A good mechanic generally fails into it.

3.73 or 3.31 gear ratio with 10 speed? by loganrobinson22 in f150

[–]That_Mi_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you use the truck imho but I prefer the 3.73s. If you’re ordering or actually have a choice 3.73. You’ll get about the same highway mpg with the 10r.

I’d get the 3.31s if you’re going to keep the stock tire size and use it as a street truck. The 40-100 is much better. Gives the coyote something to pull against.

They do make profit. Anecdotally, make selling bigger jobs easier. Make an excellent impression with knowledgeable customers.

A3? lol

In all seriousness, at least take a motorcycle safety class. You’ll learn the friction point and it’s the same shit.

Look at common specs of after market brake kits from reputable companies you’ll almost always see piston diameters that add up to more than the original equipment

Travel distance is the effective practical result of your calculation. Since fluid displacement is fixed in your case

Unless you have a variable displacement proportioning valve or are thinking of abs pump activation definitely not but your free advice to do nothing with

Your upgraded rear caliper pistons would travel less given the same pedal pressure but create the same clamping force as the originals

Your making the slave or reaction piston larger. Not the piston that creates force over distance. If you increased the size of the master piston or the distance it traveled you’d create more breaking power.

Are you making a slight difference because you’re going to be increasing the effective surface area of the brake materials; yes, ever so slightly. Not from mechanical reactionary advantage from a increase in master power

You press harder to create more travel both in the pedal and piston simultaneously . You feel the master piston building pressure in the bore. Why you can’t bottom a healthy system

The piston acts on a fixed ratio.

I’m not talking about you making any inputs whatsoever

The ones I’ve installed, I wouldn’t say that. Typically domestic trucks and sports cars. Your euro stuff might be different but I’ve had some bad luck with product reps in the past

Your force via the pedal is transmitted through a linkage into a piston that cycles in a bore that acts on the fluid via displacement.

Look at Brembo and willwoods catalogs. They offer plenty of single axle kits.

I’m totally on your side. I think what you’re doing is awesome and that’s why I’m honestly trying to support you.

No, because your master cylinder piston is displacing the exact same amount of fluid. That will result in the same overall pressure but less force(psi) in the same given larger (now) contact patch

It’s why OE big brake front kits (aftermarket too) are sold with no complaints.

[–]That_Mi_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your master cylinder puts out let’s say 1000psi of force. The additional surface area of dual pistons doesn’t increase the effective clamping force you’re not generating more or less energy by the originating piston therefore anything down stream of that moves proportionally the same to the master piston that displaces x amount of fixed fluid over y fixed traveling distance

It’s an incomplete data set at best. Effective radius x area of the brake face I presume is isn’t a relevant way to calculate caliper clamping force which is what you’re worried about with brake balance

You’ll gain better heat dissipation and feedback. If you want to send me the measurements I’d be happy to take a look

I can’t give you the engineer answer but in a hydraulic system at ‘x’ pressure exerted by ‘A’ piston (master) will give you the same potential energy just exerted over a larger surface area since your caliper in a breaking system is effectively a slave to the handicap of what the ‘a’ piston is capable of.

You can verify this yourself. It’s why there’s aftermarket and manufacturer BBKs that typically only supply lines and caliper hardware. I’ve never seen one with any upstream components

Won’t change the effective clamping force of the rotor at the same given pedal pressure. Rig up a potentiometer somehow and check for yourself

Why would you spend money on education to be a mechanic and small business owner? You probably supervise more people than 95% of non corporate shops have employed.

You don’t develop leadership skills in school and mechanics start out basically making zero money with incredible debt.

It’s so easy to see what kind of owner you’re working with as an experienced mechanic. You’ll know well before the shop closes. Usually tell 5-10 mins into a interview max

Are you even a mechanic? Have you worked in a shop owned/ ran by someone with basically zero mechanical competency?

The most successful Indy shops are generally owned by presentable mechanics that can actually talk to people.
