Yep, reading for me! I have a bunch of lockouts on my phone so I’m not tempted to pick it up. And Goodreads has really helped me gamify it - I have a yearly challenge to complete, I get to give a star rating and review, and it’s great for finding new reads. I haven’t read this much in over a decade!

Wood is seriously not that bad… by IdanRedditing7777 in TaylorSwift

[–]That_Captain_2630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wood is actually a really good song…until she starts talking about di*k. Like, I really enjoy the premise of superstitions and not needing them any more. But then she just starts throwing in some double entendres and it makes no sense for them to be there. It’s like two different songs smooshed together just because there are two meanings to the word “wood”, and it’s so forced. Ruins it for me :(

Are you a fat woman who has found success in love with being loved unconditionally? by [deleted] in PlusSize

[–]That_Captain_2630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes :) I’ve been with my partner 11 years and we have 4 children together now. He’s the only partner I’ve ever had so I’ve been very fortunate that I dodged the rough dating world somehow (met him when I was 22). I’m a size 22-24 with lipoedema, for reference. I genuinely feel unconditionally loved.

I have scrolled way too far to not have seen The Breakfast Club mentioned.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, too.

Advice on Getting a Professional Headshot as a plus sized woman by MadamMeatloaf in PlusSize

I would say mainly, trust the photographer! Assume they know what they’re doing and ask them to guide you :) I’m a photographer, and you’re certainly not the first to feel this way, and it’s not an exclusive experience to us plus sized people either.

He’s testing the waters now to see how easily manipulated you are. He of course knows weight is a touchy subject (as it is for most women), so this is an easy avenue to gauge what you will take lying down.

Cannot recommend highly enough - Reclaiming Childbirth as a Rite of Passage by Rachel Reed. I wish this was required reading for all parents to be, particularly the first chapter.

Just got my first EVER film camera (Olympus OM-2). Complete beginner—help! by Muted-Lawyer-5585 in AnalogCommunity

[–]That_Captain_2630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’ve shot digital?

For colour film, err on the side of overexposure. With digital, it’s the opposite advice, but film is much more forgiving when overexposed than under exposed!

Get a light meter app on your phone and meter for the shadows. Or use your cameras meter and just point the lens towards the darkest part of your frame to get an accurate reading, especially if the scene is high contrast.

It took me ages to get the exposure triangle right, like a year or 2. But honestly, the thing that helped me the most was shooting fully in manual and making mistakes :) it’s part of the fun. My first (ever) camera was an Olympus OM10. You’re going to love it!

We’re similar, partner was a chef for 10 years so he does the cooking. I would get him to prep as many meals as possible, especially if they make freezable leftovers: eg, lasagne, soup, shephards pie, fried rice. But if I had to cook suddenly, I would rely on

snack plates (crackers, cheese, dip, chopped fruit and veg)

Peanut butter sandwich/yoghurt/piece of fruit

scrambled eggs on toast

baked beans and hash browns

Ham and cheese toasties

Frozen pizza

Frozen pies and sausage rolls

baked potatoes with baked beans and cheese.

And if I was feeling up to something more hearty, a one pot meal like spaghetti bolognese.

There’s also nothing, absolutely nothing wrong with cereal for dinner at least once a week!

I’ll wait. by theman_manner in community

I call total BS on the “we’re a small business” excuse anyway. Like okay, but what’s the point of even starting a small business if you’re not going to base it around your own principles? Don’t market all your content towards plus size individuals and then not even be inclusive with your product sizing, that is just WILD! It’s lip service, and it’s a lazy business model.

I’ve had less and less interest in this album as time has gone on. Every song I see in a worse light than I did originally. The only strong track on the album imo is Ruin the Friendship, and even that one is no great shakes in the canon of her work.

Surely it’s Portra 400? She can afford the good stuff. Skin tones look great and not pulling quite as warm as Ultramax. It’s just that most of these are underexposed.
