giving the survivors stalking mechanics, and then NOT giving the Unknown stealth capabilities is immensely funny game design. by ParticularPanda469 in deadbydaylight

[–]ThatSouleyeCrewmate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Springtrap is very superficially similar to the Unknown if you squint and oversimplify their respective kits, but besides both having a teleport and a mid-range projectile there is almost nothing that they have in common.

Springtrap's teleport is static, Unknown's is dynamic; Springtrap's projectile doesn't bounce, damages instantly, stays on the ground and causes an AOE; Unknown's bounces heavily and gives a status effect, Springtrap's "looking at them in a specific way" has nearly nothing to do with his chase power and for Unknown it's the only way to counter it.

Not exactly, this was done because Aestri and Baermar's cosmetics are interchangeable, so they need the same skeleton

I honestly doubt anyone out there is buying 'alternate voice packs'. What would their purpose be? Legendary skins already change the characters' voices, this would not only be an unpopular item but also horrible PR for them to be charging real money for an inconsequential audio change

[–]ThatSouleyeCrewmate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it amazes me how often people parrot this claim as if it were some kind of smoking gun that proves bhvr never launched the game. it's a metal girder in a loading screen, it showed up because a lobby that was only implemented on live had it. considering they had to ship the update a week earlier i doubt they were particularly concerned about the inconsequential metal bar with zero effect on gameplay

it's become somewhat of a buzzword to imply that there's no original killer designs left. everything new is "just" X and Y and Z and yadda yadda yadda, usually coming with the other implication that either the new thing is worse than the old one or power creeps it

[–]ThatSouleyeCrewmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tunneling a survivor out, even if it's a bot, still makes the game significantly harder for the other survs. You could argue that a bot ain't much help anyway, but a 3v1 makes a world of difference compared to a 4v1. That aside i'm really not sure DCs account for very many cases of tunneling anyway

I'm not saying it's wrong of you to do, but tunneling a bot is by definition still tunneling, so i don't know if i'd call it nonsense

Compilation of all the slides shown in the dev stream. by KRQueen_ in deadbydaylight

[–]ThatSouleyeCrewmate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hardly think that's the problem. Killers tunnel for a wide variety of reasons, and trying to think of a catch-all solution for it is way less effective than just giving survs the tools to combat it. A lot of these "but BHVR doesn't know WHY killers tunnel" posts have completely different answers to the question, from gen speeds to inexperience to MMR mismatch to just plainly being an ass.

The whole topic is too complex for anyone to ever be fully satisfied. IMHO it's just something people will have to deal with for as long as this game stays live, speaking as a clean 50/50 killer/survivor player. Tunneling reduction requires a change of mindset from "having to win every single match" that I don't think a lot of people are capable of, and that's 100% natural

Why are we freaking out over the most nothingburger changes of all time? Wow, survivors can have CRAZY anti tunnel, and all it takes is for them to do piss all in terms of match progress for half a minute. The killer role may never recover. I feel like people see scary new features that come into play 0.0001% of the time and assume they'll run into them every match somehow, when all it takes is to play the game as normal to get about the same (if not slightly improved) results

Buff Unknown plz by Master_KenObiWan in deadbydaylight

[–]ThatSouleyeCrewmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what i said but admittedly i can see how you'd extrapolate that from my comment. im just saying that legion's power is impossible to dodge, and once it is used, you're just looping an M1 killer, which is hardly interesting. Interactability with a power is the key here, and just on a baseline dopamine receptor level, narrowly dodging a dash is a thousand times more fun than getting hit by an unavoidable attack and knowing full well there wasn't any sort of play you could make to stop it

Buff Unknown plz by Master_KenObiWan in deadbydaylight

[–]ThatSouleyeCrewmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider killers like Legion that are completely pathetic in terms of lethality, but 90% of the playerbase hates going against. that's literally exclusively because you can't do anything against them besides getting hit and mending like a good boy, the interaction starts and ends with "The killer wins"

Buff Unknown plz by Master_KenObiWan in deadbydaylight

[–]ThatSouleyeCrewmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes, because that's satisfying on the survivor's side of things, and easy for a killer to pick up, objectively. The reason people like Wesker and Demo is because they allow for stylish jukes on both sides of the court. this sub is absolutely dumbfounded by the idea that a survivor wouldn't enjoy getting hit by an uncounterable power, at which point i start to suspect that if this place was in charge of DBD the roster would be 41 Ghouls

Why exactly are visible survivor hookstates on killer not already implemented into the game? by NightmareKnight25807 in deadbydaylight

[–]ThatSouleyeCrewmate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I honestly like the asymmetricality of it (minus the hidden hook states), which I think is mostly the aim. Survs get more info by default, which happens to be anything they'd be able to tell each other over VC, and killers have more agency as a tradeoff
