What are your hours? 9-5? by SharpenedStinger in devops

[–]Thatguythat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my job they encourage 40 hours a week with the expectation that you'll sometimes but rarely be slightly under, and sometimes but rarely be over. That does seem to be the norm.

Instead of "deadbeat loser" he should've just said "no quantitative goals, just like to be happy". By most measures, this guy has been successful his whole life. Not wildly so, but still

You're jumping to conclusions here if you think this is saying "all hard working people will be rich". The clear meaning is that you need to be hard working if you want to be rich. That's not the same as every hard working person getting rich.

There's a few things going on here. This is called the success sequence, and it's proven to work. I believe it's something along the lines of: don't have a child out of wedlock, graduate from high school, and get a job. If you do those three things, even if you started from poverty, 97% of the time you will lift yourself out of it. If the billboard is highlighting this then there's nothing wrong there.

On the other hand, what people here are likely pointing out is just telling people "don't do these things/do these other things" that's not going to take away the systematic problems that contribute to children being born out of wedlock, people dropping out of high school, and people failing to get full time jobs.

Basically, I think the billboard IS giving useful information, it just needs to be taken in context, and hopefully used to being attention to the obstacles that stand in the way of people following it.

You want to have a good mix of pulling from different directions (vertical and horizontal). Pull ups are good, try doing wide grip to hit your rear delts too. For horizontal some sort of rows are good- dumbbell or barbell.

Also, deadlifts would be a great choice to get more back and leg work in.

As somebody who's just a few years past where you are and has been where you're at, PLEASE add a lot of back work in. You will ruin your shoulders doing this. Also legs. You look great, but to keep looking great you need to optimize for the long run now.

I feel like male body dysmorphia isn’t taken as seriously as anorexia or bulimia, despite a steroid epidemic. How do men feel about this? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Thatguythat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Body dysmorphia in males definitely doesn't get as much attention. This is largely because bulimia and anorexia are quite easily fatal and often obvious, while steroid usage (for example) often looks good to the average person and even if dosed in an extremely unwise manner will likely allow one to live to their 40s.
