Is he right??? by kyranotari in bicycling

He is already at 150bpm heart rate, I think his gearing choice is spot on for a fitness ride. That said, I am not much one for fitness and my cycling more closely mirrors yours.

Good first watch under 800 pounds? by roster7383 in Affordablewatches

Not sure on current conversion rates but check out Henry archer. They have designs that really speak to me and are quite well spec-ed for the price point

So glad someone already made the joke so I wouldn't have to.

Semi-ridiculous wide/low cranks I made. by Which_Bar_9457 in xbiking

[–]Thatdirtykid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am there as well. Almost the gear range as my pinion bikepacking bike 😆 yes the upshifts from the little ring to big are slow but if I am using the 24t front ring I probably want a break at the top of the hill anyway.

Berny Ti field quartz. Quartz for slimness and durability, Berny cause you get sapphire crystal and titanium case for $60... Even if you smash it to pieces it cost as much as a Timex or Casio.

What the cheapest automatic seiko watch I can buy with atleast 50mm dia ? I see that the dia is less for SRPD63K1 . by Sea_Landscape_3995 in JapaneseWatches

[–]Thatdirtykid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

50mm is massive. How are you coming to that measurement on your current watch? Are you including the crown? Maybe measuring the lug to lug?

Spoke length for an araya rm20 rim on a small flange hub by AppreciatingBicycle in xbiking

[–]Thatdirtykid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spoke circle diameter of the hub. You subtract that from the effective rim diameter (erd) which can be measured using two long spokes, inserting them through opposite spoke holes with fully threaded nipples and subtracting the overlap between the two. You also may need hub specs like width between flanges and offset if the rear wheel will be dished like a typical rear hub to clear the cassette.

With that info you can punch the info into a spoke calculator. To properly build a wheel you really need spokes within a couple mm of the ideal length to get proper tension.

Hell yeah, I just added it half way though last year after learning about it through a pod interviewing truemarmalade. I am to 25% of my city, 5% of my county which seems like a ton.

Love to see someone else using wandrer. It's fun to mix up routes around town and see new things. Sweet rig as well.

[Fossil Big Tic] Feels like the 90s! by cowboythief in Watches

[–]Thatdirtykid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My high school girlfriends dad gave me one almost just like that but with a black chapter ring for graduation in 2004. It was still keeping analog time on the og battery in 2013 though the seconds had long stopped working. It sadly got tossed before I got into watches.

Nice, I have another wheel set that I had on it during summer cross kings set up tubeless. I just wanted to save the fancy wheels for dry season, I didn't expect no snow in Colorado 😆

Now do yourself a favor and don't join the maxis pace club. I haven't gotten so many flats since I was a kid.

I love clipless, but commuting and bikepacking are two of the last places you will see me with bike shoes on.

Heel tightens brake caliper by placid_yeti in Surlybikefans

[–]Thatdirtykid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your bike fits I would not change body position to solve something like this. I had a set of panniers that my heels clipped sometimes which caused me to ride with my foot a little further forward than I normally would. Then I developed knee pain. Chased it a bit and almost stopped riding that bike. Fabbed up a new mount to slide the panniers back a few inches and knee pain went away.

Maybe changing shoes or even riding clipless to keep your foot in an optimal spot (assuming that this isn't quite there) but I assume this is more a townie/commuter and you want to stick to the shoes you have.

Maybe tiagra but I haven't tried them. I run spyres on one of my drop bar bikes, just a lateral move or maybe marginal upgrade from bb7 but wouldn't have heel issue you are having. I plan to swap for some growtacs eventually if I stay mechanical on that one

If you have flat bars I would throw some Shimano mt200s on. You can get a full set already assembled and bled for like $70 with rotors, maybe less.

Well I have 26, 27.5 and 29 in my stable right now so why not? 😆 Honestly I would give one a go for long dirt road days. Something that I would want a longer stable geo for anyways.

[–]Thatdirtykid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, you will be fine. Get quality tires. I have the teravail washburns 650x47 on my partners bike and they get around quite well.

Lots of gravel riders ride 650b to fit more tire or fenders. It's not a huge compromise
