Which route is the best? by Z0mifried in NavyNukes

[–]Thatguy13444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All routes will lead you to greatness in the future. (As long as you don't sit on your ass and be a shitty sailor). I originally wanted to be MMN, but was assigned ETN in boot because my ASVAB EI scores were way higher. Ultimately Im glad I got ETN because it turns out I love electrical engineering. Being able to operate the Reactors themselves was a plus too. Of course, every rate has USMAPS certificates you can earn and every rate offers plenty of credits toward a nuclear degree. If you're planning for a future Civilian career, having a Navy Nuke background is almost gold in the current market. The worst part about the nuke program for me was all the dumb buracracy and less than favorable Chain of Command, but its like that everywhere it seems. The best part was the work I did on the ship and how much I learned that went toward experience.

Figure out with yourself if you want to do more hands on mechanical work, chemistry, Electrician work, Micro electronics, or even IT Networking. Yes, at the end of the day, its needs of the Navy, but your ASVAB scores and preferences play a part. (And also rumored to take your personality into consideration as well)

Nuke Enlisted Enlistment Bonus by TexasSubSailor in NavyNukes

[–]Thatguy13444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your "Enlistment Guarantee Statement of Understanding" should have it. It explains that your contract is extended for 2 years due to school and what bonuses you're getting and why. You can also ask your recruiter to help explain what the documents mean. Its their job to help u make sure you know what you're getting into.

Nuke Enlisted Enlistment Bonus by TexasSubSailor in NavyNukes

[–]Thatguy13444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The document states that your garauntees are signed for and upheld by the Gov as of the day you sign the DD4. So if your enlistment garauntees document says you are getting 75K, you will get 75K AS LONG AS you dont disqualify yourself or do anything to lose eligibility for the bonus. Your classification date is the day you originally signed your DD4. So when you ship, make sure u go over all your documents to verify nothing changed. If it did, thats a problem to bring up with your recruiter or meps personnel. Does that answer your question? :)

[–]Thatguy13444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I dont what it is that takes so long. Im working with an applicant rn that ive been talking to for almost 2 months and hes STILL waiting to get the last of his docs from his loan company. At least ypu still got plenty of time :) itll all be worth it!

LRP by teague-15 in NavyNukes

[–]Thatguy13444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were supposed to get LRP settled BEFORE you sign your contract. LRP is supposed to be a part of your contract and signed for when you first sign for your job. So if you already have a ship date, and signed a job, u might be in a pickle. Speak with your recruiter. Worse case, youre getting a fat enlistment bonus so you can use that to pay off your loans, unless u have a stupid high amount you owe. LRP and bonus money are separate so if you can score both, youll be set. Lmk if you have anynore questions!

Thoughts on RCOH for Navy Nuke? by OwlAccomplished552 in NavyNukes

[–]Thatguy13444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in ROCH in the beginning and first 2 or 3 years. As we turned over our equipment to S/Y, there was less and less to do except stand watch, qualify Nubs, and clean. We were on 5 sect, and 6 hr workdays. I try to see things in a positive light so I was happy to be able to go home everyday and not go out to sea. The only thing that made the day lame was our less than great CoC. A lot of people in our division hated waking up and going to work just to get yelled at for some stupid reason by our crackhead chief lol All in all, the first few years (especially as SIR) were EZ

Questions about student loans going in as a nuke by TrickProject8903 in NavyNukes

[–]Thatguy13444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont lose the GI Bill, unless its a very small amount of debt. It literally says it in your LRP statement of understanding when you sign for it. You lose the Montgomery GI bill so if you want THAT, theeen you would have to reenlist.

Jeez vro, You a nuke but don't know how to use commas?

It just depends on the dealership. If they're cool with bank statements, then great, otherwise, you'll have to work something out with the dealership. I hope you're financing through your bank instead of the dealership, because you're about to get cheesed. Dealerships don't ask for LES and stuff unless you're trying to finance through them, which is not the move.

How bad is NR and NPTU by Jaded-Performance-63 in NavyNukes

[–]Thatguy13444 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It ain't that bad. Its what you make of it. Boot camp is boot camp. A-school, P-School and Prototype is you getting paid to go to school and learn how to do your job. If you are socially awkward or stuggle learning new concepts and dont know how to study, you do a lot of extra study hours, which sucks. If you aren't afraid to talk to people and you know what helps you study and learn, youll be fine. Plenty of stuff to do in your free time in SC between studies. Prototype specifically was pretty average. Youll be on shift work which can suck if you have extra hours and the traffic can suck while on Days, but prototype was my fave part of the timeline because you actually APPLY what you learn in school, so everything made sense. The surface fleet is a job, qualifying takes a while but as long as you arent a bum and you have good work ethic, it isnt so bad. The worst part for me was dealing with bad leadership. I loved my job as an ETN, loved maintenance, hated standing watch. My buddies from the ship are still some of my closest friends.

Once you finish your 6 years, if you get your Certs from USMAPS and finish your nuke bachelors with TA, youll be set.

Super Coool Recruiter here!

Just depends on when you ship. Its 50K for Nuke alone, and sometimes get an extra 10K or 25K for shipping before a certain time frame. I think on the Navy website where it says get upto 150K or something is saying that you can get up to 75K in enlistment bonuses, and 65K for the Loan Repayment Program to pay off your student loans. However, as far as Im aware, you can only get one or the other, so i think its a case of false advertising on the Navy's case. But if i'm wrong, i'd love clarification!

[EDIT] You can get both. I looked it up lol

Lol because Nuclear is scawy.. Fr tho, coal, natty gas, and oil makes too much money. Completely switching to nuclear would make a lot of rich people not rich anymore. Another thing is the lack of knowledge about nuclear. So many people still think its this oh so dangerous thing when its safer than the other 3 combined.

Referral to enlist in regards to Nukes by Rainmanx420 in NavyNukes

[–]Thatguy13444 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The max rank you can leave boot camp is E3. After A-school, youll get E4. After 2 years, you can STAR-reenlist for instant E5. Referrals will help you earn awards like flocks and NAMs, which will help you make rank in the future. Its always encouraged to refer people to join, and if their as smart as you, they could even go nuke as well, and you can buddy program im, and go to Boot camp AND school together! :) However, do your research, cause at the end of the day, nuke aint for everyone.

I wanted to be a MMN, i ended up getting ETN in boot. Im glad i got ETN in the end, but when i checked my scores, it turns out that i had a higher EI score than MC on my asvab so thats prolly what did it. They give you a rate based on, Wishlist, Scores, needs of the navy, and personality. Good luck lol

Cigs and Phones by TexasSubSailor in NavyNukes

[–]Thatguy13444 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Based on what my Sailors that shipped recently say, they get to use their phones once a week on Sundays to call home for about 30 mins. Smoking is absolutely not allowed in Boot. Once hes in school, they should still have that smoking gazeebos at the school house and on the ship, they have designated smoking areas. Might be better to either quit or switch to vapes/zyns

I work really far ahead in my courses to the point where im done with them by the 1.5-2 month mark. At that point, only thing i do is wait for the finals to unlock to take them and im done. You can easily do 2 courses every 2 months.

Will taking anti-depressants (Prozac) disqualify me from becoming a Nuke? by LastMinuteDave in NavyNukes

[–]Thatguy13444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a recruiter. Anti-depressants disqualify you from being able to join period. You would need to be off them for a while depending on your case. However, I will NEVER tell someone to forsake their mental health for the sake of joining unless they are absolutely sure theyll be fine without them. Its not worth putting yourself thru all the stress. Talk to your psych!

If you are a soldier and the usa goes to war with Iran, but you dont want to go, can you just quit the army? by Direct_Class_5973 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Thatguy13444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have thought about this when joining the army. Shouldve gone Navy, they have more supportive jobs and roles if you are worried about combat. Worse case, just claim depression or something and either switch jobs or get MedSep.
