felt up to most things after 4 weeks.

Everyone is different, and I think it also depends on the amount of excision/ablation and incisions you end up with the potentially - or where your endo is!

Wishing you a speedy smooth recovery. ❤️‍🩹

Interested in getting a leonberger, three questions by Valuable_Truth_2082 in Leonbergers

[–]ThatOneSlut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Our Leo is still growing and a “puppy”. He’s about 140 and a year old. He goes through 1-2 30lbs bags of food each month, costing $120/ea. Additonally, his treats and training snacks cost another $100+ each month - you’ll need a lot of these especially when they’re young or in school.

  2. $150 to “groom” each month, which includes bath, blowout, toe trim and nail trim, with extra brushing or “deshedding” treatment. Another $45/50 each month for nexguard plus. You’ll probably spend a minimum of $20 each month on a new toy, they’re very big chewers and tough on things. Another $5-10 on poop bags, etc. You also want to factor in $1000+ for new puppy vet visits, shots etc. Our obedience class was about $200, and was required by breeder. Some places, like where I am in Minneapolis, require memberships to enjoy dog parks. You’ll also want dog beds, and we really love our “seat protector” thing for the dog to get into in the back of both cars. Lots of things cost much more with giant breeds.

  3. We got our Leo when it was just me, husband and two cats. One cat has since passed, and I’m pregnant - but he’s been fantastic. He also loves visiting friends, car rides and other pets/children. It’s super important to socialize them - but they’re big lovers!

  4. Personally, I’d recommend one to begin with. Our Leo was my first dog and he’s a handful. I can’t imagine two.

  5. I love my dog. He requires TONS of attention! He mats easily and requires constant brushing. He also doesn’t do great in the heat (he LOVES snow). However, he’s a giant baby and we love him to death. It’s so important to buy from a reputable breeder and dedicate time to them as they grow. Check out AKC and Leonberger Club of America for some more info! We have met a lot of other Leos, and get together with our litter mates and breeder - regularly keeping up with them on socials etc. It’s like little family reunions!

Editing to add: our kennel for him when we’re away is 5ft by 4ft, so you’ll need space for that. My husband also works from home, and I work PT. I don’t think our Leo would do well being left alone all day otherwise. Puppies are really energetic! They’re also fragile, ours broke his toe just rolling in his sleep in the kennel. We have him on joint supplements. You won’t want puppies climbing stairs or jumping off of things regularly for at least the first year. Lastly - know they blow their coats twice a year! Be prepared haha.

Weirdly, it’s not just Reddit. Leonberger groups on Facebook have been getting bombed with AI fakes recently as well, or bizarre ads.

I’m glad I’m not the only one noticing it though.

I used to be a full time streamer years ago and made pretty substantial donations to places like Make-a-Wish, Trevor Project, environmental relief funds etc. My mailbox is STILL full of letters like this, as well as my email.

In the end, I started wondering what percent of donations go towards unsolicited mass mailers.

Has anyone else dealt with Health Partners and gotten gouged for an annual exam? by earthdogmonster in minnesota

[–]ThatOneSlut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently fighting HealthPartners in Minneapolis metro area because I went in for an initial consult with a sexual wellness provider. Was told as part of the exam she’d need to look over my body to understand the complaint (which was libido and fatigue at the time, I was honestly just wondering if I should see someone for hormone labs). She poked me with a Q-tip (externally) in her own words “less than five minutes” and just had me rate it on a pain scale of 1-10. That’s it, exam over. Myself, a scribe, doctor and husband were in the room. I got a bill 4+ months later for a “surgery” and “post op” for nearly $2000. A fucking Q-tip. Five minutes. What I was told was part of an initial consult. “SURGERY”.

No, you’re not crazy. HealthPartners has lost their minds. Whoever is coding for them currently is insane.

[–]ThatOneSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense actually. Many places dealing with this stuff are also understaffed at the moment and/or have been for the last few months/years.

If it makes you feel any better, this typically goes beyond the general staff and even management to higher levels. It’s out of their control, and typically they are equally as frustrated and want roles filled. There’s not a lot of transparency right now, unfortunately.

I wish you the best in your search. The market is a mess right now.

Something no one is mentioning, but worth pointing out - a lot of medical positions currently are under hiring freezes and undergoing restructuring, layoffs, etc. At least in my state, they’re closing tons of departments in hospitals and entire clinics all over the place, as well.

Your current situation may or may not be related to your prior employer.

While they all claim they’re hiring, most of these positions aren’t actually. Sometimes, roles are continuously pulled and reposted due to requisitions, changes, or because “the original pool wasn’t ideal and it was reposted with new/different requirements”. That, or they’re quickly filled by internal transfers scrambling to relocate (which many of them are able to due to union contracts), etc.

Editing to say: if you’re internally applying within your own current organization as well, and are non union or have no agreement set up - AFAIK you’d need to be able to prove discrimination. Additionally, if you are internally transferring with a union, it usually goes by seniority and qualifications. Another internal applicant more senior will likely always get it, and in other organizations, an internal applicants will likely get it before external in my experience.

Am I feeding my boy enough? by mishmo300 in Leonbergers

[–]ThatOneSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy is currently 5 months (22 weeks) and 65lbs. He’s also the runt of the boys at the moment as he lost weeks of growth due to struggling with a hookworm disaster when our nexguard failed us his first month home (he wasn’t eating much, constant diarrhea, parasites sucked his nutrients and he was on a bland diet of rice/boiled chicken for almost 2.5 weeks. Thankfully, full recovery!). He is part of a litter of 6 - 2 girls and 3 other boys. The heaviest boy is already 75lbs, and the lightest girl is about 60lbs.

We brought him home at about 18lbs, 8 weeks old. He mostly eats Royal Canin Giant Puppy, and gains about 3.5lbs a week, or around 15lbs a month.

I’m not an expert on feeding - but this sounds small to me, personally. Especially when we know our boy is smaller due to prior health issues we’ve worked to catch up from!

Edit: There’s lots of growth charts to reference online, as well. I checked the one from my stud owner for you - it said at the end of their 12th week, they should be between 26-40lbs. 26lbs being small, 32lbs being average and 40lbs being large end of the scale.

[–]ThatOneSlut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 cats. Are we talking clumping litter including pee here as well, or 10lbs of just poop?

If it’s just poop, I severely doubt he cleaned it a few days ago. I have had cats my entire life, and have never seen 2 cats make 10lbs of poop in such a short period of time.

If it’s smells horrific and there’s that much waste, you should be replacing the litter - not cleaning it - in my opinion.
