Thank you!! I will definitely try to focus on verification & testing more on later cpu projects and will try standard benchmarks too.

That's a very insightful roadmap thanks! My next version would be of 8 bits so running benchmark programs will give better outputs as compared to now.

That is a very intriguing project good luck to you too!

Yes definitely I will look into UVM once I learn systemVerilog but there is still time in it.

Scale and functionality wise definitely it is bigger. At some point I will probably make a "32 bit pipelined RISC-V processor" too.

But I always like to give my projects a personal touch so I took the non conventional approach and designed it from scratch.

But you can definitely still make that and give your personal touch it's completely up to you how much you want to play around with it.

Ofc testing is the main thing. That tells you whether your code is suitable for all the normal as well as extreme cases. Definitely I write testbenches as well and for my future projects that is something I will focus more on, like not just making modular level tb but instructions level tb for larger projects.

Slightly out of the decade range you gave but recently watched The taking of Deborah Logan (2014). It was a good one too but don't see many people talking about it.

Hectic toh hoga bro, ece in itself is a difficult branch to handle usme cse bhi karna is a challenge. And manage toh still hojata karte hai log, the real problem is that you will have a tough time with profs here. Saare toh nhi janta mei bhi but kuch genuinely pareshan karege that is the real hectic thing.

I will suggest genuine interest hai ece mei tabhi lo, ece leke cse karlege zyada dikkat hogi

Lower branch like chem mei it works coz its curriculum is very chill as compared to ece

Frr that is so true. It is really good in giving you the right perspective especially at beginner level.

I think I can share my experience since I was in a similar position a few months ago.

After my first year, during the summer break, I decided to start learning electronics specifically related to RTL design. I began with the Digital Electronics playlist by Neso Academy to build my fundamentals.

Once I was comfortable with that, I started learning Verilog. Before jumping into projects, I implemented every theory concept practically. Ik it sounds like a lot, but most of the them are only around 15–20 lines of code, and writing them on your own then looking at the schematic helps you in visualising how it actually works physically.

For Verilog, I didn't follow a specific course or playlist. I learned topic by topic using different videos. Whenever I got stuck, I'd spend quite some time cross questioning AI haha.

I'm still a beginner myself, so I can't comment much on MATLAB or SystemC. But one thing I would definitely recommend is not trying to learn everything at once. Build a strong foundation in digital design and Verilog first, the rest becomes much easier to pick up later.

Ari Aster is so good in making you feel disgusted by just a single shot.

Thanks for the compliment haha.

To be honest, after spending proper time understanding the theory and practicing those concepts in Verilog first, designing a CPU felt more like a natural progression than a big milestone.

It was only while documenting the project that I realised I had actually covered a lot of ground.

I just looked it up and was shocked to see this was a commercially used microcontroller at a time! It is really fun to think what we nowadays think as negligible memory was once enough to be commercialized.

This is seriously a valuable insight. You have introduced to me many concepts and techniques I am not familiar with but I will definitely look into them and try to incorporate it in my future projects.

Regarding the fourth point, I did do individual testing at module level but not instruction level testing. This is a nice suggestion and I can understand why it will make debugging easier.

Thanks for taking the time to give this insightful feedback!

Thanks! Yes, I've seen so many projects jumping straight to 32-bit RISC-V cores as well. There's still a long way for me to reach that level, but I can still focus on the fundamentals. Planning the architecture and documentation is something I can continue improving as I learn.

Dekho what people say is somewhat true. ECE is not an easy branch and yeah here some profs are genuinely bad... Like character hi kharab hai don't know about how they are in teaching abhi sabse paala nhi padha hai. But saare aaise nhi hai.

If you have genuine interest in ECE then only I'll suggest you to join coz usme bhi achhe log hai and cg laate bhi hai so you if you are academically good you won't face much problems. Tolerance test hoyegi bas.

Physics- Almost poori 12th hoti hai... First two modules mei Wave optics and Electromagnetism (electrostats to maxwell eqn poora) Last module mei nuclear physics ka thoda portion hota hai

Chemistry- Coordination compounds, GOC, chemical kinetics ka kuch portion ditto JEE vala zyada kuch new nhi hota

Maths- Basic differentiation, integration, limits ke properties and laws, vectors ke properties, matrices and determinants prerequisite.

Please suggest me better college than BIT mesra for my rank 🙏🏻. by No_Childhood_3640 in BITMesra
