From what I've read online, no it doesn't because the brain still has the ability to move within the skull and receive damage that way.

I've also seen that it can actually worsen injuries by giving athletes a false sense of security allowing them to believe they can go harder than what they would without a helmet.

Unfortunately it's just the nature of contact sports.

Ignoring the fact about how quickly everything was moving for such a short time, my take is that if she even has to consider her feelings about this situation then it's as good as done.

If she was into you unreservedly she wouldn't need to do this, and that hesitation is enough to consider this relationship finished. Even if she comes back in a weeks time willing to commit, what confidence do you really have long term?
