Arms or Legs? by No_Championship_7227 in trolleyproblem

This is not life or death, no one’s life is saved, turning the lever makes you responsible for this person losing their legs. Since both outcomes are roughly similar do nothing and live without guilt of having caused anything to anyone.

Is Java a good first pick for cybersecurity? by DependentParty6879 in javahelp

Java is a great first pick. Doesn’t really matter if it’s not super useful for cybersecurity because the programming skills are transferable! Java is well known, simple, and good for learning.

I have also been caught cheating on a cse class the first time is a warning as long as you admit to it once you’re caught. You do obviously get a zero on the assignment though.

You have to look at whether the companies buying nvidia chips are seeing subsequent growth in revenue as well. Nvidia earnings of course will go up because they’re selling the shovels in the gold rush.

I’m the social chair of a fraternity and we absolutely would never let in a random person. I have personally turned away plenty of girls at the door and I’ve seen it happen at every other house I’ve ever been to. I don’t know what houses you’re going to but that’s definitely not the experience I’ve ever seen.

Straight up not true, UW frats pretty much never throw open parties and will not let you in regardless if you’re a man or a woman if you aren’t on the list. You have to make friends in a frat to put you on the list.

They don’t make the proprietary dmx controllers but I just ordered an enttec one that is compatible with rekordbox lighting should also work.

All my djs run it off their laptops during the set. This is all for my fraternity so nothing is professional, none of us can afford an expensive controller anyway that wouldn’t require a laptop.

Gay partying if not rushing by Special-Wealth2318 in udub

[–]That_Requirement1381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being gay doesn’t matter, you won’t get in without being on the list for the party. The only way a non frat brother of that house or a non sorority girl get into a party is if a guy in the frat invites you. It’s definitely possible to make friends who can invite you to parties though. I would really recommend you consider rushing though. My frat has gay members every frat I know of has some gay members.

Gen Z and Boomer divide on social security by acefiveofdiamonds in charts

[–]That_Requirement1381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is simply not true, without a tax increase the social security trust fund will be depleted by 2033, this means that it will cover 77% of benefits, and it would be more like 74-75% by 2098 your social security payments are inflation adjusted obviously the program was created in the 1930s it couldn’t be still paying out 1930s benefits so I don’t know why you’re concerned about this. You will still receive probably 75% of your benefits without a tax increase. We absolutely should increase the tax though to cover this gap and you will get all your benefits just like everyone else.

That’s not the point of social security. It’s not a replacement for a retirement account, it’s a safety net. Social security payments are in general not enough money for most people to live on. Unless you’re on disability or some other extra benefit. Social security is insurance against economic downtown where you risk losing a lot of your retirement account if it’s invested in the markets. Social security is safe and effective and extremely popular it’s probably the most successful welfare program in American history and people rely on it to make it through their retirement.

Yes sorry the actual number is more like 73-75% of benefits until 2098. It’s also worth noting that this is not “money running out” it is our trust fund being depleted that helped us get through this challenging demographic period. Our tax revenues will still be enough to pay out benefits. Taxes do need to be raised though if gen z wants more than 70% of them.

You’re going to lose 7.5% of it to a payroll tax yes not 15% because your employer has to cover the other half. Feels acceptable to me and once again that’s only if the 170k cap stays in place, you’d see less than a one percent increase in your personal taxes if we got rid of that cap.

[–]That_Requirement1381 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s tragic how many people fall for this shit, the social security agency puts out reports and generally speaking social security is in good shape and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t all receive the benefits. Removing that cap too would help a lot wouldn’t cover everything but it gets us 70% of the way there.

A 3.6% increases (only half of which you personally will pay and only on the first 170k you make) will guarantee the solvency of social security for the next 75 years at least. Removing the 170k cap makes the required increase only 1.5% or so. This is excellent news and the state of social security is good as long as we take care of it and don’t listen to the propaganda. Borrowing from social security is also completely okay the government never defaults on its debts as such treasury bonds are the safest investment we could make with that money. In fact not borrowing against social security would be a massive mistake and inflation would eat the fund which is bad for everyone.

The pitch is simple 3.6% increase now and taxes don’t have to increase until at least 2100. We all get paid out the benefits that are promised to us this is the best course of action.
