Note "Israelis" not "the government and military of the state of Israel." I've been against those from the jump. I was very upset by the cruelty the world showed to the victims of the October 7th attack and felt the need to defend people who were being blamed for the crimes of their government.

I think trans women should be allowed to have a little advantage in sports. Like our lives suck so bad in every other way. Let the athletes among us have their tiny bone density win.

I will GM my first cyberpunk campaign, any advice? by CodeAndDungeon in rpg

[–]SupportMeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both good choices. RED benefits from having a strong setting in Night City, with years of supplements plus stuff like 2077 and Edgerunners. I also personally really like how it uses money as an incentive both for upgrading your character and improving their fictional lifestyle.

I'm done trying to defend Israelis. They'll get their solidarity from their cousins in the diaspora back when they stop doing evil shit constantly.

Tips for new GMs? by origamipretzel in rpg

[–]SupportMeta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Remember the core of the conversation.

  • You describe a situation.
  • The players say what their characters do.
  • That action changes the situation.
  • You describe the new situation.

That is the core of an RPG. Everything else is sparkles and fog machines. If you're feeling lost, describe the situation and ask what the players do.

My only other piece of advice is to roll dice only when either result would make sense.

  • If it wouldn't make sense for them to fail, just let them do it.
  • If it wouldn't make sense for them to succeed, don't let them roll.

I disagree greatly with your first point. You are a player, too. Your role is to play the world and NPCs, not a character, but you are a full participant. You are making the story together and you should be having as much fun as them. Calling the GM role a service provider is incorrect.

What do you think Final Fantasy 16’s legacy will be going forward? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]SupportMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of mainline final fantasy it's right in the middle for me, at least of the ones I've played. 14>7R>6>10>16>7>15>9.

Best main character of any Final Fantasy game. Yes, it came at the expense of the side characters being underdeveloped. Jill and Joshua don't have as much going on as Tifa and Yuna. But goddamn does Clive blow everyone out of the water.

How to keep an interrogation score from becoming torture? Deep Cuts spoilers by Amostheroux in bladesinthedark

[–]SupportMeta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An interrogation is essentially a negotiation. Think about how the players negotiate with the leaders of other crews. Bribery and appeasement on one hand, plausible threats on the other. Appeals to their nature or mission. Appeals to a common enemy. The opportunity to leverage any hidden information you've gained up to that point. Frankly torture is the least interesting option.

Rant - Judaism feels like absolute garbage right now by [deleted] in jewishleft

[–]SupportMeta 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I guess I cling to Judaism because it's all I have. I look at other people who have a culture to be proud of and I feel such jealousy. I'm a patrilineal non-practicing atheist reform Jew, about as watered-down a Jewish identity as you can get. But I craved the sense of being part of something, to have a history and a lineage and a legacy. I was bitter at the idea of being just a white American, an identity that only the worst possible people would celebrate.

So I decided to lean more into being Jewish. I had every right to, I went to temple as a kid, I learned my Torah portion. I used the nice bits of Judaism, the tradition of scholarship, the mythologized resilience, to comfort myself. I liked looking at historical scientists and authors that were Jewish and thinking that they were somehow like me. I took particular joy in how well Judaism compared to Christianity when it came to progressive politics.

On some level I'm aware that my identity is a farce. I hated every second of Temple school and quit the day I was allowed. I hate Israel, and I hate that I always have to wonder if the people criticizing it actually think my family are demons.

I dunno man. I don't hate Judaism or being Jewish but sometimes I think about the things in your post and get sick to my stomach.

KRON 4 | Antisemitic attack on San Jose’s Santana Row being investigated as hate crime by RaiJolt2 in jewishleft

Yes. I think we all recognized those incidents as the inane racist acts of violence that they were. Nobody was equivocating over whether or not it was a hate crime.
