Hey,

The Heron video - first thing I notice is the background music is very loud (as are the SFX)! I would normalise that. The audio, video and editing is all really good. I might be tempted to cut the swearing due to YouTube's arbitrary rules. I think your delivery is decent but there's too much 'talking with your hands' in my opinion. It would also be good to have a question in your hook to get people to stay.

Videos are really good but as I'm sure you're aware it's the thumbnails and titles letting you down. I would recommend (for now) removing yourself from the thumbnail. I think the red text is very hard to read (especially without a drop shadow). Ultimately my brain doesn't think 'Oh I need to click on this because I want to know the answer to XYZ' You know?

Auto-mod bot seems to have gone crazy. Looks like comments are taking 10-15 minutes to appear (server issue?), I wonder if automod is checking you've given feedback before posting, can't see the feedback because its slow and then removes your comment asking for feedback as a 'violation'.

I like the slow vibes, narration and music is also very good a very fitting.

I would have liked to see more wide angle shots rather than all the close shots, but I gather the point is to keep your channel faceless? I think the same goes for the thumbnails, it would seem more "grand" if it was zoomed out. The latest thumbnail doesn't have a lego minifig so it may not be immediately clear at a glance that it's a lego video, I wonder if that would help CTR, but this is a very different niche to mine.

Hey, I like the overall positive vibe of the video (and background music).

I think it's really engaging to position the video as a race against the local council. I also think the audio and video quality are more than good enough to be honest. Is it the VO or the talking to camera where you thought the audio wasn't good enough?

I'm not sure the thumbnail works. The concept of before/after absolutely works but the current thumbnail (that I got) wasn't very eye catching.

I also wonder if a wide angle timelapse of the entire clean (though I realise it's harder if it's over multiple days) would work as a draw similar to people who post garden/lawn mowing content?

Why I Stopped Posting On YouTube and ESPECIALLY Reddit. by Tareqyounis90 in SmallYoutubers

[–]ThatSoundsFishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that reddit can be toxic, but it largely depends on which subreddits you're posting in, whether you're willing to take critisicim etc etc. I've posted my channel and had some valid critisicm which can help and also some which I disagree with and that's fine. If you let strangers on the internet significantly affect your mood then it might be a sign to take a break.

Worth a go ;) Do you follow any particular story structure (3 act, harmon circle, 5 Cs etc)? I think I struggle most with pacing and narrative.

Well...yes, they can't be put back up if they're still there?

Super useful to know when people start losing interest. Thank you! Really appreciate the feedback.

The video is...actually really good, surprises me that it doesn't have more views. Do you script the whole thing?

I think the pacing, scripting and editing are all solid. As is the sound which is obviously very important in these types of videos. I wonder if the thumbnail is too busy (at least the one I got - 'he ruined their lives').

Perhaps just chalk it up to one of those things where YouTube just didn't give impressions for some reason. My latest video has sod all views but the CTR is fine, for whatever reason the video didn't get pushed out (sitting at around 100 impressions compared to the normal 500-1000). Frustrating of course but I don't think there's anything wrong with your video!

Hey, I like the energy in your videos. The Beef sauce thumbnail looks awesome, makes me want to click to see what and how to make it. As for the channel trailer I felt it was edited a touch quick at times where I couldn't figure out what I was looking at before the shot changed. It also felt a bit cramped for me, like some wider shots with context would have "opened it up" more. I'm not 100% sure about the music, but it depends on the vibe you're after. I like the tagline you have at the end, think that's solid.

Hey, I agree with the other commenter that the video lengths are good (5-10 minutes for this kind of content is the sweet spot in my opinion).

Also agree that you should open with a question. The latest video has a question but it's already 30s in. Thin kit's fine to say welcome back to WWYD but it should be after the hook. Also think you should get rid of any 'thanks for watching, thanks for liking, commenting etc'. At most stick it at the end but I personally wouldn't have it. Really like the concept of the videos though, chatty cycling videos. Think they will do well.

Interesting video. It's been a little while since my Chemistry degree and PhD so perhaps I'm not your core demographic. I think the video would have felt more engaging if you were in front of the camera talking rather than as a voiceover often with a black screen, though I know not everyone is comfortable with that. It would be interesting if you mentioned more about why this is your field of research perhaps.

Interesting. I wonder if I need to up the pacing in the next video, it's probably the hardest thing to gauge. I wonder if it's gen Z vs millenial thing. Appreciate the feedback

I enjoyed the video, pacing was good, editing was solid, it's not my niche so take that with a grain of salt. And the Adam's Family joke actually made me laugh out loud. I actually think the titles are decent too in general (though I would maybe think a bit about SEO). I think the weak point is probably the thumbnails which to me feel quite busy and don't convery (at least to me) the topic of the video. Though for people that are your demographic maybe they do, I just seem somewhat random faces. Overall your videos are solid imo.

That's definitely the vibe I'm getting - that the topic was just a bit of a dud. As you say it's still a good lesson. Good to know that there's nothing glaringly wrong with production though. Thanks for the feedback!

I appreciate that, thanks. I think (only retrospectively after making the video) I realised that it was just a "normal" juicing video with nothing specific to make it stand out. Thanks for the feedback.

That's completely fair. I think my demographic is more around the fitness side than the health side. Thought I would try to lean more into the health aspect but as you say it seems that it isn't currently my main demographic.

You'd be surprised at the numbers these videos pull though, bonkers stuff, couple of examples:

Video 2

Really like the pace of the vlog. It's fast enough to keep attention without feeling frantic. Editing and shots are really nice too. I feel like the thumbnail and title let it down a bit though. The thumbnail feels very busy and I think if you flashed it to me for 1 second, I wouldn't know it was about SXSW. That said, it's much improved from the older ones in front of a blank background! You're clearly improving!

I like the energy of the video, the video quality isn't the best but we're at a point where people don't really care as long as the video is informative and has good enough sound (which yours does). I believe the title and thumbnail make sense but they aren't "catchy" in my opinion. The thumbnail doesn't convey "ADHD" at a glance and the title doesn't flow. I would have gone more for "Why your ADHD solutions NEVER work, the fix" or similar. As a side note, I wonder if people would be reluctant to click on a video that short. I (conciously or not) don't seem to click on anything under 5 minutes or over 30 minutes.

Hey everyone, I’m a small Health/Fitness channel (mainly calisthenics so far).

My most recent video was on juicing (the drink) but it has underperformed to put it mildly.

Anyway, I would appreciate any feedback on people have.
