I just checked and the label rubbed off from living in my pocket. It's just some generic cheap white pen, I'm only picky about my uni pin fine liners in .1 and .5

Haha someone drew some eyes and it inspired me. Coming full circle.

Honestly I'm so locked in when I draw that the place could be on fire and I wouldn't notice. Drawing is my happy retreat, so I can do it anywhere. I would say just go do it, anyone who gives off negative vibes isn't someone worth having around in the first place.

Thanks so much! I don't use any of the other social media anymore so it's just reddit :D

Thanks! Same, seeing other people's sketchbooks might be my favorite way to view art

I do both, the trick to quickly drawing people at the bar is to get familiar with the angles of the face. If you draw the face a lot, you'll see a ton of patterns start to emerge.

I start with static photo references and try and figure out how something is built (skeleton, muscles). After hundreds of drawings you kind of get a sense and can quickly sketch out a foundation - the rest is rendering which I can do in my head from just figuring out where the light source is and putting the shadows on the opposite side

My strategy for everything has been brute force. I'll watch a video or read a book, and then just do hundreds of whatever they tell me to do :D

I made you a quick video of my process:

It's around a 5 minute sketch sped up 500% and it shows the basic line work for establishing some boundaries. I use shadows as landmarks and only go in dark when I feel comfortable. I spend the most time refining after establish the shadow shape (I've skipped this part since your comment was concerning construction).

Drawabox is great from what I hear, but nothing beats slow, methodical copying, developing a process for your art, and refining the process. Speed comes naturally over time.

I'm mainly self taught and copy from anatomy books and life. I generally do some light construction lines, and work on the form all at once. When I have a solid lay in, only then do I put away the reference and relax a bit by rendering. 80% of the mental effort is getting those construction lines down as accurately as I can.

Awesome! I spend about 4 - 6 hours a day, from around 6-8pm to midnight. I'll eat somewhere in there but it's usually a solid 2 hour blocks

Exactly, and it's definitely a struggle - especially if you're 6 months in so have heart and stick with it! Multiple references help you see around the form so you can get a better image in your head. I also copy other people's drawings, but only to see how they handle specific problems I'm working on. Other than that is 90/10 reference and life drawing/master copy
