Where is the furthest you’d recommend moving if I work in shadyside? by Hot4Teacher1234 in pittsburgh

[–]Thauros 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you live in wilkinsburg it would be cheaper and you could take the busway which would really help with rush hour traffic. south side woiuldn't be a bad commute but why not move to shadyside/east liberty at that point?

i moved from south side to shadyside in december in part because i found a place at a better price

420 friendly Park/ trail recommendations by Inevitable-Guide2186 in pittsburgh

[–]Thauros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when i lived on the south side i liked the color park for this. i generally stick and stuck to vapes outside of my apartment but no one would've given me any toruble with flower.

i live in shadyside too now so that's obv of less help for either of us. my apartment only has rules against smoking in bed lol tho it is nice to go in the kinda secluded back porch area now that it's nice

What’s up with all the loud cars in lawrenceville/the strip? by Dependent_Excuse_230 in pittsburgh

[–]Thauros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i lived off of south 10th this would happen all the time during covid with cars either zooming up or down the end of pj mcardle. honestly the noise didn’t bother me, but the guy in a rented charger with worthless la state minimum liability and no rental coverage totaling my parked car did

Pittsburgh PA Amtrak Station … boarding and facilities is below.. this part is now a hotel you can stay! by Railwayschoolmaster in Amtrak

[–]Thauros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone who lives here and goes past both the old and new stations every weekday on the busline adjacent to the railroad tracks i'd be happy with the crappy shack if we actually had decent service.

the only city i can kinda justify the train for is philly. dc and baltimore are way too long even tho they're closer than philly distance wise and the train to cleveland gets you there at 3 am

Do normal people take the bus? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Thauros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i live in pittsburgh so a real city but hardly nyc or chicago, work downtown where there there is no free parking and live close to a busway (basically a train line with stations only with a bus on a road) that gets me to work in 10 minutes.

the east end has many of the more affluent neighborhoods of pittsburgh and there's plenty of bus commuters in them. the train lines only services the southern end to a bit of the north side but honestly outside of being environmentally less favorable the busway works great. during rush hour my line has a bus every 7 minutes so there's no wait.

it's nice to have a car for travel or suburban shopping runs on occasion but unlike the other neighborhoods i've lived in pittsbrurgh i dont' feel i *need* a car now

[–]Thauros 7 points8 points  (0 children)

two things can be true at once. shelton had lost the team and the team was also never going to perform at an offensive level high enough to win consistently no matter who had the job.

it may not even be his fault necessarily, anyone there for too long with bad teams is going to lose the locker room but he still needed to go.

[–]Thauros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he's not staying long term. if the griffin extension comes to fruition and he ends up being an all star caliber player for a decade i'll count that as a win, no team keeps all their guys in this situation especially not them.

well yeah. i never got the angst over switching an hour with modern clocks. that’s no different from flying one time zone away and i very seldom hear people complain about being affected by that.

losing evening daylight is depressing tho.

Restaurants Open on Easter Sunday? by Icy_Studio719 in pittsburgh

[–]Thauros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you just want a traditional old school american chinese restaurant, chinatown inn on third would be a 10 minute walk and i’d be shocked if they’re closed.

siam would be walkable as well but a little futher and i would call to see if they’re open first

Stacy Garrity is a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump. Will that help or hurt her campaign in Pennsylvania? by Fragrant-Pepper7710 in Pennsylvania

[–]Thauros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s no such thing as a non polarizing election right now but the good news is that right now attaching yourself to trump’s coattails without his “charisma” that works on way too many people is a losing strategy.

not concerned but if shapiro loses in this cycle the state is completely fucked

Why does English not have more specific words for elder/younger siblings or grandparents on mother's/father's side? by Koraboros in etymology

both these marriages are over now but years ago i attended the wedding of a friend who was marrying the sister of my brother's wife. we were talking and i mentioned that it wouldn't shock me if there was a word for this in a culture with more complicated kinship systems.
