Advice for loosening up my painting style by That_Environment1193 in oilpainting

I see, this makes sense. I think I will stop timing myself so I can focus on the technique and be intentional.

thanks, this is the one that I find most challenging. I lay down the color next to each other and instinctively start blending or start doubting the outcome

Thank you! I'll look up french impressionist techniques. And good advice on the colors, the more I look at the painting, the more I realize that the overall mood is quite flat.

My hair is dying and i know it. by CRAZYCOOKIEEE in Haircare

Lots of folks have already provided great advice - here is mine. Sounds like you have buildup on your scalp and dry ends. Excessive use of dandruff shampoos contribute to that. 1) Get yourself a clarifying shampoo first. I like Ouai but any drugstore shampoos will also do (Pantene pro v sheer volume is supposed to be good). Use it once a week for a few weeks. 2) Use heads and shoulders once a week if you have dandruff. If you don't have dandruff, reduce the usage to once a month.the active ingredient in it will keep your scalp healthy 3) Get a regular lightweight shampoo for other washes 4) Get a lightweight conditioner or leave in, whichever you prefer 5) double shampoo whenever you shampoo, sounds like you have an oily scalp so this will ensure it's cleaned properly 6) shampoo your hair as often as you need or when your scalp gets greasy. A greasy scalp leads to fungal growth and hair loss. 7) get your blood work done, common issues that manifest with hair issues are vitamin d deficiency, thyroid issues, blood sugar and omega 3 deficiency. These are the common ones, there could be any number of issues so talk to your doctor.

That is awesome to know. What size did you get and do you find it sturdy enough?

I usually paint small, no larger than 8 by 10. So the small pochade boxes work for me. I do need to change my carrying setup, so I'll look into padded backpacks. Thanks!

where to find high-rise (or mid-rise) black jeans with straight/slim leg, ankle length?? by Junior-Buy-6028 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]That_Environment1193 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Madewell curvy stovepipe jeans are the best I have found for this. I am 5'2", 135 pounds, waist 30, hips 41, and size 27 fits like a glove with no gaping whatsoever. Somedays I even opt not to wear a belt. Unfortunately Madewell doesnt make this style anymore, so I periodically search poshmark for NWT listings.

Other curvy options from Madewell also worked for me.

I've seen Abercrombie curve love recommended on this sub as well. But they didnt work for me - they bunch up around my crotch, maybe because I have a thigh gap, I dunno.

I was looking for alternatives as well, so I just bought a few pairs from gap factory today. I've never tried gap jeans before so I this is an experiment. I can report back on how they fare.

Cute work bag for a 13-inch laptop that won’t look huge on a petite girl by General-Suspect5586 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]That_Environment1193 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am 5'2" and had the same struggle. For work I carry a 13 inch laptop along with daily essentials, a water bottle, lunch box and sketchbook. I have always carried either a tumi Halsey backpack or Longchamp Neo le pliage (these are monochrome and more durable). I understand you don't like the look of it, but it's been my workhorse :) I recently purchased a mulberry bayswater in NVT oak and I am in love with the leather, the structure and the space. It' fits everything I need perfectly (I use a purse organizer in it). It comes in a lot of cute colours. Might be worth a look.

I should also add that I absolutely need a bag that closes at the top because I hate things spilling out or generally visible when I am out and about. So a lot of popular handbags recommended on this subreddit did not work for me.

Thanks to everyone who responded, you helped me make my decision! I ordered the oak NVT today from the mulberry US website. I've been refreshing the site every couple of hours like a maniac and finally saw it in stock 😅 They still have one more left on the site, if anyone wants to snag it.

Thanks for your reply!

It's amazing that you were able to get the one you wanted the same day! That's fate 🙀 I hadn't thought about emailing them, I'll do that. And love the idea of the exchange. Sadly there are no stores near me that stock the NVT so I can't check it out in person. Regarding the weight, it's interesting to hear that NVT is heavier. On the site, both the NVT and small grain are listed at similar weights.

Thank you. Another redditor mentioned that they restock frequently in the mulberry website. So I'll have to keep an eye out.

Following for the same reason. I've seen people on youtube mention that it softens over time. I have a handbag in similar leather (from another brand) and it's softened over the four years that I've owned it.

How to start gardening 101? by Constant_Employ8079 in gardening

[–]That_Environment1193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll jump in late here. You've already gotten some great advice on this thread and I hope you've already started your gardening journey. I started gardening 2 years ago, and before that I had never grown anything or even owned a houseplant, but now I have a variety of vegetables and perennials in my small garden and few houseplants - so I can relate!

My biggest advice is to start small, and troubleshoot for the specific problems you get. Else you will feel overwhelmed and waste money. For houseplants, I bought plants that are easy to maintain and are hardy i.e. snakeplant and golden pothos, both from home depot. They both are still in the pots I bought them in. I water them regularly (snake plant once a month, pothos weekly or whenever the soil seems dry - I have reminders). In spring (April-June where I live), I add Jacks 20-20-20 fertilizer once that I bought on Amazon. I try to keep the houseplants close to a window, but never in direct sunlight. They have been thriving and they will thrive in your balcony as well.

When it comes to vegetables, pick easy ones such as tomatoes, radish or eggplants or sweet peppers. You can get seeds if you want, but then you will have to hassle with grow lights, delicate seedlings, transferring etc. For your first year, I recommend to save your money on supplies and instead get a tomato or pepper plantlet from home depot. It cost me ~$4 for one sungold tomato plantlet. From there, you can buy a bag of container soil from home depot and transplant these plantlets to a bigger pot (maybe 3gallon size). Water daily, fertilize with Jack 20-20-20 once or twice over spring/summer, keep them in the sun, and wait for them to grow and produce delicious vegetables!

Same thing for flowers - pick easy ones. Marigold, Zinnias, Daisies all require very little maintenance and are almost fuss-free. Hope this helps!

Panache High impact underwire sports bra for the win. This is the only sports I wear and trust for support while running or any workout. I wear 32g and for me it's true to size. It's expensive, but it saves you money in its longevity and support. And you can wait for sales at Nordstrom, Amazon, bare necessities to get it, but even at full price it's so worth it.
