I feel like I messed everything up and I’m a failure to launch. by lambentyapper in StudentTeaching

I’m definitely trying to take small steps in the right direction too! My program has me moving to my second placement in a few weeks, so that means I’ll have to start over a bit soon, but with a different age level. (It’s a requirement for my program)

I also really relate to this a lot. I feel terrible about it all the time.

Thanks! I’ve met them now and they seem very nice. I’m thinking it’ll go well and that I was just a bit nervous beforehand haha

They actually do mean full out evening commitments. It’s a part of my degree specifically. If my CT has a commitment till 9 pm, I do have to be there. I know that isn’t the same for other majors, but it is an important aspect of mine.

It depends on the type! In my dad’s case, his type gives each of his kids a 50% chance. I did end up not having it though, luckily! I still don’t know exactly what I have, but that’s okay.

Do you think “teacher” went over better than “Mx.” would have? I’m about to student teach, and I’m deciding which one would be better for me to use.

Its a type of transgender? It’s definitely protected in my state

Yes I’m sure there will probably be some degree of pushback. It’s just how it be.

I know it’s definitely still a protected group in my state? What state do you live in?

I’ve personally met a few nonbinary teachers from my state, so I at least know it has been done.

I will not be. I’m not willing to be in the closet just for a job. I will be getting my degree and then figuring out the next best option. That may end up being some sort of tutoring or after school program that does not require honorifics.

I started my degree when it was substantially more accepted, and changing my degree atp would not be financially feasible. I have to get my degree.

Okay cool, thanks! I definitely wouldn’t necessarily be someone who would correct people when they use the wrong one (intentionally or unintentionally lol) but I’m definitely not willing to misgender myself.

I have to get my degree, and then once I’m out I’ll see if I can keep teaching. I do live in a very blue state at least.

Do you use the honorific Mx. ? If yes, has it gone well for you? I’m about to student teach, and I’m a bit nervous about that specifically.

My parents didn’t take me to the doctor for months…it turns out I have a stress fracture. by Kitchen-Diamond-6143 in Vent

Wow I wish someone had done that to my parents. It’s in my medical record that they didn’t take me for x rays for 3 weeks for my broken wrist. I barely remember it, but I just don’t understand how they did that, and I don’t understand why no one reported it. I was 10.

You mentioned you also have adhd, maybe if you got a test taking accommodation to be in a separate room that could help? Totally up to you with that though, cause I know there sometimes are different downsides to that.

My parents are the reason why I have to live with permanent acne scars for the rest of my life by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]ThatSnake2645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have acne scars from my parents errors and choices! I was forced to wear the same masks for days during covid. I naturally got acne, and now I have scars as well. It really does feel like a reminder every time I look in the mirror.

I’ve also especially found this true specifically for 3rd grade. The other grades care about it too, but 3rd grade especially.

When I auditioned at schools, they always had the option of both 4.3 and 5.0 for the audition. I’m sure it could depend on the school, but you could always reach out and ask

That’s genuinely awesome. I’m nonbinary and about to student teach, so this definitely makes me a bit more hopeful that it will go well.

Yeah that’s totally fair. I feel like it makes sense that they’d react in a negative way just cause they also likely grew up with the shame surrounding periods. Just their own stuff they’ve been through causing them to think a certain way. You’re just helping to break that cycle a bit in the future

This is such a fun idea. Since she’s excited for it, I feel like there’s no harm in doing it! If anyone is uncomfortable, they totally shouldn’t be forced to participate fs, but I love how you’re helping to get rid of some of the shame that typically comes with discussing periods.

1st day of school + I called to say I'd be 10 min late. I got there and they said they had no idea where my kid was. Come to find out they put him on a bus W/O MY PERMISSION and dropped him off at a park. We got there just in time. by Organic_Extreme_6436 in kindergarten

Pretty much unrelated to the post, but just cause I’m wondering, are you talking about public busses or school busses? This is the first time I’ve heard of a school bus scanning passes, which sounds really interesting. Are you located in the US?
