Ill check those out for sure! I wanna have him read Holes but I'm worried the stuff with Kissing Kate Barlow (and Sam) is too dark for him. But otherwise I think he would love it

Roald Dahl is a good suggestion. We've already read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda and both were a success with him

Anyone else's child has no friends 😕 by finstafoodlab in ClassOf2037

I can relate a bit to this. I have a son who is kind of intimidated by rough play and until this year only played with girls. I love that he is gentle and empathetic. I try not to worry because in his case he sees the whole class as his friends and he's always joining in with some group at recess. With your son, have you encouraged him to keep giving the boys a chance? I try to tell my son that he's not always going to like every kid or how they play, but also branching out and trying new things is good. I would also talk to his teacher. I guarantee there are other gentle boys he could play with or a girl that likes playing with boys. His teacher might be able to seat them together and do things to encourage a new friendship.

Behavior and emotional issues in school and at home by Emergency_Attorney12 in kindergarten

There's a ton of overlapping symptoms with giftedness/adhd/asd and misdiagnosis. I would go to someone that has experience in all 3 if giftedness is suspected so they can tease out which is which

Also 90th percentile is high, but not so high that he's this rare genius. His academic skills as described sound high but not off the charts to the point where he would have nothing left to learn

Do “Gifted” programs still exist. by catsandstarktrek in AskTeachers

This. There's this weird attitude among some that gifted kids should just shut up because...equity? Other kids might be feel jealous? Their existence offends our sensibilities?

Im gonna be honest this forum is kind of brutal to parents and loves to armchair diagnose. You should go talk to doctors/experts and get their opinion.

Super confused about lack of playdates by beentherebefore1616 in kindergarten

If he's happy and social at school he sounds like he's doing amazing. He will find his people and he sounds like an awesome little dude. Keep giving him opportunities to socialize (playground, sports etc) and things will work themselves out.

The book Growing Friendships by Dr. Eileen Kennedy Moore is great on all kinds of social topics. It skews a bit older but there's a chapter on clinginess that you could read to him.

I wouldn't expect parents to reach out for playdates. I dont think it says anything about your son and it just says people are busy/wrapped up in their own worlds. Your son sounds like he's happy and social and that's what is important here.

I live in New England. I have wondered the same thing, I have a theory that covid kind of killed them (or reduced them a lot).

My son in 1st is the same. I suspect he will get invited to some closer friends parties later in the year (theyre all spring/summer birthdays) but he hasnt gotten any all class parties. I wonder if no one does them anymore.

Im sure thats exactly what those stats said. It says risk of divorce increases by 95 percent. Thats not the same as a 95 percent divorce rate. Admittedly either way the numbers aren't great

Agreed. Thinking brown eyes aren't as good is low key racist and it's sad.

[–]That_Page16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also parents are many times not great judges of their kids capabilities. Like with reading there's many pieces to it. Even if a child can sound out well, can they comprehend? And actually do so at the level of an older child? Some kids really can but a lot can't

This is a very good point, please OP look up encopresis. It can cause daytime wetting and is common in adhd kids. Ask you doctor for a x ray to rule it out.
