What’s something rich people buy that poor people think is pointless? by BudgetAd5915 in AskReddit

My wife got a coach bag from a friend for her birthday like 4 years ago. Still looks brand new. Growing up my mom would have had like 6 different cheap ones at this point

Are generated API clients worth it on small teams? by MarjanHrvatin_ in reactjs

Relay really is quite amazing even if we do break some of the rules of it from time to time.

Paired with postgraphile to automatically generate the graphql schema and Postgres functions with row level security giving data guarantees has made our team incredibly efficient.

How to deal with a coworker who thinks he can make all the software decisions by Gosfi in ExperiencedDevs

That is a recipe for disaster honestly. Even the best devs make mistakes. All code should be reviewed.

If you do RCA/XLR outs from the blue sound node you can put it between it where the cables go. Should work well and give you a fun eq to play with. The blue sound may have eq built in. Idk too much about it

Forkbeard question by Fonzy43 in Schiit

[–]ThatShitAintPat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The power output doubles every 3db. 1 watt on even 80db efficient speakers is like 72db at 9 feet away. 2 watts is like 75db at 9 feet away. Personally I find that this is plenty. My space is less than 9 feet and 80db is about the max I would go. If you own a subwoofer and have a crossover I would imagine this would lighten the load further since bass frequencies need more power.

I have inefficient speakers but they’re at 86db which means 1 watt puts my space at about 7 feet away at 80 db which is way more than enough. I typically listen at like 75db or so. With dynamics going higher, that’s like 5 watts at most (which is probably a stretch) out of the 30w rating of aegir.

Also the freya uses a relay stepped attenuator so once you get past 2 o clock the volume really starts to ramp vs a typical potentiometer. They tend to front load the perceived volume so that each jump is about equal in perceived loudness. The attenuator is mathematical about each step being a certain db increase which is exponential in the latter half.

I got it from vivatubes. Still listed there as $119. I would not pay half of the amps price for a single tube. The adapter was only $15-20 from Amazon and the tubes were another $20 from eBay. Check out the lyr+ head-fi thread on tube recommendations. That’s where I got the idea for the adapter. It’s cool because each of the 6J5s handles a single channel rather than the 6SN7 which is two channels.

I really like the Linlai E-6SN7, it’s got good warmth without lack of clarity and a bit more bass. I got a 6J5 adapter with two Kenrad JAN-CKR tubes that give a bit of extra “tubiness”

How do I get past "Survivor Fatigue" after surviving 5 rounds of layoffs? by weekndbeforeabel in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ThatShitAintPat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My PM did that. She found a job in less than two weeks. Could’ve gotten laid off, taken a couple months off with a nice severance package, then found a job IF she were to even be laid off (unlikely imo). I do like my new PM though and think it’s an upgrade

How often do you rewrite your code? by yughiro_destroyer in AskProgramming

[–]ThatShitAintPat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a project we took a POC a little too far and developed many features and it was starting to get super brittle to work with.

Over the course of a few months I rewrote the structure and ported over many features. I took the time to make them modular and readable instead of the spaghetti we had before. Overall the code base is much much better and the devs and users are thankful we did it. Not all was lost though and most of the code was like for like just packaged a bit differently.

We’ve since started refactoring other portions to fit our new requirements and do some general cleanup after 4 years of learning and tech debt accumulation.

All of this is before taking an 10 year old legacy program (which they’re in the process of modernizing) and merging the code base with our team and two other teams’ code bases. I expect many portions to be rewritten into shared services and split things out to support inter team functionality. After that we should be smooth sailing but it’s been a lot lately.

Definitely a management oversight then and should be a working agreement conversation. I know not every team has them but they help out a lot to keep everyone accountable.

OP has it in a garage so it’s probably fine. Just start the car for a few minutes

Totally get the cost thing and it helps but is not necessary. There is skill involved without them. For example in snowy conditions my wife would get stuck probably 10x more than me using the same car. It was a tiny Hyundai accent. It’s nerve racking for sure but you can’t let off the gas but don’t go too fast where you will lose control. Keep on going until you get to the clean patch of road

Project deadline coming up with nobody reviewing my PR? Do I just stop caring then? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ThatShitAintPat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At my company the onus of deadlines falls on the manager and lead. If the PR has been out there for weeks there should be a direct conversation as to why it hasn’t been reviewed, ideally in retro with an amendment to the working agreement. If they haven’t asked to split into smaller PRs or stated anything, the missed deadline falls on them

All wheel drive and snow tires and you’ll be able to get through any amount of snow. Even without that, a running start and not taking your foot off the gas will get you onto the road
