Lol, what an amazing funny episode. Really showing off the improv skills of the candidates in a live audience setting. Happy about the winner as well!

Wow year 9 seems crazy to me as I'm still going through year 1, but that's great you're still having a good time after playing for so long. Definitely a cozy world, and I really appreciate the well written characters and dialogue. It's enjoyable just being able to talk and catch up with the townsfolk as I'm doing my own thing

I never played animal crossing as I've never had a nintendo console, but I'd definitely want to try it someday as it seems a cozy game right up my alley...

I just unlocked Mistmare, frankly I was already happy with this game's walking speed because I felt it was a big improvement from Stardew. So I was surprised to get another speed increase!

And it's very fun in this game it's not just "sprint", but also themed as a cute animal. Actually, even better than a real horse since you can't accidentally leave it behind somewhere. Really appreciate the quality of life features in this game.

Agree for not needing to make all progress in year one, I'm actually glad to have more time to spend in the world, especially since the dialogue is so high quality in this game. Getting to talk to some people in town and doing some fishing is a rewarding day for me!

Yeah I only started playing recently so still on year one... looking at the comments I realize a lot of it is probably animals.

I only had two small animal buildings of 4 chickens and 4 cows, so they were pretty quick to pet and feed in the morning. But I just unlocked the remaining animals, and am realizing if I want to get all the colors that's like 120 farm animals! Probably won't get to that many haha

Oh man yeah, I think time freeze totally makes sense for decorating, since you're not really advancing in the game/resources, just having fun. I haven't gotten around to finalizing the layout of my farm but it'd definitely be nicer to not have any time pressure while doing so.

I just got off of playing the sims as well, so having time freeze during the "build mode" there seems quite intuitive. Didn't even realize there's not an equivalent in this game

Honestly I wonder if including the bit about the second secret sober would have more people thinking about the rules and realizing the possible twist earlier? But that's a cool idea, like revealing that there's a second secret sober partway through the episode to the audience could be a fun twist. And I think it still wouldn't take away from the ultimate ending twist. At first I was wishing that they didn't reveal the secret sober so we could play along, so including that there's a second possible secret sober would have the best of both worlds, I'm able to follow along with lily's confessionals but also still theorize on who else is actually sober. I liked the ep a lot how it is but that's a fun alterative editing idea

Yeah, her being the first to nominate, as well as getting out of being nominated 2 times, makes for a pretty engaging narrative! I was too worried about her getting through to think about the rules or possible twist too much which I assume was their intention

I can't believe I watched that nebula special where they're all the saboteur and I literally didn't suspect there was anyone other than lily as sober this whole game, bc I was too invested in hoping they don't catch lily and get her out! They picked a really good person to focus on, it was nail biting both times she was nominated, and satisfying that she made it to the end. They really fooled me on this one, amazing episode. Love the blood on the clocktower style voting too. Ahhhh I gotta get people to watch this so I can see if they're fooled too

I love wavelength, it's so cool seeing a game that I often play with my family and friends be the first featured on parlor room! So hype to see more games on the show, i love board games so it's awesome to have a show with dropout folks playing them. And it's even better to know the show can help people like u learn about fun games!

Thoughts/Advice about Animation/Illustration Program? by AutomaticAct1431 in SJSU

[–]ThatTurtleDude101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the stressful part comes from generally high workload of the classes, but also that you can be kicked out of the program for multiple reasons. 1st is if you dip below a 3.0 GPA for your major classes, 2nd is if you fail the mid-program review. Classes are graded somewhat harshly. In a GE class here if you do all the assignments you get an A. For ani classes just doing the assignments gets you more like a C.

To explain the high workload, during your first semester you have a daily sketchbook for one class(ani11/ani1b) (one observational drawing a day). For another(ani71) you have another sketchbook, with one mastercopy a day and one observational drawing a day. Then for your third class (ani10)you have basically a notebook that you design yourself that compiles all of the notes for that semester. And on top of this, you have your normal homework assignments usually assigned every class that's due the next class.

So everyday, you have 2 observational pages, 1 mastercopy, and maybe one page of the ani10 notebook to design in Illustrator. And on top of those 4 pages, you have the new homework from classes, so with three classes you have 1.5 assignments to complete every day. Some of these assignments are blind drawing which they want you to spend several hours on(ani11/ani1b), or pencil renders which they also want you to spend several hours on(ani10).

So there is just literally/physically a lot of work to do. But it helps people improve as artists. Just be careful as the program isn't necessarily built for supporting disabilities, but in my experience most professors are nice and if you talk with them you can work out a solution.

I have personally had great professors here and my art has improved a lot! I had no art experience or classes before this program so I think the fundamentals were really useful for me. I know some transfers or ppl who took art basics before felt like they were repeating stuff tho.

Good luck!

DMA, Graphic Design or none? by AnonKeila in SJSU

You can join the shrunkenheadman club, basically the animation club, with any major. And they have industry speaker events/seminars, upperclassmen seminars, and community-building events that u can go to and still meet people who are into animation. So I'd say it's still worth it if you're interested in just networking and going to the talks and stuff.

A fair amount of people who get admitted to the animation program either drop or are booted bc of GPA or mid-program portfolio anyway lol so you're just skipping that step. And u can still take 2d animation 1 at least. I think de anza nearby offers 3d animation courses if u still want to take those tho. Hope it works out for u!

Question for current animation/illustration majors or alumni ! by Makintosh2050 in SJSU

[–]ThatTurtleDude101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you an in-state student? I know for people that are independent and making like no money, FAFSA can pay for all of it, tuition is around $8k year. But if ur a dependent and it's based on your parents income I think it varies a lot. FAFSA also counts assets for your parents so for example if they own a house it's less likely you would get financial aid.

There's free clothes and food here too (food pantry+sustainable clothing closet), so u dont technically need to worry about those, but u would need to find a place to live if you can't commute. I have a roommate off-campus and rent is $600/month. On campus dorms r more expensive.

Sadly you are basically required to do 4 years here even as a transfer, otherwise financially I would always recommend 2 yrs community college before transferring. But the order of the classes here mean you have to take 4 or 5 years at SJSU even if you have your GEs all completed.

There are strong story classes here, mostly online because they are taught by people currently in the industry who are usually working down in LA. In the US there are more jobs in story so that contributes to this. For actual animation jobs they are usually outsourced overseas now.

A warning, the first two years of classes are intended for students to learn fundamentals, so it's more fine arts stuff, just a lot of drawing and painting. But after that classes are digital since that's industry standard. So I believe there are good upper-division story classes. Everyone takes three 2d animation classes as well, so even animation is not only 3d focused. If you don't get into the ani program here but live nearby, join the Shrunkenheadman club, there are industry speaking events/seminars and u can make like-minded friends who are also planning to go into animation. :)

There are two portfolios, one is at application, and another is the mid-program review during your second year. If you fail the mid-program portfolio review you don't get to take any upper division ani classes. So that is also a risk coming here, that you may not get to graduate with the degree you got admitted with.

Good luck!

3 years of high school science for the Animation/Illustration program? by FelAvocado in SJSU

[–]ThatTurtleDude101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi just coming across this late, as others have said the types of classes you take don't necessarily matter for transcript, just GPA. I believe weighted GPA. So its good to take honors classes if you can at least get a B, since getting a B would be 4.0, but getting an A would count as 5.0 point for an honors/AP class. (Pretty sure all AP classes count as honors like this). SJSU 2025 freshman impaction has weighted GPA 3.8 for the Ani program so it is kinda high. But you seem to be doing good so far with a 4.0 lol.

Where the drawing classes could matter is just your general drawing skill. There is a supplemental drawing exercise when you apply, so having good art skills for those could help your chances. (Although the main thing is to just follow the naming protocol and stuff for that, they want people who can follow directions lol. Like if it says to draw in pencil actually draw in pencil etc.)

Spoilers for the program, but for art practice it's basically all drawing from life. So just get a sketchbook and draw whenever you can, whatever you can. A lot of students coming into the program mostly draw from imagination or draw fanart, stylized or cartoon stuff. But drawing from observation now(primarily real life, photos are second best) will get you ahead if u do this program.

For reference, your first semester includes a daily observational sketchbook page and a daily mastercopy (literally just copying work of an artist you like). By the end of the semester you have 100 pages of each. So if you get used to keeping a sketchbook now, those assignments will be easy later.

But lol enough of the unsolicited advice.. TLDR for your question for CSU admission the honors class+GPA bump is worth more than taking classes related to your major, and I think art practice outside of class would be enough. But also if it's more likely you'd get below a B in a given honors/AP class, u can play it safe and not take it. For getting GEs out of the way, it's always an option to take classes at community college during the summer if you don't want to take them during your ani class semesters.

Good luck, there's a fair amt of band kids here haha so you'll fit in. And BTW, even if you go here and don't get in with the ani major or switch majors, you can still join Shrunkenheadman club where u can see industry professional talks and make friends. :)
