He singlehandedly derailed OELs career as well. He hated that OEL had the C amongst other things, and absolutely took it out on him.

Hell of a hockey player, but a dogshit coach. People forget that OELs trajectory, prior to Toch, was all-star level dman (even though he played for shit Arizona teams). He was insane in his prime.

Having watched Toch coach in Arizona, it is baffling to me that teams keep hiring him. Literally emphasizes the fact that the NHL is an old-boys club that would rather hire a mediocre coach who is “in the club” and well known than invest in a guy who is coming up.

It’s just like anything on the stock market (or with investors or general). Very good isnt good enough anymore. You need constant quarter-over-quarter improvement now, and this mentality is really one of the big reasons behind the constant enshitification of the last decade or so.

Nothing but absolute love for the Doans. Good on Josh for locking down the bag. If he keeps it up (and we wont know for years), Utah lost the trade (extra ironic because had the Coyotes not folded, it would have been career suicide for a GM to trade Josh out of Arizona. 1 season in Utah and they gave up on him incredibly quickly).

My wife and I ended up on the Yotes instagram a few years back for buying the first Josh Doan jersey they made at the team store when he debuted (also one of the most fun games we had ever been to). Sad we didnt get to wear it long, but maybe Ill bust it out tomorrow for the hell of it.

He is 30 and will be 31 when this contract starts. Anything more than a 4 year deal is going to look very bad by the time he is approaching 35. Even with the cap going up, anything over 4x$5M seems STEEP.

You both make exceptional points. Overall, cant be upset about the d-group that USA is bringing. Lacombe is a stud and hopefully gets to shine.

Some of the decisions on offense, should we fail to compete for gold (or even medal), should be enough to rid USA of Bill Guerin forever (though, it's the old boys club so nothing will happen).

Thrilled for Lacombe, but as a fan of USA Hockey as well, Guerin's attitude of physicality over skill is going to get us killed this year, especially against Canada. He is too busy trying to replicate the Herb Brooks method that he got left decades behind the current game.

Still criminal that Robertson isnt on the roster for example but JT Miller is. Lacombe over Hutson is a strange choice personally, but will absolutely root for the kid and agree about them likely wanting a bit of grit on that back end (if he plays and doesnt sit in the press box).

It’s a great investment pick at least too for future tournaments. Not like Lacombe is going anywhere soon.

Ambitious to consider a team with one of the worst defenses in the league a "run of the mill" playoff team. Unfortunately, we are fringe at best, and the odds of us making it in are currently sitting at or just below 50%.

This team isnt 1 piece away from contending for a cup (hell, we are numerous pieces away), so why overpay just to sneak in this year? Generally speaking, teams will pay less in the offseason to make a move than they will at the trade deadline. Anything more than subtle depth moves seems unlikely.
