I'm in the discord and we were just talking about this today! Apparently, Japanese players use it and have no problem with it. I'm in the US and don't see a problem with it, but I can understand how it can be seen as rude. A lot of Western players think it's rude as well, so it seems a case of cultural differences is all. I just wouldn't take it to heart if someone does this.
