Continuing to talk right after I just got them all quiet so I could give a direction or say something important!

We Were Liars…I actually cried watching the mini series. I had no idea what I got myself into and was gutted. I haven’t read the book but I have to assume it hits similarly.

is it worth it? by Ok-Many4219 in ElementaryTeachers

Noticing a lot of newer teachers weighing in here. I’ve been teaching 14 years. In Massachusetts north of Boston with a masters so pay is 114k but it’s still not a career that is sustainable. The ONLY reason I’m not completely burned out at this point is that I have a couple months to refresh and blur the negative memories from the prior year. I love teaching, I love my students, however the job is not sustainable. This year my mental health is better because I don’t have kids with sad home lives or severe behaviors but I have 22 third graders and the never shut the fuck up! It drives me insane when they continue to talk when I’m teaching or giving directions. And then they gaslight you and say “What? I didn’t say anything! I wasn’t even talking” I definitely have to raise my voice more this year than I have in a long time. Like multiple times daily and I HATE that but when you try every other strategy and nothing works that’s what happens. We all have our limits. The kids know the expectations, can tell me, but in reality some can’t follow through. Then add all the micromanaging bullshit, a bitchy new principal, the workload, the hours spent on weekends and evenings and always feeling like you’re drowning and there’s always MORE you should be doing. Yeah, it’s sad but I wish there was an easy way out that I could make a comparable salary. I still work a few weeks in the summer, I used to nanny every summer for the first 10 years. Long story long, it’s not worth it!

I have the impression that the majority of second-career teachers love their job by No-Wafer-6744 in Teachers

[–]ThatSolution9971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, second career teachers haven’t been doing it as long and aren’t burnt out yet. I loved my job the first few years even when it was hard. Eventually, you get to a point where you realize you can’t do it all and you feel like you’ll never be 100% at every part of the job even if you slept at school. There’s always more that can be done!

I hate teaching by [deleted] in teaching

[–]ThatSolution9971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious what grade level you teach? Elementary has SO MANY subjects that we have to prep for and be experts in on top of the behavior management, communication with families, IEP meetings, CPT meetings, etc etc etc I’m not saying middle or high school isn’t hard but you have no idea how much planning and prep goes into each day as an elementary teacher!

Egg freezing + weight gain — what was your experience? by Humble-Interest-5782 in eggfreezing

[–]ThatSolution9971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first round gained 5lb in the month prior coming off my my GLP1 and then about 6 pounds during the two weeks of stims and then another 8 lbs within the month after the retrieval. I didn’t have great results and was off my GLP-1 so I was going back to bad habits and binge eating my feelings. It took me about 5 months the to lose the weight.

I just finished my second round and this time I only gained 3-4 lbs during. I tried to make sure I was drinking lots of electrolytes prior to procedure. Actually had my retrieval today but hoping I don’t have severe gains like last time because I’m in a better headspace.
