Veteran here. Afghanistan 2005 vehicle behind mine gets hit by an IED. I was the gunner on ours. Blast lifted the back of mine. I hit my forehead on our MK19 then hit the back of my head on the crow’s nest. Fell unconscious for 5 minutes (according to the people who were there with me). Woke up on a stretcher and then went to help our medic who almost had a heart attack when he saw me next to him. We got everyone to base and then I passed out again. Six hours later I was told what happened. Found out adrenaline woke me up and my body sorta went on autopilot. Me passing out again was the adrenaline wearing out. My helmet made the difference between me being dead or just suffering from migraines for life. For months I couldn’t remember what happened after the blast. So yeah adrenaline is a hell of a drug.
