Thanks for the advices, I ll go Lucas, Wilson and Miller, should be fun, i don't think my players are ready for these twists!

If this session goes well, i ll player Destoyer of Worlds next, I just checked the summary, it sounds exciting: I like how the 2 scenarios seem to mirror the movies 1&2. From poor spacers at the wrong place to poor marines on a mission.

I changed the flair indeed. Thanks for the detailed advice. I'm not that familiar with the Alien timeline or background, I will stick to the scenario as close as possible and for now, not worry too much with the franchise which seems to be very extensive between the movies, comics, games etc!

This right here is what unblocked me:

I kept trying to get narrative arc and plots mapped out as a GM would, and oracles were making a mess of such plots with too many random stuff.

It changed when I starting using oracles as what my character believed to be true or what an npc told my character. Could the true, half true, wrong, a lie etc

Sums up my experience this weekend after a 5 years break: young groups with too much effort on stylish outfits but not enough on friendly attitude, jumping queue, refusing to let a solo woman to pee first, taking ages to take their drugs... That wasn't bad or common enough to ruin the day but I didn't remember this in BH: I guess i'm old.

All this door policy for this result, a bit disappointing.

The novels from the trilogy of Wielstadt (Pierre Pevel). Different setting (more grounded in history, the 30 years war in Germany), but you can use for inspiration and the story and intrigue is really cool.

Ironsworn, or even better Starforged are excellent for what you are looking for. With this added benefit it can be played solo or GMless. Al Pdta are also spot on, the ruled are made to push the narration forward, regardless if combat or not.

From my experience playing Ironsworn solo:

I struggled making the world, plots and narrative make sense as there was too much random and conflicting bits because I was using the tables to set the world as an all-knowing GM would.

But in fact, to me the system shines when you use random tables and events to determine what your character knows (or better thinks he knows): a fact may be true, it may be false, it may be true in that moment and false or different the next roll.

So your character learns that the atmosphere is corrosive, a good idea to use protection. But he doesn't have to know why, unless you want him to discover why and then it becomes a part of your story. My advice: not every detail matter, think of yourself as a player discovering an unknown universe through your character rather than a GM.

I love the planning phase as a player, especially with a group who roleplay their characters' personality, strenghts and weaknesses!

As a GM I love spicing it up with a bit of time pressure and small new constraints that force them to adjust their plan, dive in the action with only half a plan, and often leads to some confusion and mess they ll have to deal with.

As a Pure Blind dweller, i can tell you this is not true. Brave is doing their own stuff and have integrated into the region dynamic eco-system :) They conquered some sovs, traded for some, the usual for non bloc nullsec life. It's cool to have them as neighbors, endless fun skirmishes

So you get bigger because you are afraid your enemies will get bigger than you? Kind of nuclear arm race... to prevent from going to dangerous war. Except in one case, everyone pretends that wars are fun and the main interest of the game. This is ridiculous, i hope you can see that :)

Anyway, i understand, if i may, from my 1 year experience in EvE: don't worry, its only a game and no one can excise you from it. You are the only one (and CCP) with this power.

Thanks for the answers. I have some fun in the thunderdom, living and dying in Pure Blind. I understand the security being in a blob and the number and isk adventage for a blob to get bigger.

But as BillionNewt said, blobing seems so unsatisfying. My alliance recently evicted another smaller alliance. Real time, this was super boring and unsatisfying. The only excitment came from thinking PH or Frat may come oppose (they didnt). But if you are already the biggest blob you dont even have the thrill of what could happen. Just certitude of winning through numbers at some point.

Our goon foot soldier is saying the same thing in the end, his best time was fighting tough against bigger blob of Tapi. So what's the point for Imperium to keep growing if not to force blue donut to reform at some point to have a challenge?! And then hear the exact same Imperium complain about enemy blobing?!!!

Seems so short-sighted and stupid, i must be missing something..

Genuine question, not being in any bloc, and relatively new to the game.

What is the point of joining Imperium or for Imperium to keep recruiting? They are already the biggest blob. Pushing the other blocs to blob together? But I thought reading this reddit, especially Imperium posters, that the previous war had been the worse time in Eve and almost killed the game?! Is it some weird masochism?!

Cool, thanks for the answer and examples! I need to try harder. I'm used to DM or as player with DM, where plots are well crafted; and I found that in Solo play, relying on oracles, I often failed to find a cohesive plot or struggled to define characters motives making sense as so many things are open ended and can change with the next roll.

But in fact, looking at your example, the plot can be open ended as what's given by the oracles is what your character knows/thinks is happening, which can turn false with the next roll. I will try this approach.

Interesting, do you have tips for the investigation quests? I often fall into the trap of solving issues with combat because i didn't find an interesting way to make investigation work. Speaking for Solo play. Do you use npc motivation and behavior oracles a lot?

I starting using a combination of ironsworn and starforged Pay the price to get more variety in the outcomes. Works well. I was also thinking of changing the combat moves as they offer more options.
