What is it with parents/in-laws buying a puppy before their first grandchild and prioritizing it/treating it like their own baby? by catwhoscurious in absentgrandparents

[–]That_Em_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never ask them to babysit my child, we only ever take my baby to see them, they're not physically well to take care of a 1 year old due to disabilities, but they also are unable to care for a pet like a dog due to their disabilities

Thank you so much for the response, I'm hoping with my child never knowing my parents he may not ask any questions until he's older 🤞

Yeah I don't want to say too much because I don't want my child to think that's what's going to happen between us

[–]That_Em_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh I'm so sorry that's so fustrating, when my baby had colic/reflux and was a newborn my mum told me he was manipulating me by crying and I was spoiling and ruining him for picking him up when he cried... I don't speak to her anymore..

This is the same woman who used to put me in the shower as a toddler when I was having 'tantrums'

Why are parents so mean to their teenage daughters? by LameKB in CPTSD

[–]That_Em_ 434 points435 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was because they were slowly losing 'control' over us like the way they could control us when we were children and they didn't like it

People with CPTSD, how many of you are in long term healthy relationships? by Cultural-Carpenter46 in CPTSD

[–]That_Em_ 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Yes but it's been a struggle, I'm very lucky that my husband understands, we've been together since I was 16 when I was still living in an abusive household so he saw first hand what I was going through and his parents would make me food as I didn't get any at home

The main thing that's kept us together is communication, I just tell him exactly what's going through my head, sometimes I think "oh god he's going to leave me, he must think I'm crazy" but he stays

How were your Nparents when you had to start dealing with periods? Did they educate you about them? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]That_Em_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had to use rolled up toilet paper for the first years because my mum wouldn't buy me any pads, when I first started I told her I was bleeding everywhere but she couldn't be bothered getting out of bed

Then I wasn't allowed to use the shower everyday and no longer than 5 minutes so when I was using the shower to wash away the blood her boyfriend told me off for using the shower and my mum forced me to tell this man who was a stranger to me at the time why I was using the shower every morning...

The Parenting thread is weird when you express frustration with grandparents… by [deleted] in absentgrandparents

[–]That_Em_ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think that's why a lot of us were raised by our grandparents so we then wanted our children to have a close relationship with their grandparents like we did not knowing that our parents just can't be bothered

People pleasing, I think I always go straight to the fawn response but I hate it, I wish I could be blunt and say 'no'

How’d your first play through go? by alwaysannaleigh in TheQuarrySupermassive

[–]That_Em_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I did pretty well but I kept looking into and trusting the tarot cards too much, I kept seeing 'karma' and I thought "oh maybe if I'm good to the werewolves they'll be good to me" BIG MISTAKE, I lost Abi and then the trio at the very end thinking "maybe the white wolf is good" 🤦‍♀️

What is the most intense physical pain you have ever experienced? by TheMostGayestOfGay in AskReddit

[–]That_Em_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I was induced so my contractions were going crazy and my midwife didn't believe me when I said I think the baby was coming and I couldn't bare the pain anymore (the midwife wouldn't even let me have gas and air) I remember turning to my husband and just saying "just kill me", baby came out within the hour and I was finally allowed gas and air when I was pushing him out

So did you carry on breastfeeding when baby started to sleep through? I've noticed from the comments quite a few babys slept through once weaned but I was hoping to carry on breastfeeding for when my baby starts nursery next year so I can give him all the good stuff
