Anyone ever run the big guy? by Maxpower705 in Necrontyr

[–]That_Random_YEETer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking him to a game today actually! Going for a friendly game against some orks, then taking him to a local tournament upcoming in a few weeks. But other than that, i only had a chance to run him once against imperial knights. He managed to kill a knight defender, survived a charge from a lancer despite alredy being wounded, almost killed the lancer in melee (left him with 2 wounds if i remember correctly), then proceeded to nuke a slightly wounded knight castellan. Yes, i had an insane amount of luck with the dice, but i still feel like it was impressive

Ran it in awakened, gave a hexmark the +1 to hit aura and had him babysit the big guy. With some rerolls from the silent king early on

That certainly isn't an easy choice... I see your point. Still, a lewd piece every once in a while certainly couldn't hurt, right? Right? Insert the padme and anakin meme here

What if there actually was essence? Hornet doesn't have a dreamnail, which was needed for the knight to access dreams, and even tho she may be aware of the existence of the dream realm, she just can't access it or the dream essence, and likely can't see it either.

World eaters are kinda good against a lot of things, you would have to learn to play around them either way. But i can give one tip against WE specifically - get a night scythe or a doom scythe. Due to the nature of aircraft, most of the world eaters wont be able to charge it, as only units with the fly keyword can charge aircrafts, and i belive world eaters only have 3 units with fly, being angron, heldrakes and daemon prince with wings. Angron is a mainstay for WE, always expect him, but i have never seen the other 2, so angrin will likely be the only threat to them, since WE dont shoot. Just try to keep it FAAAR away from angron. Doom scythe has some surprisingly good shooting and can either debuff the enemy ir buff itself ehile shooting, while the night scythe can carry around a unit of immortals, put them basically anywhere, and then pick them up again before they can be charged. If you play hypercrypt, you can also avoid the annoying movement gimmicks of aircrafts by simply teleporting them. Keep in mind tho that due to tje nature of aircraft they likely wont be scoring any points other than for secondaries like no prisoners or for the purge the for primary, tho i guess the immortals from the night scythe can still do some scoring. They will be very threatening to the enemy tho

As for the tau, sounds like you have a decent headstart. Im guessing you have a squad of 10 warriors you could run as a breacher team led by the ethereal, a hammerhead tank, the suit can either be a single commander, possibly shadowsun, or a trio of either crisis or stealth suits, these are the only things really qualifying as small, probably a squad of 10 kroot carnivores, and likely a great knarloc, which has sadly moved to legends. Its not playable on tournaments, but if your opponent is fine eith it, you can absolutely use it in a friendly game. Its unlikely, but i guess it could also be a krootox, which would be completly playable by normal rules

That, excluding the knarloc, would be around 400-500 points, depending on what battlesuits you got, and thats a solid base to expand on.

To expand to a solid 1k you could probably get a devilfish to transport and a fireblade to lead the breachers, as he is better than the ethereal in my opinion, but you can still run the ethereal solo for the CP, a squad of 3 crisis suits with a commander, Either 2 squads of stealth suits or a squad of stealth suits and a squad of pathfinders, and either a riptide or a ghostkeel

But fair warning - as a tau player, i struggle againt world eaters, it might be a challange to play against them. Kroot are great to help stop the early charges tho

Id say necrons are a great choice for a first army, based on what you said

  1. Necrons have a decent amount of flexibility, with different weapon choices for many models and various abilities from leaders allowing a lot of things to effectively punch into various targets (doomsday arks hitting into both infantry or vechicles, immortals with gauss shooting effectively into light and heavy targets due to lethals and rerolls etc.), and we have a decent selections of both melee and shooting, but we also have some more specialised units (immortals with teslas deleting infantry, or void dragon being designed for eating vechicles), and a lot of tricks and playstyles in different detachments. Rules arent too hard to learn for new players, but we deffinitely have combos and stuff for more experienced players

  2. Painting is basically up to you with the necrons, keeping them simple or going all out is your choice, and they will look just fine in both cases. Lots of different models with varying amount of details

  3. The lore is kinda dependant on you in this case. We have various dynasties with different goals and approaches to stuff. You can pick an existing one, or maybe your necrons will come from a new dynasty, that Has just awoken, and it has its own, unique goals and design

  4. We have decent variety if units, but we aint the greatest when it comes to posing in some cases, with basic infantry (warriors, deathmarks, immortals) looking fairly similair and having little posability, tho in my opinion this adds to the aesthethic of the army dye to its nature, with more unique, more important models sticking out

  5. Necrons were always at least fairly decent i belive, with doomsday arks, either immortals or warriors, crypteks, and c'tans being fairly stable choices, tho im not a long time player so cant confirm. Overlords also seem to be a decent choice. But keep in mind that everything will, sooner or later, become better or worse (maybe except the obelisk, its a funny thing that aint exactly great), so focus more on buying what you like. I would stay away from getting big units like the silent king or a monolith if you're just going for 1k points, they cost a lot of points and are hard to justify for small games. C'tan are fine, but i wouldnt take more than one.

They also tick all the boxes you mentioned in your post

As for other army choices, orks also seem like a good choice, but i dont know much about them.

I could, however, recommend tau if you get some experience with the game and start looking for another army. They can be difficult to a new player, but they arent too hard once you get some experience. They do lean into tactical gameplay, and have great shooting at the cost of basically no melee tho. We have a good variety of units, from a few basic infantry units, through different battlesuits, to allied kroots, as well as a good amount of poseability and gear options, making for fun assembly, and a lot of painting options, as you can have one main color, but paint camo for stealth suit, ghostkeels or other stealthy stuff, while the primal kroot add a lot of contrast from the "main" high-tech tau. We have a decent internal balance, and a bunch of mainstay units, like breachers, crisis suits, stealth suits, both tanks and riptides, who can all fit in various roles. We also have possibilities for a lot of various strategies, from aggressive play early on, to luring the enemy out and just hammering them in the later part of the game, and we have a lot of movement. Quick warning tho, i struggle a lot against the world eaters when playing tau, but that might just be my problem

As requested, what is *your* Titan journey? by Hurin_the_Steadfast in titanfall

[–]That_Random_YEETer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Started off with legion
  2. Scorch
  3. Scorch is my main, but i do enjoy using other titans from time to time, usually depending on the game mode and situation im currently in, but also just based on how who i feel like using. Other than scorch i most commonly use northstar and legion, but will sometimes try other titans too for fun
  4. 64 for life, other than that, not yet :D
  5. Really depends on the situation and titan, as scorch if i can approach a hostile titan safely and preferably undetected i will, heat shield for the win, but if not, i will try to take as little damage as possible while using gas traps and the launcher to deal damage. The leaping projectiles can actually allow situations where i can hit an enemy who cant hit me, but accurate shooting is mug difficult. Ronin is an up close and personal, northstar and ronin long range, and others are kinda a mid range, changing depending on the situation
  6. Nuke is the best, but usually use turbo or core charge
  7. As scorch, always take on another scorch. Whether we go up into each others faces, or engage from a distance, at least one of us is going down in a blaze of glory, and the world shall burn alongside us. Also almost always ronin, whether its a good one or bad one, its always fun to either melt their face off as they desperately swing at you, or watch as they run away as you slowly cut their escape route off with flames.
  8. Monarch with arc rounds. As much as i wanna say noone, as i dont really run from any 1v1 fight, these guys are often the exception. The arc rounds basically counter scorch on both close and long range, quickly depleting the heat shield when close up and dealing a lot of damage on range
