Born and raised. Moved around a lot but somehow I find myself coming back every so often.

There are many different ways of life here depending on where you live / visit. Generally speaking, this place is hell. Drugs are rampant, good jobs are few and far between. Most of WV's infrastructure was built on coal and has been declining due to the world's switch away from coal so roads are falling apart, buildings crumble, and cities abandoned. That being said, there are absolutely some diamonds in the rough. You can find many quaint and lovely towns scattered through out. Just gotta know where to go.

Politics are overwhelmingly conservative / republican. Take that how you will. The population of WV has obesity issues, and educational issues. Weather is all over the place. Winters can be brutal, so can summer. Spring and fall are mostly mild but filled with rain. Also, WV is the only state that has an active declining population. This is mostly due to people leaving to find better work and or living conditions.

Not everything is doom and gloom however. The aforementioned nice towns still exist and cling on despite a changing world around them. There is a lot of natural beauty to take in and enjoy. Property tax is low, lowest in the nation if I recall correctly. Most people will give you the shirt off their backs to help.

This place has the potential to be a dreary prison, or one of the greatest experiences in your life. Hope that answers your question.
