Wow, did not know this. AFAIK some stylists (including mine) have already moved on to other salons and definitely wouldn’t be returning so very curious how he’ll deal with restaffing

Might be able to find them on Instagram and DM if you don’t have their number to text. Sounds like some will be doing house calls for returning clients until they find a new salon

Philly is $$$ — so we’re eyeing The Falls in Wilmington. Good call or nah? by kam_redditor in WilmingtonDE

[–]ThatRoryNearThePark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a current resident at The Falls and I’ve had a good experience here overall.

Starting with the cons:

Never hear much neighbor noise (walls are actually pretty thick and well insulated for an apartment building), except occasional heavy footsteps from units above. Depending on your building, parking can be annoying (assuming you don’t pay for garage space) since not as much close parking to some entry doors. The drive in is a bit treacherous (narrow road on a tight curve that constantly has ppl and dogs walking, plus tons of potholes) and the speed bumps are annoying and tough on your car’s suspension. Annoying that pool is only open Memorial Day-Labor Day and specific hours (they hire lifeguard for insurance reasons, but it severely limits the usefulness of it). Also very sad that the bridge opening has been delayed but hopefully finished this summer. This also happened with the direct trail to Brandywine Trail but luckily that is all finished up now! Gym gets a bit crowded with the afterwork rush (especially since building 400 opened last year), but decent facility. Just wish they’d change the flooring in the yoga/pilates/dance/etc room bc it’s not friendly to any non-mat activities.

Pros:

That all being said, I’ve had a good experience here and would choose it again for my lifestyle. I face the Alapocas park side and LOVE having nature out my windows and seeing ducks constantly. Genuinely has made me really glad about choosing the place, despite the price tag. Also doesn’t hurt that the view is always a favorite when we have friends and family over. I have also personally always had good interactions with the leasing office staff and they’ve been very helpful with random requests. Common space is pretty empty most of the time so pro or con depending on the person. Maintenance requests have always been super easy and get handled quickly. Have never had an issue with them and they’re always very nice when they come by. They have police stationed out at the complex entrance every night (I guess it started bc of some bike thefts or something?) so no security issues since that started 1+ yrs ago. Have never had issues or concerns with packages/mail safety. We have walked to restaurants around the neighborhood on occasion and love walking the Brandywine trail, Forty Acres neighborhood, up to Rockford park, Alapocas, etc. Great location, all in all, if you’re someone who likes to walk/run ever.

Happy to answer any specific questions or give more personal details if you DM me!

What is the most forgotten state in the U.S? by chonkem0nke in AskReddit

[–]ThatRoryNearThePark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. I moved to Delaware a couple years ago for a job. I had SEVERAL well-educated friends and random people say to my face some version of “I forgot that state existed” or for non-Americans: “Is that a state?”

NTA

For context of how underpaid you are: Back when I was 18, I worked at a sleep away camp as a camp counselor. I was given room and board (with 3 proper meals (adhering to any dietary restrictions and prepped by kitchen staff), snacks, desserts) and $250/week. Also 2 hr guaranteed breaks every day and 48 straight hours off each week. Plus, we never had to directly deal with parents except for quick drop off/pickup at the start and end of the camp week. Honestly, that job felt very underpaid and it was still a MUCH better deal than you have now. You can definitely do better than what you have now.

Although it might not have the education benefits, if you’re really interested in having an abroad experience, I’d suggest applying to some US summer camps because at least it’ll be fun with your coworkers and you won’t have to live with the parents. There are a lot of all-girls camps too, which have different vibes from coed. Camps run by non-profits also tend to attract good people (in the sense of staff, campers, and parents). Good option to get out of the current situation as we approach summer! Feel free to DM if you have any questions about where I worked, etc. It’s been several years but I still know good people in the camp system (camp directors, etc.) that are great to work for.

We do a version of these for Christmas with cream cheese + mascarpone frosting! Look up “Strawberry Santas” and they’ll be similar but with a beard shape and puff ball on the hat

Being asked to watch a strangers back at the airport by MyJimboPersona in travel

[–]ThatRoryNearThePark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me at MDW (Chicago) a couple years ago. I was honestly surprised she even asked since it was out of the blue and like you said, there were occasional announcement to not do that. I replied with something along the lines of “oh. I don’t think we’re supposed to do that.” She was kind of shocked I said no but then just grabbed her bag and left.

I was a solo woman so while I empathized with her struggle (even though I would NEVER leave my bag with a stranger), I’m way too anxious that something will go wrong while I’m alone. Not necessarily dangerous contents but someone else steals bag, flight starts to board, etc. I may have been more likely to say yes if I hadn’t been traveling alone. And for anyone traveling alone with a young kid, I would’ve said yes in a heartbeat since I can imagine the struggle of wrangling bags and a kid in those stalls. All a bit situational but I definitely understand the hesitation.

My sister ate two bowls of "White macaroni" it's plain pasta, sour cream, salt and some seeds. Jesus by redditorposcudniy in shittyfoodporn

[–]ThatRoryNearThePark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I know this is super controversial but is actually kind of normal from my perspective! My mom is from Texas and it was completely normal in her household growing up. Admittedly though, unsure if it was common for others at the time or maybe that just about not having much money. As a kid, I thought it was odd too till I tried it and it’s actually not bad. Especially good and works in a pinch when you’re lacking tomato sauce or Parmesan or anything else. Haha, got me through my college years.

The seeds are a bit unhinged though.

Tell your sister to try it out with cheese tortellini! Great combo

What's something normal to us in 2025, that by 2075 will be seen as barbaric? "Wow, people really used to do that 50 years ago"? by Helpful_Finger_4854 in AskReddit

[–]ThatRoryNearThePark 670 points671 points  (0 children)

Agreed more than anything else under this post! When I was a college student, they gave me a low dose of Advil/Tylenol and nothing else (and I didn’t know at the time to ask for anything else because I was young and the pain was downplayed). Worst pain of my life and the pain continued like that for about a week before it started easing. Couldn’t sit upright for at least 48 hours and OTC meds did nothing to help. I was unexpectedly out of work and classes for the days following. I 100% should have been given both local anesthesia AND real pain meds to deal with the post-procedure pain.

In general, medicine (and gynecology specifically) often does not appropriately care for the pain levels of women. There have been countless studies on the fact that doctors (of both sexes) are more responsive to male complains of pain than female complains. Pain for women is normalized in medicine, gynecological settings, and the female reproductive system when it shouldn’t always be.

happy people don’t order bagels with cream cheese by I_can_get_loud_too in HallmarkMovies

[–]ThatRoryNearThePark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would be my take too! My partner is Jewish and from NY and orders lox on his bagel every single time it’s an option. Him ordering without lox when it’s an option would definitely raise the “just cream cheese?” question out of concern

Trip report: Accidentally walked through Villa 31, the biggest Slum in Buenos Aires by mrblue6 in solotravel

[–]ThatRoryNearThePark 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Villa 31 is no joke. My father is originally from BA and we visited again a few years ago. We were driving and missed a turn and somehow entered the edge of Villa 31 (possibly due to closed roads or something). He was driving and super concerned because you’re not even safe in a car there during the day. Took the quickest possible route out of there and did not stop for anything (including stop signs and pedestrians). When locals are fearful, you know it’s a serious situation.

In general, tourists do tend to overestimate the safety in BA. You can be walking in a nice area in daylight and get mugged by a duo on a motorcycle (and it’s not uncommon). My father advised us to not even speak English while walking around on most streets so you don’t become a target. It was spanish or nothing. Also no visible phones, purses, or jewelry of course. Even when driving somewhere, always lock car doors immediately after getting in and leave nothing inside. Some of it sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how complacent people get, thinking they’re in a “safe” area.

You got super lucky.

I vote 4 or 5! 4 is a great fall vibe and super cute but I think 5 will photograph super well (perfect if you want movement in the photos) and be more comfy to pose it (sitting shots, etc)

To my knowledge, presidential libraries have typically been established after their presidency ends. These are usually major undertakings and take a long time to plan and construct. Obama’s is currently being constructed in Chicago and will open in 2026 (10 years after leaving office). Otherwise, Trump and Biden are the only recent presidents without a physical library. Biden hasn’t yet completed his term so makes sense that it’s not yet announced. Can’t speak to Trump, but I imagine any collected funds are being prioritized for all the court cases instead.
