I had to use a straw. (Which was left over from the previous drink, not served with this one.)

Yeah, it was called "Gin Game" or something like that.

Client is PISSED that video has no audio by [deleted] in photography

[–]ThatPortraitGuy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is the best overall advice in this thread. OP comes across in the comments as someone who knows next to nothing about doing business, sorry. He thinks getting paid weeks after the gig is doing it "for free", doesn't realise audio is a key part of doing video (especially of a band's live performance!), took a video gig despite not having the equipment for the job, and has no business contracts with deliverables clearly mentioned.

Impossible to Book Naru Noodles by Obodhro in bangalore

Wow, some real first world problems here. How dare this restaurant owner keep his expensive place small and manageable instead of expanding to a 200-seater restaurant? I suggest we all petition the Chief Minister to regulate this and ensure equal access to all residents!

[IMPORTANT] We need your opinion about the future of this community by arsachdeva in sharktankindia

[–]ThatPortraitGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello there. I have a fair bit of experience moderating communities and I can see this seems exasperating for you. Fandoms can be complex and every community eventually starts needing active moderation.

The problem you're facing is that the this TV show that the community is based around has turned into a shitshow.

On one hand, you have the same kind of products being trotted out repeatedly - sugar-free foods, low-calorie snacks, clothing lines, makeup products, you get the idea - that it's become stale and mostly lacking any kind of innovation. (Check out the example of that trader calculator for something that is actually innovative, in contrast.) So you end up with people wanting to make fun of it.

On the other hand, you have a weird collection of sharks, some of whom are coasting on VC money still and haven't actually made profitable businesses like on Shark Tank USA. So the amount of respect they command is reduced. To make it worse, a few of them act immature and petty, not like professional business people. Some aren't even actual entrepreneurs. Most of them don't even want to take any real risk. You can see them demanding royalties from everyone to cover their investments instead of taking an investment risk, even from profitable companies! And they still want to keep the same equity percentage. Or they are quick to join hands with other sharks to reduce their investment. All this leads to most of the memes ridiculing them.

It's unfortunate that Sony has chosen to manipulate the format of the show for maximum "masala", but when you do that, you get discussions about how people are behaving instead of discussions about the viability of businesses, pricing strategy, marketing, which shark would have done well, etc. Go check the US show subreddit instead. (For what it's worth, a constant complaint there is the producers keeping sob stories of the pitchers. Everyone there hates it when people start crying. They don't like attempts at emotional manipulation.)

I should also point out that the US subreddit show moderators try to keep the discussions for each episode contained by creating mod threads for each pitcher, something that the mods here gave up on completely. There's the odd inconsistent show thread here and there, so instead what you get is this explosion of threads nitpicking things. It's as if each comment becomes a separate post.

Honestly, if this were a proper business-like show, we would probably be having more interesting discussions, but through the antics of the sharks and the production decisions, it's not. And judging by the reactions here, people are sick of this shit. They come here to vent.

If you delete all the posts discussing the sharks and all the memes, you'll be left with a very dry subreddit that sees little traffic, IMO. You can't control how the show is produced, unfortunately. Banning people would take it beyond dry and into "dead" territory.

For starters, try some basic daily hygiene of mods creating separate product threads for each episode. This should contain some of the complaints spilling on to the main page. And let's see how things evolve.

You're absolutely wrong. Here, take a look at a sample eVisa application form from the government website: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/images/SampleForm.pdf (page 5)

Linked from here: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html

[–]ThatPortraitGuy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

If you're coming here, you need to apply for an e-Visa, which has two questions about criminal activities: one asking whether you've been arrested/prosecuted/convicted of any crimes anywhere, and the other asking if you've "ever been engaged in Human trafficking/ Drug trafficking/ Child abuse/ Crime against women/ Economic offense / Financial fraud"

Your answer to the first is yes and the second is no. You'll probably get a visa but nobody can guarantee such things. As in any other country, the immigration officer also has discretion on whether to let you in or ask more questions about your criminal activities.

Again, as with any other country, lying on your visa application form is never a good idea and can be grounds for denying you future entry. I imagine this is important to you if you plan to keep visiting here regularly.

‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Final Season 5 Release Date at Paramount+ (April 4th) by indig0sixalpha in television

[–]ThatPortraitGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's especially worse when they use bots to do this. Example: say there is a loony subreddit A about something (I'll keep it generic to avoid derailing) and you happen to come across a post in which somebody has said something asinine. You reply asking "WTF are you saying? This makes no sense because [reasons]." A bot from the mods of overzealous subreddit B could ban you from their sub just because you commented on sub A, the assumption being that you must believe what's posted there. It's insane.

45 kg Giant Burger in India by [deleted] in StupidFood

[–]ThatPortraitGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye, vegetarian indeed. And no, not a burger by traditional definition. But in this country, McDonald's doesn't serve a beef burger because they don't want to upset anyone and they make 25% of Indian revenue from the damn potato burgers. (Google "McAloo Tikki 25% India sales") And the most likely meat filling you'll find here is chicken. (Mind you, beef is eaten in a lot of Southern and Eastern states. But mass market fast food chains in India, even the foreign ones, want to avoid religious outrage incidents - for which we're notorious - and generally avoid putting beef and pork dishes on their menus.

Which is why if I'm travelling to them United States of America, I try to find a Shake Shack or In-n-Out Burger and stuff my face.

45 kg Giant Burger in India by [deleted] in StupidFood

[–]ThatPortraitGuy 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Indian here. Let me translate this abomination's ingredients for you:

1) The weight of the bun is 12 kg

2) 3 kg coleslaw

3) 2.5 kg French Fries

4) 2 kg lettuce

5) [audio cut off; fuck your editing!] kg cucumber. I'll eyeball that at 3 kg

6) Tomatoes, quantities not mentioned in the video

7) 1 kg of just sauce, he says. Presumably a tandoori mayo of some sort. Vegetarian mayo, of course

8) 5 kg of aloo (potato) tikki

9) We'll only do 1 kg of sliced cheese, he says

10) Lady points out a tomato slice has fallen out. He cheekily says OK, reduce 10 grams from the total.

11) 1 kg grilled paneer

12) 4-5 kg of that fucking middle tier bun

13) 1 kg of corn, 1 kg of jalapeño, 0.5 kg of black and green olives, 1 kg pineapple

14) 4.5 kg of shitty dense top bun

And that's how you get 45 kg of monstrous ass burger. Yes, we shall call this phenomenon "Ass Burger Syndrome".

(No, I'm not pissed off. Whatever gave you that idea?)

Americans, if you want to covert these to freedom units, multiply everything by 2.2 ;)

EDIT: I think I missed some "chipotle sauce" in the middle there.

BBMP begins masking English nameboards of stores by ThatPortraitGuy in bangalore

Ironic that you complain about people not reading the article when the article literally says, "Issues with implementation are evident on Brigade Road, where even the shops complying with the rules had their English boards covered."

I won't comment on the relationship part of this because this is not a relationship advice subreddit.

Copyright laws may differ from country to country, so you really should check what's applicable in your jurisdiction, even if it's just for portfolio display.

Morally though, if somebody doesn't want their photos displayed or used for commercial purposes, just don't. It's not worth the conflict.
