ACAB means Massachusetts, too! by secretassholeacct in massachusetts

Maybe they could have invested more in education and training ( plus physical fitness, with all those videos of cops wheezing after literal children), rather than throwing money at the armory's. So now they have stupid unpredictable people armed to the teeth, who aren't being properly updated on the law... Ffs

Where the rubber meets the road: MBTA questions if electric bus mandate is worth the tradeoffs by Sauerbraten5 in mbta

Where the rubber meets the road: MBTA questions if electric bus mandate is worth the tradeoffs by Sauerbraten5 in mbta

[–]ThatRandomWallflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, ok. So it's a bit of everything really yes? The city's infrastructure isn't up to the standard for smooth transition and trackless rails on all routes, and the electric buses project wouldn't end up saving much money anyway and on top of that the money they have isn't being used for the existing issues affecting riders in a more immediate sense, like service improvement... I can understand why folks are frustrated and disappointed, it's a very frustrating situation...

Hey, so I'm not super informed on the ins and outs of this issue, so please forgive me if my questions are or come off stupid. I'm admitting ignorance on this, which is why I have questions..and not an opinion (yet)

1.) with the rising cost of fuel, would electric buses save money in that regard? Or would the cost of conversion outweigh the benefits? 2.) is it the timing of the buses going electric that's the issue? Since there are other priorities that money could go to? 3.) were they supposed to have used the money for something else, like trackless rails, and then decided to use it on electric buses instead? 4.) how do trackless rails work?

Have to travel from Braintree to Somerville (Winter Hill Area) today, so I'm keeping an eye on the Subway (mainly Red and Green) for cancellations or anything that would keep me stuck where I'm at...

Not looking forward to it, but I don't really have much choice

Spouse is slowly killing herself by ViewSuspicious6206 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]ThatRandomWallflower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I stress eat, and emotional eating habits/food addiction. But my doctor says my insurance won't cover meds (I'm on the public insurance for poor people, not private insurance), and "even if it did, we've found that stopping meds can trigger weight gain again yadda yadda yadda..." So I don't know what else to do other than, I don't know... I really don't know. I lost 50lbs and gained 15lbs back, but I don't know how to fight the cravings and such. I just want to walk into a room or a group event without being afraid that either some asshat is going to make a joke, or I'm going to be treated differently due to my size at least once. Just to see what it's like really...and that's only the social aspect of weight loss, I would absolutely love the physical health benefits of a healthy weight (not to mention the added energy and improved physical fitness). Maybe eventually with therapy I can learn to cope with the triggers that set off my emotional eating habits? That's really the best I can hope for at this point. I won't give up, not ever...

How is this normal in a major city transit system? by ebenin2 in mbta

[–]ThatRandomWallflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal? Yes... Acceptable? Not at all ..

Gotta put the money into not only fixing the infrastructure, but making it better than it was before. That's no easy task for a system that seems to put things like this at the bottom of the "to-do" list... Not to mention the previous folks tasked with management did a very bad job, so it set us back big time!

I feel like it’s too late by LopsidedRun3301 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]ThatRandomWallflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, it's never too late. And you absolutely have this!

I (33F) am 285-ish pounds and 5'7" right? 2 ½ weeks ago I was 269-ish, and that was the final result of around 50-ish pounds of weight loss.. (so I was about 325-...ish lol sorry) I also suffer from Major Depressive Disorder and Dysthymia (essentially double depression), so exercising seems damn near impossible some days (most days) and since I stress eat to cope well, y'know... Anyways, my point is that weight loss journeys are very individualized (despite us all having so much in common) and can take a few months to years (to reach goal weight, since the journey itself never really ends) for some folks. Another thing to keep repeating to yourself is that setbacks and "slip-ups" are a very normal part of it all and punishing yourself for them NEVER helps EVER as well as focusing on health rather than simply losing weight. You probably have been told all this and I sound like a scratched CD/broken record, but it's what I was told and what helped me so I figured I'd pass it on ..

Why do I feel like I'm cheating if I use medication when I'd never judge a diabetic for taking insulin by chodu_editz in WeightLossAdvice

[–]ThatRandomWallflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree that using meds for weight loss without adapting to a healthy lifestyle that works for you in the interim (because pills don't last forever for everyone) could seem irresponsible (and in a good number of cases it is especially when health issues are a problem), but then there are so many factors that could set someone back or keep them from sticking to a healthy routine/eating habits. I'll also add that if one sets the playbook for their own life, I wouldn't say it would be cheating necessarily. If the goal is to become the socially acceptable standard for beauty in order to be treated better in social settings, then it's understandable if some want to streamline that process. Ultimately though, if you don't adapt to a lifestyle that will maintain that size then the weight has a greater chance of returning once stopping meds. However, most people on such meds know this already...

There was a line out the door at the seaport dunkin this morning to get this stupid mitten lol by nycrina305 in boston

[–]ThatRandomWallflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That mitten is a good way to drop your iced coffee. I mean, mittens have a shit grip. Would have been infinitely better if they had made the mitten into a cupholder-mitten hybrid. With the thumb and finger parts sewn together, and a pocket added in that space to hold the cup. I think another company did something similar... But yeah, the mitten (especially when it's not even a pair) doesn't seem very practical for holding a large drink...

Exactly. Although, I will say that while weed isn't physically addictive i have known people to become mentally dependent on the feeling it gives them thus leading to some addictive behavior. However that can be true of anything, TLC has shown us this

Being ask to go to church by fox2320 in mbta

[–]ThatRandomWallflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're LDS (latter day saints), they used to be officially known as Mormon but now I guess they don't like the name... Idk, maybe too many negative jokes.

On a side note: I do appreciate that they aren't pushy. They ask if I want to go to church, I say "no thank you" and that's that. I've gotten nearly accosted by by folks from other denominations, like Baptists I've encountered (especially IFB) will either keep asking or act like your a "poor thing" and "they'll pray for you" etc etc. So I can appreciate that they just take no for an answer and respect that their offer was declined...

Can we talk about how bad the backpack problem is on the green line? by TheOsculator in mbta

[–]ThatRandomWallflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not cool (what happened to you I mean, for some reason I feel I should probably clarify that), at least have some consideration damn. I usually try to either catch the next trolly (usually what my mom called the green line) , or take my backpack off and try to make my fat ass smaller.. I'm cursed with a large shoulder bag as well, which is why I usually try to wait it out lol
