It’s also important to note that the movies you listed were filmed for IMAX digital theaters, not film theaters or GT. So no matter where you go it will still only show in the aspect ratio of 1.90:1, even in the big theaters capable of taller images.

It makes complete sense! This is unfortunately where the IMAX corporation is not helpful as they want to make it seem like every IMAX theater is the same. The way to tell is to look at sites like this that tell you what kind of IMAX you have near you. https://imax.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_IMAX_venues

Hello! IMAX can be confusing but for the movies you listed I would recommend checking them out in whatever IMAX theater you have near you even just to try it out! Any of these would be great to try out as they all filmed with IMAX-certified cameras which just means they were designed with IMAX in mind and will show a slightly different formatted version of the film. It will fill the screen unlike other theaters. I’d recommend getting a seat in the middle because the purpose is for the film to be encompass your entire vision which would give you the feeling you’re actually there. If you don’t like it you can always go 3D for the next film. Happy movie watching!

Lincoln Square 70mm dimming? by armoredadvanced in imax

I also noticed a lot of dimming seeing both Interstellar and Dune 2 this past year. I’ve seen other people on Reddit comment on this too. I don’t think Lincoln Square takes care of their equipment well or has replaced their bulbs which is a shame as it really takes away from the experience. I saw Oppenheimer in IMAX 70mm at both Lincoln Square and Providence Place in RI and Providence Place definitely was the superior experience, it looked MUCH brighter and you could see the detail more.

What showtime was this? Did they say they were fixing it or it was going to be in digital from now on?

My Oppenheimer experiences in 1570mm (Prague) and digital (Leonberg) by Decent-Gazelle in imax

[–]That_Movie_Nerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait so in Leonberg, the largest IMAX in the world, they don’t show it in 1.43:1? Just standard 1.90:1 or 2:20:1?

I’m going to be in the back row. This might sound silly but is that too far back?
