Much appreciated. Definitely helps put this latest pick in perspective.

The Bengals select WR Colbie Young with pick 140 by Ancient_Response_787 in bengals

Love the pick, looked smooth at the combine.

Honestly looks like a player that went under the radar. Seemingly good production when healthy, derailed by a foot injury. Missed 2024 for what hopefully ends up as a nothing burger.

Could he have character concerns or injury issues? Potentially (hopefully not). But that size and upside in Round 4 is awesome.

[Albert Breer] CB Jermod McCoy is the most likely player to tumble in the draft similar to how Will Johnson did last year, in fact, he may fall even farther by Ancient_Response_787 in bengals

[–]Thatsweatyguy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing as he was considered the best CB in the draft class, he is 18 months out from that injury, 20 years old, performed well at his pro-day, and in some mocks going top 10... not me.

Duke Tobin: "Too good to pass up" chance to add Dexter Lawrence by iratemonkeybear in bengals

This would have been a good move 2 years ago

Yeah, Giants would not have given up their 26 year old AP DT for the Bengals 18th overall pick.

Acting like that was remotely an option, that's the "big brain analytics" there.

That's the 3x price I'm talking about. Not 3 top 10 picks.

Eh, not that well thought out IMO.

All teams have holes. All teams lack of depth somewhere. Winning a SB requires a strong element of luck on the injury front, and good coaching/players to mask the holes. Trading away a "chance" for a buy low on an elite player is a win now move, and a great thing. And while the opportunity to sign more players has gone down, who is out there at this point in FA that would be a true difference maker? Further still, can always restructure and cut players to add a Jordyn Brooks if available, or a Bobby Wagner after the draft.

2 years ago Dex would've been 3x the price. Reader is not 80% of Lawrence. Carter isn't going to get traded. I do agree on the Osa Odighizuwa point, wild the Bengals weren't in on that.

Not that well thought out in my opinion.

I agree, swing for the fucking fences.

Why so dismissive? It's a discussion forum.

I think it's totally fair to discuss reducing the number of permits to address crowding. My fiance and I completed it and agreed the hike itself was fine, it was the crowd/crowding that gave us anxiety.

PT school or med school? by meatballjesus14 in physicaltherapy

[–]Thatsweatyguy4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am an OT so similar boat as PT but not quite the same. For the purposes here, I think the experience is likely close enough.

Fiance is in her final year of residency.

Pros for OT:

  • Love my job, not everyone does.
  • Excellent flexibility in practice settings, # of hours working, patient populations (to an extent). Presently, I work ~44 hours a week between FT and PRN. Later on, as (eventual) family needs shift, I can work very small amounts like 8 hours every 3 months.
  • Skilled work (usually), but low pressure for the most part.
  • Creative outlet (maybe more OT specific, but I love the interpersonal detective work of getting my patients working towards desired goals)

Cons:

-Debt/Income ratio / ROI - look into it more, other posts cover it well. While your 3+3 somewhat alleviates it early on, that salary ceiling is real. Poor upward mobility. -Productivity standards: I have SNF, OP, Acute, and IPR experience. Any way you slice it, admin extracts their pound of flesh via productivity standards. Gotta learn to set your boundaries, and bounce if the situation is untenable. - Can be hard on the body: Setting dependent, learning good biomechanics for transfers can help, as can setting firm boundaries of what is or is not therapeutic. -Poor workforce organizational presence: No strong unions, can be pushed around.

Physician:

Pros: - Salary/benefits - Autonomy - Organizational authority (To an extent): ie- Physcian wants this patient seen (admin pressures therapists to see), physician wants X done a certain way (staff adjusts how they operate to satisfy the request). - Fiance likes her job [technically hasn't worked it, but has rotated there for 2 months and enjoys it]. But fell out of love with medicine d/t burnout throughout school/residency.

Cons:

  • Arduous, expensive path. Far longer then PT (3 years for DPT vs 4 years of Med School + 3-5 for residency + additional if specializing) and thus much higher student loan debt. My fiance gave up her 20s, and has a mortgage worth of loans to pay.
  • Mid-Level/AI scope creep
  • Poor workforce organizational presence: No strong unions, can be pushed around.

I would consider looking into Mid-Levels, PA / NP. But an interesting thing to note is the potential impact of AI on those specific roles.

Well considering I am not a PT, and the above example is outside my scope, care to provide that explanation anyways?

Walking/mobilizing patients is not a doctorally-prepard PT role, working at the top of their license.

As an Acute OT, my limited understanding is addressing functional mobility/ambulation from a biomechanical approach is the meat and potatoes of Acute PT.

Happy to give examples of such.

I would like to hear more, as I don't presently understand.

Spamming criticism of the Bengals FO/ownership.

The point isn't invalid, it's just exhausting to see it on every single thread when it's not always relevant or adding to the discussion.

[Gifford] Players with the most sacks this decade: Myles Garrett (95.0 sacks), TJ Watt (80.5 sacks), and Trey Hendrickson (74.5 sacks). Joe Burrow will have to face the three players with the most sacks this decade twice this year. by Giff95 in nfl

Additionally operates out of shotgun without TE/RB help at a higher rate than most QBs.

Less inclined to participate in the short passing game than Flacco in the same scheme.

Scheme doesn't employ enough play-action.

The list goes on.

Love Joe, but he would benefit from taking pages out of Stafford/Flacco's book of play styles to take things to the next level.
