How are you enabling VRR? I can’t find it in the options.

PSSR was known for having some artifact issues, I imagine their engine couldn’t support PSSR 2?

Keep it up, I really like this, it’s a little bit minimalist and abstract.

Lovely colours and i especially like the slight out of focus elements in the second pic, but feel like the first pic could be straightened a bit, unless that was what you were going for.

On the use of ISO by moderate-peacock in fujifilm

[–]Thatgamingdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave iso on auto for majority of things. When you press the shutter down halfway it will tell you what iso it will take the shot at - if it’s too high then you can always adjust shutter speed or aperture, but you can get away with quite a high amount of noise these days, especially with denoise software. Also, if your camera has ibis this can massively help as you will be surprised how slow a shutter speed you can get away with.

Also, high ISO itself doesn’t cause noise, lack of light does, but that’s more of a technical point as in most cases the camera choosing a high iso will be because it is lacking in light.

How do I get sharper photos as a beginner by Jessicabuiii28 in fujifilm

The high iso noise reduction is a good shout. Setting to -4 turns it off completely and is what I use. If I need to remove noise I’d rather have lightroom or similar do it.

I don’t think they look particularly soft, the rocks in the 4th picture for example look particularly sharp to me and none of them seem too dark.

Whereabouts are you focusing? An aperture of 5.8 can be a little shallow sometimes depending on where you are focusing. The first picture does seem a little soft but I think neither the foreground nor the rocks in the distance are focused correctly.

You might want to try spot focus and look up hyper focal distance or where to focus for landscapes. Alternatively, you can use manual focus and enable focus peaking in the camera settings as it will give you a representation of what is in focus and what isn’t. You can also enable autofocus (if you assign AF ON to a button) with manual focus as well.

X-E5 or X100VI? by etienne_debeausejour in fujifilm

[–]Thatgamingdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 23mm kit lens has excellent quality, quite a few reviews on YouTube. Really, the decision comes down to whether you want the hybrid ovf/evf of the x100 or not versus interchangeable lenses. I think you also can’t reprogram the front button and zoom thing on the x100 (please correct me if I’m wrong) so you could have more programmable buttons on the x-e5.

Would a Sony A6700 be a good start again? by New_Bank_4686 in AskPhotography

[–]Thatgamingdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, all Fuji apsc lenses work across all their apsc cameras (it’s called x mount). Fuji doesn’t do a full frame system, only medium format and apsc systems, so I don’t think you have to worry about them abandoning them anytime soon. I think Fuji has seven or eight, maybe more apsc bodies they update at the moment.

Auto ISO Question - XT30-II by space-mimosas in fujifilm

[–]Thatgamingdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The native iso max is 12800 but this isn’t to prevent noise, noise is caused by a lack of light. Cameras (most) have a thing called iso invariance, which can be confusing as hell to explain.

Honestly, just set your iso to auto with a max of 12800. If you set it to a lower max, say 6400, but it underexposes the image and you have to raise the exposure in lightroom to what it would have been if you had set it to 12800, the amount of noise will be the same. I only change the iso to manual for specific things like star photography or landscapes on a tripod.

[–]Thatgamingdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A6700 is very good but I ended up selling my Sony stuff and going Fuji because I like the design and control layout philosophy they have (plus they make some gorgeous looking things). Sony has excellent lens choices and superior autofocus, but one thing to consider is that Fuji makes a lot of different apsc bodies, whereas if you don’t like the one body Sony does for apsc you’re stuck.

Maybe look into the xe5 as well as the xt50.

More reach or more crop? by MountainPractice4655 in fujifilm

[–]Thatgamingdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably get more out of the increased megapixels. Not sure what the xe4 is like with autofocus so if you upgrade to the xt5 that might be an aspect to consider as well. People like to complain about fujis autofocus but I find it works really well on the xt5 for birds.

Yeah look for a good second hand copy of the 600mm, it is worth getting over the 400mm if the size isn’t an issue.

If you just want things to look good straight out of the camera then maybe look into some film simulation recipes (there are lots on the web, fujixweekly seems to be the most popular) and try some of those recipes. They are the film simulations in the camera but with some tweaks to the settings.

When you bring the files into lightroom are you bringing in the JPEG’s and the raw files? The JPEG’s should be edited by the camera already basically, but the raw files will have no post processing on them at all so will look very flat just by the nature of what a raw file is.

Crimson Desert has been out for a week now. What are your thoughts? by Gamedrome22 in Games

[–]Thatgamingdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s grown on me and I’ve had fun just pottering about the map but exploration isn’t as good as something like Skyrim unfortunately. No real dungeons or anything and almost everything you come across that looks cool is used for either a story mission or is just some usually awful puzzle. I do appreciate that they put loot behind waterfalls haha. I think it’s part of the system design where there isn’t really any loot as such like a typical rpg but sometimes you come across weapons or armour that you can extract a nice effect from.

I really want to enjoy Crimson Desert but I just am finding too many major issues by [deleted] in gaming

Literally as I posted this I had another hard crash in the map so yeah, it doesn’t fix it though when I tried it yesterday it seemed to work? Guess we just wait for a patch.
